George Lombard Jr. Lands on Minor-League Injured List With Sprained Fingers

Top New York Yankees prospect George Lombard Jr. (fingers) was placed on the seven-day injured list at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre with "a couple" sprained fingers on his left hand, according to Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News. Lombard was injured in Tuesday's game with the Rail Riders when a runner slid into his glove at second base. The good news is that aside from Lombard's sprained fingers, tests on his left hand came back clean. The Yankees have "no idea" how long Lombard might be out for. He's considered baseball's No. 18 prospect in 2026, and he's currently hitting .258 with an .833 OPS in 62 games this year with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Double-A Somerset, adding eight homers, 25 RBI, 12 steals, and 48 runs scored across 287 plate appearances. The 21-year-old should be stashed in dynasty/keeper leagues, and he could be an alternative option for the Bombers later this season at the 6 if they aren't happy with the combination of Anthony Volpe/Jose Caballero. In Yahoo leagues, Lombard is eligible at second base, third base, and shortstop, and he's rostered in only 4% of leagues.

Top Yankees Prospect George Lombard Jr. Injures his Wrist on Tuesday

New York Yankees infield prospect George Lombard Jr. (wrist) injured his wrist and was removed from the game early on Tuesday at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after receiving a throw at second base during a stolen-base attempt, according to Talkin' Yanks. Before departing, Lombard went 1-for-1 at the plate with a double and a walk as the Rail Riders' leadoff hitter. The 21-year-old top prospect looked to be in a lot of pain, but the severity of his wrist injury is unknown right now. The Yankees' top prospect, per MLB Pipeline, hit .312 (24-for-77) with four homers, 10 RBI, 18 runs, and four steals at Double-A Somerset to begin the year before being moved up to Triple-A, where he has gone 36-for-156 (.231) with four more homers, 15 RBI, eight stolen bases, and 30 runs scored across 42 games and 197 plate appearances. Just based on how Lombard's injury looked on Tuesday, he could be looking at a trip to the seven-day minor-league injured list. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound infielder might not make his MLB debut until 2027, but he's still worth stashing in all dynasty/keeper leagues.

George Lombard Jr. a Must-Stash Prospect in Deeper Leagues?

New York Yankees shortstop prospect George Lombard Jr. continues to deliver stolen bases and impressive contact results, making him a potential stash candidate in deeper fantasy baseball leagues. Between Double-A and Triple-A this year, he's slashing .245/.381/.399 with six homers, 22 RBI, 11 steals, a 17.1% walk rate, and a 22.2% strikeout rate. Although that strikeout rate is a little higher than we'd like to see from someone with just six homers, we're encouraged that his home run total could increase going forward. The quality of contact has been solid, as he owns an average exit velocity of 91.9 mph (87th percentile) in Triple-A. He's also walking more than 93% of his peers, and his plate discipline has been fair with a 22.6% chase rate. All in all, the stolen bases, walks, and potential for more homers puts Lombard on the radar as an intriguing stash in deeper fantasy baseball leagues.

Does George Lombard Jr. Have a Path to an Early MLB Debut?

Infielder George Lombard Jr. is the team's top overall prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and he could be on track to make a much earlier than expected debut in the big leagues in 2026. Lombard was promoted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre at the end of April after hitting .312 (24-for-77) with four home runs, 10 RBI, 18 runs scored, and four stolen bases in just 20 games with Double-A Somerset. The 21-year-old is already considered major-league-ready in terms of his glove, so he might not be far off from getting the call to the Bronx. The former 26th overall pick in 2023 out of Gulliver Preparatory School in Florida has played in 31 games at Triple-A and has gone 22-for-114 (.193) with two homers, 12 RBI, 23 runs, and six stolen bases in 149 plate appearances. Lombard has a patient approach and a maturing power profile, but he'll need to make more consistent contact to help fantasy managers down the road in the average department. With the expectation that Lombard has a good shot to make his MLB debut in 2026, fantasy managers in deeper leagues may want to get ahead of their league mates and stash him now. Lombard is rostered in just 4% of Yahoo leagues right now.

George Lombard Jr. Firmly on the Stash Radar as MLB Debut Looms Closer?

New York Yankees top-ranked prospect George Lombard Jr. has begun to find his footing at Triple-A and is emerging as a top prospect to stash given the current state of the MLB roster. Even with Anthony Volpe back in action, the team's current starting shortstop, Jose Caballero, has posted a modest .250/.300/.286 line since returning from injury in mid-May. While Lombard endured some growing pains at Triple-A earlier this season, the team's No. 1 prospect has since turned the corner, showing his elite raw talent. Over his last 14 games with the RailRaiders, Lombard has posted .273/.397/.473 line with five doubles, two home runs, three stolen bases, and an 18:23 K:BB. With a clear path to an everyday role, Lombard is quickly climbing the stash ranks and could be in the mix to debut much sooner than anticipated.

