How Sustainable is Will Warren's Early-Season Improvement?

After allowing six earned runs to the Texas Rangers on May 6, New York Yankees starting pitcher Will Warren bounced back with a strong performance against the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday. The 26-year-old is off to a solid start to 2026 overall, as he's recorded a 5-1 record with a 3.42 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 59 strikeouts across 47 1/3 innings (nine starts). Warren has lowered his walk rate from 9.1% in 2025 to 6.1% in 2026 while simultaneously improving his strikeout rate from 24.1% to 29.8%. He's also allowing less hard contact so far this season, as opponents own a 41.3% hard-hit rate against him after posting a 45.2% hard-hit rate last year. Additionally, Warren's spot in the Yankees' rotation may be more secure after fellow starter Max Fried (elbow) was removed from his start on Wednesday due to elbow soreness. While Warren may not offer elite upside, he looks like a reliable source of strikeouts and innings for fantasy managers in 2026.

Will Warren Carries Breakout Potential into 2026

In his first full season in the big leagues in 2025, New York Yankees starting pitcher Will Warren recorded a 9-8 record with a 4.44 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, and 171 strikeouts across 162 1/3 innings (33 starts). The 26-year-old struggled with consistent command (9.1% walk rate) and allowed a slightly elevated 1.22 HR/9. However, Warren held a spot in the Yankees' rotation for the entire season and has consistently shown the ability to generate swing-and-miss pitches throughout his entire professional career. With Yankees starting pitchers Gerrit Cole (elbow), Carlos Rodon (elbow), and Clarke Schmidt (elbow) all opening 2026 on the injured list, Warren currently pencils in as the number three starter in New York. Warren is also coming off an impressive Grapefruit League, where he pitched to a 1.42 ERA and 0.63 WHIP while allowing just three walks across 25 1/3 innings. Warren could emerge as a breakout starting pitcher for fantasy managers in 2026.

Will Warren Could Be an Undervalued Source of Strikeouts Entering 2026

New York Yankees starting pitcher Will Warren emerged as a rotation staple in 2025, recording a 9-8 record with a 4.44 ERA and 1.37 WHIP with 171 strikeouts across 162 1/3 innings (33 starts). While the 26-year-old had a few notable blowup outings that impacted his ratios, Warren also led all rookies in strikeouts and proved he could handle a full season's worth of a starter's workload. With Yankees starters Gerrit Cole (elbow) and Carlos Rodon (elbow) both on the Injured List to open 2026, Warren has a rotation spot in New York locked up to start the year. He has also recorded strong numbers so far this spring, pitching to a 1.77 ERA and 0.74 WHIP while allowing just three walks across 20 1/3 Grapefruit League innings. If Warren can do a better job limiting start-ruining damage while maintaining an above-average strikeout rate in his second full MLB season, he could easily outperform his current average draft position of SP95.

Will Warren has Promising Spring Training Debut

New York Yankees right-hander Will Warren got his spring training off to a strong start in Tuesday's Grapefruit League victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. Warren picked up the win by allowing an earned run on four hits while walking none and striking out four in 2 2/3 innings. The 26-year-old threw 36 of his 49 pitches for strikes in the outing. In his first full season in the big leagues in the Bronx last year, Warren went 9-8 with a 4.44 ERA (4.07 FIP) and 1.37 WHIP with 171 strikeouts and 65 walks in 33 starts over 162 1/3 innings pitched. He should be a lock to start the year in the Yankees' starting rotation with Gerrit Cole (elbow), Carlos Rodon (elbow), and Clarke Schmidt (elbow) all starting on the injured list. Warren led all MLB rookies in strikeouts. To take the next step, Warren will need to fool hitters more regularly with his secondary pitches and lower his walk rate. Going into his second full season, RotoBaller has him ranked just inside the top 100 overall players.

