Dynasty Football Buy Low/Sell High Week 7
This time of year is always interesting, especially this season. We have DeAndre Hopkins coming off a suspension, the NFL Trade Deadline creeping up on us and teams are beginning to separate themselves. This is also the time of year to start thinking about security on your roster, the players we’re targeting this week will reflect that.
Weekly, I’m going to focus on some buy-low and sell-high players to help you reach your dynasty goals. With that being said, let’s get into it.
Quick Links
Buy-Low Trade Targets
Gus Edwards – RB, Baltimore Ravens
Healthy or not, J.K. Dobbins isn’t all the way back yet. Dobbins may have re-injured himself this past week. Most thought by this point, he would be firmly entrenched in the RB2 discussion; instead, he still enters every week with some form of uncertainty.
The Ravens have plenty of running backs to trot out onto the field. Kenyan Drake and Justice Hill are the two most notable. However, the Ravens have another card up their sleeve with Gus Edwards. Edwards who hasn’t played yet this season, but is on the verge of returning, has the most upside of any Baltimore running back not named J.K. Dobbins.
If you’re a Dobbins manager, strike before Edwards has a chance to see the field.
Jaylen Warren – RB, Pittsburgh Steelers
Another pre-emptive target to look for is Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jaylen Warren.
Last week in this section of the article, I had Najee Harris. That still holds true, remember this is a dynasty discussion. Having said that, trying to acquire his handcuff while Harris looks to be struggling with his physical health is something dynasty managers should be exploring.
Warren is currently seeing the bulk of the work behind Harris with 21 rushing attempts and 9 targets, establishing himself as the clear leader should something happen to the Steelers’ prized running back.
He should be rostered at this point in most if not all dynasty leagues, but it shouldn’t take much to get him on your roster if you want some security for your Harris shares.
Michael Gallup – WR, Dallas Cowboys
Staying with the theme of security, how about Michael Gallup? This may be the last week of the season you can buy low on the Dallas Cowboys receiver.
Some things we know about Gallup and the Cowboys; he signed a big contract extension at the end of last season, clearly indicating he’s in their current and future plans. Dak Prescott is on the verge of returning, which should hopefully elevate the offense and CeeDee Lamb has a history of being banged up.
Given all those points and Gallup’s age, if he can get on the same page as Prescott while they both re-integrate into the lineup, he’ll be well worth the investment heading into the middle of the fantasy season.
Sell-High Trade Suggestions
Chase Claypool – WR, Pittsburgh Steelers
Last week I had Diontae Johnson in this spot, now I have his counterpart. The only wide receiver that I’m happy to roster from Pittsburgh is George Pickens, which means I’m trying to capitalize on Chase Claypool’s touchdown before the Thursday Night game this week.
Not only am I worried about the continued inconsistency in play, but I’m also worried we’re going to be on the quarterback rollercoaster all season long with Kenny Pickett suffering a concussion and Mitchell Trubisky playing well in relief. We’re likely not going to see Pickett pull away until next season now, and because of that, it will be a crap shoot each week with who to start.
Take his stat line from this week and hit the group chat. Try to sell it for all it’s worth and take this opportunity to move on.
JuJu Smith-Schuster – WR, Kansas City Chiefs
It seems the last two weeks of this article have had a major Steelers feel, I promise it’s not intentional.
Having said that, very similar to the Chase Claypool situation, sell JuJu Smith-Schuster and his (only) touchdown immediately.
Inconsistency and early career injuries are two things that make me uneasy when it comes to dynasty roster management. JuJu has given us both, unfortunately.
Coming into this season most thought Smith-Schuster would finally break out and separate himself from the pack while being tied to Patrick Mahomes, but we’ve got a mixed bag. In fact, between Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Mecole Hardman, Mahomes has only thrown 3 touchdowns. The offense clearly runs through Travis Kelce, who’s at a staggering 7 touchdowns and a team-leading 24.2 percent target share.
Given that information, take the touchdown and run to the market with JuJu.
Darrell Henderson – RB, Los Angeles Rams
This one might be ahead scratcher. Many managers might think they’ve found gold with the expected departure of Cam Akers and with Darrell Henderson getting the lion’s share of the touches in what we expected to be a good offense. It’s all a mirage.
The Rams’ offensive line has been atrocious this year, and it’s going to get worse with the expected loss of their left tackle Joe Noteboom to a season-ending Achilles injury. Not to mention the poor overall play of Matthew Stafford and the rest of the offense so far.
If I have Henderson, I’m looking to flip him plus other assets for one of these higher-end slumping running backs to really maximize my return.
Redraft leagues are a sprint, dynasty leagues are a marathon. It’s important to stay level-headed and avoid making rash decisions based on week-to-week results. It’s more important to pick a direction, make a plan and stick to it. Stay tuned to FantasyData for weekly buy/sell options to keep you on track.
