Max Fried Successfully Completes Bullpen on Tuesday

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that starting pitcher Max Fried's (elbow) bullpen on Tuesday "went well," per Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News. Fried has been on the 10-day injured list since mid-May due to a bone bruise in his left elbow. However, he appears to be making steady progress and could be nearing a rehab assignment. The veteran left-hander was off to a strong start to the 2026 season before the injury, recording a 4-3 record with a 3.21 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and 50 strikeouts across 61 2/3 innings (10 starts). Fried will likely need multiple rehab appearances before he's activated by the Yankees, so a July return could be the most likely scenario. Upon his return, Fried profiles as a must-start starting pitcher for fantasy managers.

Max Fried to Throw Off Mound on Saturday

New York Yankees starting pitcher Max Fried (elbow) is scheduled to throw off the mound on Saturday, according to manager Aaron Boone. The skipper continued by saying recent imaging on Fried's left elbow showed increased healing. The southpaw is ready for the next step in his recovery process. His first throwing session on Saturday will be "touch and feel," considering it's the first time that he has thrown since landing on the Injured List in May. There is still more work to be done, but this is an encouraging sign for the southpaw. There should be another update on his status following Saturday's session. If everything goes well, Fried might be able to go on a rehab assignment before the end of the month.

Max Fried Set to Undergo New Imaging on Injured Elbow This Week?

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone failed to provide an exact date but said that starting pitcher Max Fried (elbow) will undergo new imaging on his elbow later this week, per Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News. Fried has been on the 15-day injured list since mid-May due to a bone bruise in his pitching elbow, but he has advanced to throwing long toss and appears to be making steady progression towards a return. The 32-year-old recorded a 4-3 record with a 3.21 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and 50 strikeouts across 61 2/3 innings (10 starts) before getting injured. Fried's 20.8% strikeout rate is underwhelming for fantasy managers, but he projects as an excellent source of both ratios and wins upon his return. Fried will likely need at least a few rehab starts before he's ready to return to the Yankees, so he's likely still multiple weeks away from his return at a minimum.

Max Fried Nearing Return to Mound Work?

New York Yankees starting pitcher Max Fried (elbow) is expected to throw from 120 feet this week and will also undergo another round of imaging to determine if he can start working off the mound, per Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News. Fried is working his way back from a bone bruise in his pitching elbow that led to him being placed on the 15-day injured list in mid-May. Across 61 2/3 innings (10 starts) before the injury, the veteran left-hander had recorded a 4-3 record with a 3.21 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and 50 strikeouts. Fried's 12.9% K-BB rate was his worst since his rookie season in 2017, but opponents had hit just .196 with one home run against him. The 32-year-old appears to be making progress, but he likely remains at least a month or so away from returning to the big leagues. Fantasy managers should be looking for ways to stash Fried, unless he suffers a setback.

Max Fried to Ramp Up Throwing Program

New York Yankees starting pitcher Max Fried (elbow) has been cleared to ramp up his throwing program. Fried has been throwing off flat-ground at 75 feet. He'll look to extend that to 90 feet and beyond over the next week. The southpaw is also expected to undergo imaging at some point next week. If everything looks good, Fried could progress to throwing bullpen sessions in the near future. The 32-year-old is making progress, but isn't close to rejoining the Yankees rotation. Given his current progress, Fried is likely going to be sidelined until around the All-Star break. He has been sidelined since the middle of May due to a bone bruise on his left elbow. Fantasy managers will hopefully be able to get something out of Fried during the second half of the season.

