Relief pitcher Al Alburquerque has been released by the Toronto Blue Jays. Alburquerque has yet to pitch at the major league level in 2018. However, he pitched to a 3.77 ERA and a 27/8 K/BB ratio with Toronto's minor league system. Alburquerque looked stellar in 2017, pitching to a 2.50 ERA over 27 games with the Royals and White Sox. Perhaps he gets another opportunity at the major league level in 2018. For now, he needs to be left on all waiver wires.
Kansas City Royals relief pitcher Al Alburquerque looked like a closer-in-waiting when he made his debut for the Tigers in 2011. He had three stellar seasons as a setup man for Detroit before flaming out in 2015. After bouncing around a couple different organizations, he now returns to the bigs in Kansas City's bullpen. Alburquerque is still able to hit the mid-90s on the gun, and if Kansas City starts to sell off their bullpen pieces, he could get a turn in the big chair. His main competition in such a scenario would likely be reliever Matt Strahm.
