Alcides Escobar Reinstated From Injured List Tuesday

The Washington Nationals reinstated infielder Alcides Escobar (hamstring) from the injured list. The veteran infielder is batting .220 with a .264 on-base percentage and a stolen base in 118 plate appearances in his second season with the Nationals. Capable of playing shortstop, second base, and third base, Escobar will give Washington another infield option alongside Cesar Hernandez, Luis Garcia, Maikel Franco, and Ehire Adrianza.

Alcides Escobar Goes On IL, Luis Garcia Recalled

The Washington Nationals placed shortstop Alcides Escobar (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday with a right hamstring strain and recalled infielder Luis Garcia from Triple-A Rochester in a corresponding move. Escobar was hitting .220/.264/.288 with no home runs, eight RBI and one steal in 35 games and wasn't a fantasy option in mixed leagues to begin with. Garcia, on the other hand, is more intriguing for fantasy purposes. He hit .242/.275/.411 with six home runs and 22 RBI in 70 games for the Nats last year and was slashing .314/.368/.531 with eight long balls and a steal in 193 plate appearances for Rochester. Garcia should be the team's primary option at shortstop with Escobar sidelined.

Alcides Escobar Exits Early With Leg Injury

Washington Nationals shortstop Alcides Escobar (leg) exited Tuesday's game against the New York Mets early with an apparent leg injury. The 35-year-old sustained the injury while making a diving play at shortstop in the He went 0-for-1 before leaving. Dee Strange-Gordon shifted from left field to shortstop while Lane Thomas entered the game as Escobar's replacement. The severity of Escobar's injury is unknown at this time, and he is considered day-to-day. Gordon will handle shortstop duties and is expected to see an uptick in at-bats if Escobar misses any time.

Alcides Escobar Dealing With Stiff Neck

Washington Nationals shortstop Alcides Escobar (neck) is dealing with a stiff neck and was held out of Monday's Grapefruit League game against the St. Louis Cardinals as a result. Luscious Fox drew the start at shortstop, but he's not necessarily guaranteed to make the Opening Day roster. There's a chance the Nats carry an 11th relief pitcher instead of a fourth bench player like Fox. Escobar is considered day-to-day for now, but it's unclear if he'll be ready for Opening Day later this week. The 35-year-old glove-first shortstop made a nice impact for the Nationals late last year, but before joining them, he hadn't played in the majors since 2018 with the Kansas City Royals. Escobar has an extremely low fantasy ceiling in NL-only leagues.

Alcides Escobar To See Bulk Of Time At Shortstop

Washington Nationals manager Dave Martinez said that shortstop Alcides Escobar will see the bulk of the time at shortstop this year, at least as things stand right now. The Nationals could always sign another player before the start of the season, but until/if that happens, Escobar will be the guy. The Nats picked the 35-year-old veteran up after Trea Turner was shipped to the Los Angeles Dodgers last year, and Escobar performed admirably, slashing .288/.340/.404 with four home runs, 28 RBI and 53 runs scored in 349 plate appearances over 75 games. Before last year, he hadn't played in the majors since 2018 with the Kansas City Royals, when he hit just .239 with four homers and 34 RBI in 140 games. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect Escobar to hit as well as he did last year over a full season, and he'll mostly be middle infield depth for those in deep mixed and NL-only affairs.

Alcides Escobar Re-Signs With Nationals

Washington Nationals shortstop Alcides Escobar re-signed with the club, agreeing to a one-year deal. Escobar appeared in the majors for the first time since 2018 this past season, slashing .288/.340/.404 in 319 at-bats with four homers and three steals. Escobar was lauded for his leadership abilities, particularly providing an example for young infielders Carter Kieboom and Luis Garcia. He will enter 2022 without a guaranteed starting job, and fantasy managers may want to look to other options at draft time.

Alcides Escobar Reaches Three Times To Finish 2021

Washington Nationals infielder Alcides Escobar reached three times in Sunday's 7-5 season-finale loss to the Washington Nationals. He went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and a run scored. Escobar finished the season slashing .293/.338/.451 with three homers, two steals and 23 runs scored over his last 30 games, with three multi-hit efforts in his last six. It remains to be seen where he will land for 2022, but he does not figure to be on fantasy rosters to start the year.

Alcides Escobar Homers On Friday

Washington Nationals infielder Alcides Escobar homered against the Boston Red Sox Friday, driving in the team's first run in a 4-2 loss. Escobar went 2-for-5 for the game, and the solo shot was his fourth of the season. He's slashing .357/.400/.514 with two homers and a steal in his last 15 games, and somewhat unbelievably playing himself into consideration for a role on the 2022 Washington squad. Regardless of where he plays next season, he should not be drafted to fantasy rosters.

Alcides Escobar Extends Hitting Streak With Homer

Washington Nationals shortstop Alcides Escobar extended his hitting streak to 10 games Friday, as he went 2-for-6 with a home run, a double, two RBI, and two runs scored in an 8-7 extra-inning loss to the Cincinnati Reds. Escobar has five multi-hit performances during his streak, with six extra-base hits. He now has three homers and three steals on the season, so he doesn't offer much categorical upside, but he's still worth a look for fantasy managers who need middle-infield help.

Alcides Escobar Doubles, Drives In Two

Washington Nationals shortstop Alcides Escobar doubled and drove in two runs in Tuesday's 7-1 victory over the Miami Marlins, going 1-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored. Escobar has slashed .394/.400/.485 with six RBI and a stolen base over his last seven games, during which time he has hit safely in every game. Escobar bats in the second spot of the lineup, making him a prime candidate to score plenty of runs, which could be a big help for fantasy managers in deep mixed and NL-only leagues.
