Luis Garcia Jr. Now has Nine Homers in his Last 15 Games

Washington Nationals infielder Luis Garcia Jr. has been tearing the cover off the baseball lately. That trend continued in Friday night's 9-5 win over the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates at Nationals Park, with Garcia going 2-for-4 at the plate with two home runs, three RBI, and a walk to raise his season batting average to .283 and his OPS to .874. There aren't many hitters hotter than Garcia right now. The 26-year-old left-handed-hitting infielder wasn't the only one that was feeling it on Friday night, as the Nationals slugged a total of five home runs to put the Pirates away without much of a fight. Garcia now has a whopping nine home runs in his last 13 games and is up to a .396/.453/.1.021 slash line with 17 RBI in his last 15 games played. The recent hot stretch has definitely attracted the interest of fantasy managers, and Garcia is now rostered in 75% of Yahoo leagues. Through May, Garcia was hitting .268 (48-for-179) with only five homers, 30 RBI, 21 runs, and two stolen bases in 54 games.

Luis Garcia Jr. Continues to Mash, Homers Twice in Win Over Orioles

There is perhaps no hitter in baseball hotter than Washington Nationals infielder Luis Garcia Jr. right now. In the Nationals' 6-4 win over the Baltimore Orioles in Sunday's series finale, Garcia went 3-for-5 at the plate with two home runs, five RBI, and three runs scored to boost his season batting average to .279 and his OPS to .850. The left-handed-hitting infielder has been seeing the ball extremely well in his last six games, going 10-for-19 with six long balls to raise his season slash line to .279/.307/.543 with 16 home runs, 55 RBI, 33 runs scored, and two stolen bases in his 270 plate appearances in his seventh year in the majors. The 26-year-old Garcia needs only three more home runs to set a new career high in that category. He has only three steals after swiping 36 over the last two seasons, but fantasy managers looking to ride the hot hand right now off the waiver wire should look no further than Garcia, who is rostered in 59% of Yahoo leagues at the moment. His fantasy ceiling isn't incredibly high, but a player with second base eligibility and 20-homer power is relevant in most fantasy leagues.

Luis Garcia Jr. Emerging as a Top Waiver-Wire Option

Washington Nationals second baseman Luis Garcia Jr. has been on a power binge in June, racking up eight home runs in his last 18 games. He's hitting .271 (16-for-59) over that span with a .426 wOBA and a 16.7% barrel rate. He has definitely risen to the point that he can be a solid option at 2B in almost all formats. Since power is scarce at 2B, Garcia can be a nice option off the waiver wire to offer your lineup some extra home runs and RBI if you can afford his lower batting average. The 26-year-old lefty is locked in at the plate, so use him as a streamer or a fill-in while he's on this hot streak.

Luis Garcia Jr. Stays Hot With Two Homers on Friday Night

Washington Nationals infielder Luis Garcia Jr. had a big game on Friday night in the team's 14-1 blowout victory at Chase Field against the hosting Arizona Diamondbacks, going 2-for-6 at the plate with two home runs and six RBI to boost his season batting average to .263 and his OPS to .745. Garcia got the Nats going early in the first inning with a two-run blast, and he capped things off later in the ballgame with a grand slam in the sixth inning. It was the 26-year-old's second multi-homer game of the 2026 season. He's not hitting .263/.291/.454 on the year with seven home runs, 37 RBI, 23 runs scored, and two stolen bases in his 58 games across 203 plate appearances in his seventh year in D.C. Fantasy managers will want to keep riding Garcia as long as he stays hot with the lumber. After his strong performance on Friday night against the D-backs, he is hitting .300 (12-for-40) with four dingers, a double, a triple, 15 RBI, and five runs scored in his last 11 games since May 23. Garcia is currently rostered in only 42% of Yahoo leagues.

Luis Garcia Jr. Still on the Bench on Friday Against Marlins

Washington Nationals infielder Luis Garcia Jr. (wrist) remains out for Friday's series opener against the division-rival Miami Marlins, according to MLB.com. Curtis Mead will make another start at first base and will bat second against Marlins rookie left-hander Robby Snelling, who is making his major-league debut. Garcia will miss a fourth straight game due to a wrist/hand sprain. He said earlier this week that he would avoid a trip to the injured list, but that could change quickly if he cannot return to the field this weekend in Miami. The 25-year-old left-handed-hitting infielder is not a must-hold in fantasy leagues while he tries to overcome his wrist injury. In his first 107 at-bats this year, Garcia has 25 hits (.234 average) with just one home run, 16 RBI, 14 runs scored, and two stolen bases. Mead is a low-upside DFS sleeper in the two-hole. He's gone 4-for-19 (.211) in six games in May and is hitting just .220 on the year in a part-time role for the Nats.

