Max Fried to Throw Another Live Bullpen Next Week

New York Yankees left-hander Max Fried (elbow) is facing hitters again on Sunday at Yankee Stadium, and manager Aaron Boone told Jorge Castillo of ESPN that the plan is for Fried to throw another live bullpen session on Thursday or Friday of next week before going on a minor-league rehab assignment. The 32-year-old veteran southpaw has been sidelined since the middle of May with a bone bruise in his left elbow, but he's progressing nicely and could be ready to rejoin the Yankees' starting rotation for the start of the second half of the season on July 17, barring a setback on his rehab assignment. The three-time All-Star was 4-3 with a 3.21 ERA (2.72 FIP) and 1.00 WHIP with 50 strikeouts and 19 walks in 61 2/3 innings over 10 starts in his second season in the Bronx this year before landing on the injured list. He led the league with 19 wins in his first year with the Yankees, and he's a must-start in fantasy when he's active. Fried should not be floating around on any waiver wires due to his elbow injury.

Max Fried to Throw 35 Pitches on Sunday in Sim Game

New York Yankees starting pitcher Max Fried (elbow) is set to throw 35 pitches over two up-and-down simulated innings on Sunday. It has been reported that if this session goes smoothly, he will increase his workload to 40 pitches later in the week. The 32-year-old is said to have felt completely normal after his last live bullpen session, which is great news for both him and the Yankees. In addition to making progress with his health, he has also reportedly been working on mechanical tweaks to his repertoire. Despite the significant forward progress, it's worth noting that the southpaw still has a long way to go in his recovery and will almost certainly require a rehab assignment. As such, a return later in July should be considered the best-case scenario.

Max Fried to Throw to Live Hitters Again on Sunday

New York Yankees left-hander Max Fried (elbow) will throw another live batting practice session on Sunday, manager Aaron Boone told Chris Kirschner of The Athletic. Fried threw a two-inning simulated game at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday for the first time since going on the injured list in mid-May and apparently didn't suffer any setbacks. If he has another successful live session on Sunday, the Yankees could clear him to start a minor-league rehab assignment. The 32-year-old southpaw and three-time All-Star is making good progress, but fantasy managers shouldn't expect him to be a realistic option to rejoin New York's starting rotation until after the All-Star break in mid-July. He has been a must-start since joining the Yankees before last season, going 23-8 with a 2.94 ERA (2.98 FIP) and 1.08 WHIP with 239 strikeouts and 70 walks in 257 innings pitched across his 42 starts. Fried was 4-3 this year with a 3.21 ERA (2.71 FIP), 1.00 WHIP, and 50:19 K:BB in 61 2/3 innings across 10 starts before going on the IL with an elbow injury.

Max Fried to Throw Two-Inning Sim Game on Tuesday

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that left-hander Max Fried (elbow) is scheduled to throw a two-inning simulated game on Tuesday and throw 30 pitches, according to David Lennon of Newsday. It will be the first time that Fried has faced live hitters since the Yankees put him on the 15-day injured list on May 16 with a bone bruise in his left elbow. The 32-year-old All-Star southpaw is making good progress, but he won't have enough time to get stretched out to rejoin the big-league starting rotation before the All-Star break in the middle of July. Fried, who is a three-time All-Star, was excellent in his first year in pinstripes in 2025, when he won a league-high 19 games and posted a 2.86 ERA (3.07 FIP), 1.10 WHIP, and 189:51 K:BB in 195 1/3 innings across his 32 regular-season starts. Before going on the IL with his elbow injury, Fried went 4-3 with a 3.21 ERA (2.71 FIP) and 1.00 WHIP with 50 K's and 19 walks in 10 starts. In a best-case scenario, Fried will be ready to roll in late July, and he should not be floating around on any waiver wires at this time.