George Lombard Jr. Seeing Stash Value Surge Amid Improvements at Triple-A

New York Yankees top prospect George Lombard Jr. has begun to put his slow start at Triple-A behind him and is emerging as a viable stash option in a last-minute league. Lombard opened the campaign with Double-A Somerset but needed only another 20 games at this level to earn the call to the top club in the Yankees system. However, the team's No. 1-ranked prospect endured some growing pains early on in his Triple-A career, posting a modest .177/.351/.127 line with a .429 OPS. During this 15-game skid, Lombard did not tally a single extra-base hit. However, since then, Lombard has turned the corner rather quickly, posting a .306/.350/.417 line with four doubles over his last eight contests. Even though Jose Caballero is back in action on the MLB roster, Lombard could compete for an MLB debut in the second half as the Yankees also lack much offense at the hot corner. For now, the former 26th overall pick holds viable stash upside in deeper 12+ team leagues.

George Lombard Jr. Worth Stashing Due to High Walk Rate in Minors?

New York Yankees shortstop George Lombard Jr. has posted mixed results at the plate since his promotion to Triple-A, but there's no denying that he's an on-base machine. Lombard has walked more than he's struck out in Triple-A, and he also has more walks than hits. He's slashing .178/.362/.205 at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre with zero homers, four steals, a 20.2% walk rate, and a 18.1% strikeout rate. We'd like to see a little more power, but it's also a small sample size. Between Double-A and Triple-A combined this year, he has four homers and eight steals. The impressive on-base percentage and decent steals total could make him an intriguing stash in deeper fantasy baseball leagues. His MLB debut isn't imminent, as he's played just 19 games in Triple-A, but there's definitely long-term upside here. He ranks #27 among shortstop prospects in RotoBaller's latest dynasty fantasy baseball rankings.

On the Doorstep to Majors, George Lombard Jr. Enters Stash Conversation

New York Yankees shortstop prospect George Lombard Jr.'s bat has cooled since being greeted by Triple-A pitching, going just 9-for-59 (.153) without a single extra-base hit over his first 16 games at that level. On the bright side, the Yankees' top-ranked prospect has shown a supremely keen eye, drawing 17 walks (21.8 percent) compared to only 12 strikeouts (15.4 percent), and has stolen three bases. Recently-activated Anthony Volpe has a pair of multi-hit games over his last two contests, and Jose Caballero (finger) could soon return from the injured list, so a big league debut doesn't appear to be imminent, but that could change quickly. If Volpe falters or Caballero encounters a setback, Lombard's chance could be next. With a fantasy-friendly toolset, the soon-to-be-21-year-old should be on the stash radar.

George Lombard Jr. Next in Line for Starting Shortstop Job in the Bronx?

New York Yankees top prospect George Lombard Jr. could be in the mix to make his MLB debut much sooner than anticipated. With the team's current shortstop, Jose Caballero, on the injured list and the replacement option, Anthony Volpe struggling to make much of an impact, the Yankees could fast-track their top prospect to fill the role on the MLB roster. Lombard opened the 2026 campaign at Double-A Somerset but needed just another 20 games at the level to prove he was ready to join Triple-A. With Double-A, Lombard posted a strong .971 OPS with four home runs and four stolen bases over this short stint. However, since moving up to Triple-A, Lombard has seen his production decline, posting a .146 AVG with no extra-base hits (12 games). Despite this, he has shown a strong eye, drawing 16 walks compared to nine strikeouts. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on Lombard's bat. Once he finds his footing against the top pitching in the minors, it may not take long for the Yankees to call his name, especially if Caballero's injury begins to linger.

George Lombard Jr. Being Promoted to Triple-A

New York Yankees infield prospect George Lombard Jr. is being promoted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, according to Jack Curry of YES Network. The Yankees have believed that Lombard is ready for the majors from a defensive standpoint, but they will now monitor how he progresses offensively at the highest minor-league level. Curry adds that the expectation is that Lombard will play some shortstop and third base at Triple-A. The 20-year-old former 26th overall pick in 2023 got the promotion to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after going 24-for-74 (.324) with four home runs, 10 RBI, 18 runs scored, and four stolen bases in 87 plate appearances over 19 games at Double-A Somerset to begin the 2026 season. Lombard has always been one of the youngest players at every level, and he still has plenty of time to mature and access more raw power from his 6-foot-2, 190-pound frame. Per MLB Pipeline, Lombard is New York's top prospect. Unless Lombard just absolutely kills it at the plate in Triple-A, it's more likely that he'll make his major-league debut for the Yankees in 2027.