Will Warren Strikes Out 11 in Quality Start

New York Yankees starting pitcher Will Warren was handed a loss on Tuesday in a 4-0 defeat to the Angels. His start wasn't bad by any means, as he allowed three runs on six hits and no walks while striking out 11. This was his second double-digit strikeout performance of the season, but also only his second quality start. The 26-year-old typically struggles with efficiency, completing at least six full frames only in those two quality starts. The right-hander's 4.83 ERA makes him a liability for fantasy in that regard, although 90 strikeouts in 69 innings is a rate that not many other starters are capable of. He'll look to get back in the win column in his next start, currently lined up to be against the Orioles.

Will Warren Dealt No-Decision

New York Yankees starting pitcher Will Warren hurled 5 2/3 shutout frames, but did not factor into his team's 1-0 road win against the Kansas City Royals. The Southeastern Louisiana alum allowed four hits and struck out four while issuing one free pass. Warren and opposing starter Seth Lugo were locked in a scoreless duel, though neither could complete the sixth inning. Just one of the four hits against him went for extra bases (triple). The 25-year-old had yielded 11 runs over his previous two starts (and walked eight), so it was nice to see him bounce back. Despite the ugly few outings bloating his ERA (4.86) and WHIP (1.37), he's striking out 28.6% of the batters he's faced and should be in store for better results, considering a 3.33 xFIP. He'll get the visiting Los Angeles Angels his next time out.

Will Warren Strikes Out 10, Earns Win Tuesday

New York Yankees starting pitcher Will Warren turned in a solid start in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Rangers. Warren pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing no runs on five hits and a walk with a season-high 10 strikeouts. The 25-year-old has had a good season overall through his first 10 starts, going 3-2 with a 4.05 ERA, a 1.29 WHIP, and an 11.57 K/9 rate in 46 2/3 IP. His next start will be a favorable matchup against a weak Rockies lineup, but he will have to face them in Coors Field. He has allowed hard contact this season but has done a good job keeping the ball on the ground, so he would be a safer start in points leagues.

Will Warren Strikes Out Seven In Friday's Win

New York Yankees starting pitcher Will Warren lasted a season-high 7 1/3 innings in Friday's 10-2 victory over the Athletics, allowing just one run on four hits and a walk while striking out seven batters on the way to earning his second win of the season. The 25-year-old hadn't pitched more than five innings in any of his previous seven turns through the rotation, so this was also his first quality start of the year as well. Now the owner of a 4.75 ERA (3.34 xFIP), 1.36 WHIP, and a 15.8 percent K-BB%, the righty will take on Seattle on the road in his next start, a team that has been surprisingly good on offense this season (sixth-most runs per game), so unless you're in desperate need of strikeouts, Warren may be best left on the bench or waiver wire next week.

Will Warren Stumbles In Monday's Loss

New York Yankees pitching prospect Will Warren struggled during his loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Monday evening. The right-hander logged just three 1/3 innings of work and allowed six hits and four runs. He served up two walks and struck out five batters. Warren was able to earn a spot on the Opening Day roster but has struggled at times during his first extended look in the major leagues. Through his first 24 innings of the campaign (six starts), the 25-year-old has held a 5.63 ERA with a 1.42 WHIP. During this stint, he has struck out 26 batters and served up 12 free passes. Under the hood, he has placed in the 30th percentile and 26th percentile in xERA and xBA, which suggests he may continue to see inconsistent results. As a result, he should only be targeted in 15-team formats for his strikeout upside.

Will Warren Makes The Yankees Roster

On Sunday, New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone announced that pitching prospect Will Warren made the Opening Day roster and will make his first start on April 1 versus the Arizona Diamondbacks. Warren, getting his first taste of MLB, is a 25-year-old drafted by the Yankees in the eighth round of the 2021 MLB draft. Warren has had a respectable spring training, logging 19 innings, a 4.19 ERA, 4.57 FIP, and an 8.84 K/9. The Yankees have been struck with the injury bug, losing their ace Gerrit Cole (elbow) for the year and Luis Gil (lat) for at least the first three months of the season. This opens the door for Warren and allows him to show he belongs in the big leagues. Fantasy managers can stay away from Warren for the time being until he showcases some consistency in his first few starts.