Max Fried Set to Face Hitters Soon

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that left-hander Max Fried (elbow) should start facing hitters by either "the end of this month or the start of next month," according to Erik Boland of Newsday. Fried had another successful bullpen session on Friday and has been throwing off a mound for around a week as he works his way back from a bone bruise in his left elbow. The Yankees haven't given Fried a specific timetable for a return, but he's probably unlikely to be ready to rejoin the team's starting rotation before the All-Star break in mid-July. The 32-year-old veteran southpaw and three-time All-Star was lights-out in 2025 in his first year in the Bronx for the Yanks, going 19-5 with a 2.86 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and 189:51 K:BB in his 32 starts. In 10 starts (61 2/3 frames) this year before going on the injured list with his elbow bruise, Fried went 4-3 with a 3.21 ERA (2.71 FIP) and 1.00 WHIP with 50 K's and 19 walks. He has ace potential when he's healthy for fantasy managers and should be stashed in all formats while he recovers.

Max Fried Throws Bullpen Session on Friday

New York Yankees starting pitcher Max Fried (elbow) took the mound for a bullpen session on Friday. According to Gary Phillips, Fried threw a 28-pitch session. Barring any setbacks, Fried should be cleared to begin facing live hitters soon. The southpaw has been sidelined since mid-May due to a left elbow bone bruise. He still has more work to do, but Fried could potentially be back in the Yankees rotation at some point in July. Fantasy managers should continue to stash Fried as he's one of the best pitchers in baseball when he's healthy.

Max Fried Successfully Completes Bullpen on Tuesday

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that starting pitcher Max Fried's (elbow) bullpen on Tuesday "went well," per Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News. Fried has been on the 10-day injured list since mid-May due to a bone bruise in his left elbow. However, he appears to be making steady progress and could be nearing a rehab assignment. The veteran left-hander was off to a strong start to the 2026 season before the injury, recording a 4-3 record with a 3.21 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and 50 strikeouts across 61 2/3 innings (10 starts). Fried will likely need multiple rehab appearances before he's activated by the Yankees, so a July return could be the most likely scenario. Upon his return, Fried profiles as a must-start starting pitcher for fantasy managers.

Max Fried to Throw Off Mound on Saturday

New York Yankees starting pitcher Max Fried (elbow) is scheduled to throw off the mound on Saturday, according to manager Aaron Boone. The skipper continued by saying recent imaging on Fried's left elbow showed increased healing. The southpaw is ready for the next step in his recovery process. His first throwing session on Saturday will be "touch and feel," considering it's the first time that he has thrown since landing on the Injured List in May. There is still more work to be done, but this is an encouraging sign for the southpaw. There should be another update on his status following Saturday's session. If everything goes well, Fried might be able to go on a rehab assignment before the end of the month.

Max Fried Set to Undergo New Imaging on Injured Elbow This Week?

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone failed to provide an exact date but said that starting pitcher Max Fried (elbow) will undergo new imaging on his elbow later this week, per Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News. Fried has been on the 15-day injured list since mid-May due to a bone bruise in his pitching elbow, but he has advanced to throwing long toss and appears to be making steady progression towards a return. The 32-year-old recorded a 4-3 record with a 3.21 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and 50 strikeouts across 61 2/3 innings (10 starts) before getting injured. Fried's 20.8% strikeout rate is underwhelming for fantasy managers, but he projects as an excellent source of both ratios and wins upon his return. Fried will likely need at least a few rehab starts before he's ready to return to the Yankees, so he's likely still multiple weeks away from his return at a minimum.

Max Fried Nearing Return to Mound Work?

New York Yankees starting pitcher Max Fried (elbow) is expected to throw from 120 feet this week and will also undergo another round of imaging to determine if he can start working off the mound, per Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News. Fried is working his way back from a bone bruise in his pitching elbow that led to him being placed on the 15-day injured list in mid-May. Across 61 2/3 innings (10 starts) before the injury, the veteran left-hander had recorded a 4-3 record with a 3.21 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and 50 strikeouts. Fried's 12.9% K-BB rate was his worst since his rookie season in 2017, but opponents had hit just .196 with one home run against him. The 32-year-old appears to be making progress, but he likely remains at least a month or so away from returning to the big leagues. Fantasy managers should be looking for ways to stash Fried, unless he suffers a setback.
