Dynasty Football Buy Low/Sell High Week 5
Weird season so far, huh? The majority of the top running backs have either failed to produce or have been injured, the quarterback position as a whole has struggled, and the tight end position continues to be the wasteland it’s always been. As far as dynasty fantasy football is concerned, the first few weeks of the season are likely making you feel antsy about how to approach trades and roster moves.
My advice: just breathe, step back, and let’s look at how we can capitalize on what’s transpired.
Weekly, I’m going to focus on some buy-low and sell-high players to help you reach your dynasty goals. With that being said, let’s get into it.
Quick Links
Buy-Low Trade Targets
Jonathan Taylor – RB, Indianapolis Colts
Is this really that unrealistic at this point?
Of course, this is all league/manager dependent but this may very well be the only and last time you could hope to acquire Jonathan Taylor in a dynasty format.
The Indianapolis Colts have been a puzzling mess to start the season. The NFL’s highest-paid offensive line has made Taylor and the rest of the Colts’ offense ineffective. Top that off with the injury he suffered in their loss to the Tennessee Titans and you could have a frustrated, panicked dynasty manager.
Taylor’s value is at its lowest and now’s the time to take a chance.
Gabe Davis – WR, Buffalo Bills
Gabe Davis picked up where he left off last season in week one against the Los Angeles Rams with a stat line of 4 receptions on 5 targets, 88 yards and 1 touchdown. Since then, however, he’s totalled 4 receptions on 9 targets and 50 yards.
Having said that, his snap share is the highest amongst the wide receiver group in Buffalo at 73.9 percent, just ahead of Stefon Diggs’ 73.5 percent. Knowing Davis is going to be on the field in one of the most potent offenses in the league makes him a very attractive buy-low candidate this week.
Try and get him on your roster before week 5 begins.
Kenneth Walker III – RB, Seattle Seahawks
A rookie who’s flown under the radar so far this season is Kenneth Walker III.
Walker III was the 41st overall pick by the Seattle Seahawks in the 2022 draft and looks to be the running back of the future. The first part of training camp and his season have been hampered by injury but things are starting to look up.
His carries increased to 8 last week and is the clear number two behind Rashaad Penny with a 23.9 percent snap share. Given Penny’s injury history and contract situation beyond this season, Walker III is a player I want to try and get on my dynasty roster.
Sell-High Trade Suggestions
Rashaad Penny – RB, Seattle Seahawks
Speaking of Rashaad Penny, he lands here in our sell-high portion of the article.
Penny erupted against the Detroit Lions in week4 for 151 yards on 17 attempts and 2 touchdowns. Talk about a breakout game. So far this season, Penny has a 63.3 percent snap share and 55.1 percent total rush share of the offense. It’s a perfect time to try and find a buyer for his services.
Given the poor running back play league-wide this season, plenty of fantasy managers out there are looking for a spark at the position. With all the things I outlined above for reasons to buy Kenneth Walker III, Penny’s play so far this season has given you a window to offload.
I would try and maximize your return now before any potential injury down the road.
Melvin Gordon III – RB, Denver Broncos
It always felt that either Javonte Williams or Melvin Gordon III would have stand-alone fantasy value this season, one way or another. Unfortunately, Gordon III’s value has come from a season-ending injury to Williams.
Now that the Broncos will likely have to heavily rely on Gordon III, it’s a good idea to see if you can offload him from your dynasty roster while his value is high. To be clear, the only reason why Gordon III’s value is high is due to potential opportunity.
So far this season, Gordon III has fumbled a total of 4 times and has a significantly lower snap share percentage (33.2 percent) than Williams (53.6 percent). That obviously is going to change going forward.
There will be no better time than now to trade away the ageing running back than now.
Gerald Everett – TE, Los Angeles Chargers
What a year so far for Gerald Everett.
Through four games, Everett has posted 16 receptions on 26 targets for 211 yards and 2 touchdowns. He’s getting 68.1 percent of the snap share along with 16.5 percent of the target share. He’s one of the few bright spots at a frustrating fantasy position.
Having said that, the 28-year-old has benefited from Keenan Allen being out of the lineup for the majority of the season. The uncertainty that Allen’s situation brings when he returns should make his fantasy managers feel uneasy.
For that reason and given the other options Justin Herbert has in his offense, now’s the time to see if you can get anything worthwhile for him in a trade. If you have another option on your roster or are willing to stream at the tight end position, you could cash out now and get better in other areas on your roster.
Redraft leagues are a sprint, dynasty leagues are a marathon. It’s important to stay level-headed and avoid making rash decisions based on week-to-week results. It’s more important to pick a direction, make a plan and stick to it. Stay tuned to FantasyData for weekly buy/sell options to keep you on track.