Luis Garcia Jr. Still Out for Series Finale Against Twins

Washington Nationals infielder Luis Garcia Jr. (wrist) remains sidelined for Thursday's series finale against the visiting Minnesota Twins, according to MLB.com. Curtis Mead is making yet another start at first base and will bat third for the Nats against Twins right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson. Garcia said he will avoid a trip to the injured list with what is being called a minor right wrist sprain, but if he's unable to return for this weekend's series against the division-rival Miami Marlins, that could change. This will be his third straight missed game. The 25-year-old left-handed-hitting infielder merely offers infield depth to fantasy managers in deeper leagues. He's currently hitting .234 (25-for-107) with one home run, 16 RBI, 14 runs scored, and two stolen bases in 33 games played. Mead has four long balls in 78 at-bats, but he's also batting just .218 at the plate. The Australian has gone hitless in just two career at-bats against Woods Richardson.

Luis Garcia Jr. Remains Out of Nationals Lineup on Wednesday

Washington Nationals infielder Luis Garcia Jr. (wrist) remains out of the starting lineup on Wednesday against the visiting Minnesota Twins with a hand/wrist injury, per MLB.com. Curtis Mead will make another start at first base for the Nats and will hit third in the batting order against Twins right-hander Bailey Ober. Garcia is missing a second straight start after injuring his hand/wrist in Sunday's series finale against the Milwaukee Brewers. The 25-year-old is considered day-to-day for now and could be back as early as Thursday's series finale in D.C. against the Twins. Garcia, who is merely an infield depth option in deeper fantasy leagues, has hit just .234 (25-for-107) with a homer, 16 RBI, 14 runs scored, and two stolen bases in his 33 games played so far in 2026 as the team's regular first baseman. Mead has one hit in just two career at-bats against Ober.

Luis Garcia Jr. to Have MRI on his Wrist on Monday

Washington Nationals infielder Luis Garcia Jr. (wrist) is heading for an MRI exam on his injured wrist on Monday, manager Blake Butera told Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports. Garcia felt his right wrist while swinging on Sunday against the Milwaukee Brewers and was replaced at first base in the sixth inning by Curtis Mead. For now, the Nationals are classifying the 25-year-old's injury as wrist soreness, but we should know more soon. With a scheduled day off on Monday, perhaps Garcia will be feeling good enough to play in Tuesday's series opener against the visiting Minnesota Twins if his MRI comes back clean. Before he was pulled from Sunday's series finale against Milwaukee, Garcia went 0-for-2 at the plate, and he's now hitting just .234/.259/.336 with a .595 OPS, one home run, 16 RBI, 14 runs scored, and two stolen bases in 107 at-bats in 2026. Garcia is currently rostered in 45% of Yahoo leagues.

Luis Garcia Jr. a Candidate to Play First Base?

According to Jessica Camerato of MLB.com, the Nationals could explore shifting second baseman Luis Garcia Jr. to first base to begin the season. Last summer, Garcia was given a brief two-game stint at first base and could begin to take on a larger role there, given Washington's current roster. Additionally, the Nationals could turn to Matt Mervis, Andres Chaparro, or prospect Yohandy Morales to begin the campaign as the team's starting first baseman. In 2025, Garcia spent the majority of his time at the keystone and held a .252/.289/.412 slash line with 28 doubles, 16 home runs, and 14 stolen bases. Managers should monitor his usage in spring training, as he could earn more positional eligibility if he were to appear in enough games at first base. If he were to completely shift to first base, Jose Tena and Nasim Nunez would likely earn starts at second base.

Luis Garcia Jr. Starting on Monday

Washington Nationals second baseman Luis Garcia Jr. (back) is starting at second base and will hit eighth in Monday's series opener against the hosting Kansas City Royals and left-hander Bailey Falter. Garcia will be back in there in KC after he missed the last three contests due to back tightness. The 25-year-old hasn't been as productive this year as he was in 2024, when he hit a career-best .282 with 18 home runs, 70 RBI and 22 stolen bases in 140 games played. In his sixth MLB campaign, he's slashing .263/.302/.399 with only nine homers, 50 RBI, 49 runs and nine stolen bases in 101 games played. In five games so far in August, Garcia has six hits in 21 plate appearances with three RBI and three runs scored. Garcia has faced Falter eight times in his career and is hitting .250.