Max Fried Plays Catch on Monday, Not Ready to Ramp Up

New York Yankees left-hander Max Fried (elbow) played catch on Monday for the first time since being shut down with a left-elbow injury, according to Greg Joyce of the New York Post. However, manager Aaron Boone said not to read too much into that because it doesn't mean that Fried is ready to ramp up his throwing program. "There's nothing really that would say he can start the ramp-up process yet," Boone said after Fried underwent follow-up imaging. In a best-case scenario, the 32-year-old southpaw might be able to rejoin the Yankees' starting rotation by mid-June, but the end of June or beginning of July might be more realistic. The former seventh overall pick by the San Diego Padres in 2012 is currently on the 15-day injured list, but he must be stashed in all fantasy baseball leagues. Before getting hurt, Fried went 4-3 with a 3.21 ERA and 1.00 WHIP with 50 strikeouts and 19 walks in 61 2/3 innings across his 10 starts. He has been an All-Star in three of his last four seasons and is a fantasy ace when he's healthy.

Max Fried Heading to Injured List With Elbow Bone Bruise

After undergoing an MRI exam and a CT scan on Thursday, New York Yankees left-hander Max Fried (elbow) will be placed on the 15-day injured list after initial findings showed a left-elbow bone bruise, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. Repeat imaging will be taken again in a few weeks (or when asymptomatic) to further determine when Fried can resume throwing. We'll have a more specific timetable on his potential return at that time. The 32-year-old southpaw avoided any structural damage, but a quick return from the IL should not be expected, and depending on when he can resume throwing, Fried may be fighting an uphill battle to return before the All-Star break in mid-July. It's a big injury blow for the Yankees' pitching staff and for fantasy managers, as the three-time All-Star has been a must-start in all lineups. Until right-hander Gerrit Cole (elbow) can make his season debut, the Yankees may turn to pitching prospect Elmer Rodriguez in the short term. Fried must be stashed in an IL spot in all fantasy leagues.

Max Fried Dealing With Left Elbow Posterior Soreness

Updating a previous report, New York Yankees left-hander Max Fried (elbow) left his start early on Wednesday against the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards with left elbow posterior soreness, the team announced. Fried will be looked at by team physician Dr. Chris Ahmad and will undergo imaging in New York on Thursday. The 32-year-old three-time All-Star just did not look like himself before leaving, allowing five hits and three earned runs while walking one and striking out two in three frames before departing. He threw 61 pitches in the outing. It's unclear exactly how serious Fried's injury is, but it doesn't sound good. At the very least, fantasy managers should expect Fried to miss a couple of starts going forward. The good news for the Yankees is that former Cy Young winner, right-hander Gerrit Cole (elbow), is nearing a return to the team's starting rotation and could be ready in a couple of weeks. Fried, who has been an All-Star in each of the last two seasons, is a must-start in fantasy lineups when he's healthy, so he should be stashed everywhere if he lands on the injured list. Stay tuned for an update on him on Thursday.

Max Fried Exits After Just Three Innings

New York Yankees starting pitcher Max Fried (undisclosed) exited early during Wednesday's start against the Baltimore Orioles. He lasted just three innings but threw a total of 61 pitches. Bryan Hoch of MLB.com speculated that Fried could be dealing with a blister because his command was shaky. The star pitcher had thrown just 55.7% strikes before departing, and he was hit around for three runs on five hits. Fried has dealt with blisters in the past, but there wasn't any clear indication that he was experiencing discomfort until he exited on Wednesday afternoon. Presumably, the Yankees will provide an update on his status this afternoon or evening. Fans and fantasy managers will hope for good news, as losing Fried for any period of time is problematic. The 32-year-old southpaw entered today with an impressive 2.73 FIP, 7.36 K/9, 2.76 BB/9, and 0.15 HR/9 across nine starts.

Max Fried Looks to Keep Scoreless Streak Alive

New York Yankees starting pitcher Max Fried has been on another level lately. The southpaw had a rough outing against the Los Angeles Angels on April 16 and has been untouchable since then. Over his last two starts, Fried has thrown 14 straight scoreless innings with 14 strikeouts and four walks. He'll look to keep up the excellent work on the mound during Sunday's start against the Baltimore Orioles. So far this season, Fried owns a 2.09 ERA, 0.80 WHIP, and a 37/12 K:BB ratio across 47.1 innings of work. Fried needs to be rostered and started in all fantasy formats.
