Alex Wilson News

Alex Wilson To Be Released

Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Alex Wilson will be released by the team on Friday, among other cuts. Wilson spent 2015-2018 with the Tigers. He posted a 3.36 ERA in 2018 while appearing in 59 games. The left-hander spent 2019 with the Milwaukee Brewers and recorded a disappointing 9.53 ERA before ultimately returning to the Tigers in the offseason. Wilson shouldn't have been on any fantasy radars for the 2020 season and won't be fantasy relevant at all if he latches on with another team before the regular season begins in late July.

Alex Wilson Signs With Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers signed free-agent reliever Alex Wilson to help bolster their bullpen. The Brewers have lost Jeremy Jeffress and Corey Knebel recently and are in desperate need for some solid arms. Wilson posted a 3.36 ERA with a 1.05 WHIP last year with the Tigers and could be a big help for the Brewers and their decimated bullpen. Wilson doesn't figure to be in the mix for saves at the moment with Josh Hader still healthy and the possibility of a Craig Kimbrel signing, so he is not a must add by any means.

Alex Wilson Agrees With Indians

The Cleveland Indians agreed to a minor league deal with free-agent relief pitcher Alex Wilson on Friday, according to a league source. He will make $1.25 million if he makes the big league roster and can earn an extra $750,000 in performance bonuses. Wilson had a 3.36 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 6.3 K/9 in 61 2/3 innings for Detroit last year and has only four saves in his six years in the big leagues. He'll merely be bullpen depth if he makes the Tribe's roster. Wilson's career 6.0 K/9 for a reliever makes him unattractive to fantasy owners, even in the unlikely event he's pitching the ninth inning for the Indians at any point.

Tigers Non-Tender Alex Wilson

The Detroit Tigers non-tendered relief pitcher Alex Wilson on Friday, making him a free agent. This one came as a surprise, as the right-hander has been the most durable and consistent reliever for the team in the last four seasons. He posted a 3.36 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 59 outings in 2018, and he has made more than 59 appearances in four straight seasons. Wilson will surely generate interest on the free-agent market, but he has very little fantasy value.

Alex Wilson Extends Scoreless Inning Streak

Detroit Tigers reliever Alex Wilson came into the seventh inning Sunday against the White Sox and tossed 1 1/3 innings of scoreless ball, extending his scoreless innings streak to 11 innings over his last 10 appearances. Wilson spent about a month on the disabled list earlier this season with a tear in his plantar fascia, but since returning from the DL he's shown no signs of discomfort. Wilson is a holds candidate, but he doesn't strike many batters out, which limits his value in non-holds formats.

Alex Wilson Activated, Ronny Rodriguez Demoted

The Detroit Tigers activated reliever Alex Wilson (foot) Thursday ahead of their matchup with the Boston Red Sox. Wilson had been on the shelf since early May with a 95 percent tear in his left plantar fascia, and it's been a much longer recovery process than his status on the 10-day disabled list originally suggested. In a subsequent move, utility man Ronny Rodriguez was sent back down to Triple-A, having accrued just two hits in his big league action. Neither move has significant fantasy impact, although Wilson is a candidate in holds leagues.

Alex Wilson To Be Activated From DL on Thursday

Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Alex Wilson (foot) will be activated from the disabled list on Thursday, according to Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire. The Tigers primary setup man will resume his usual role after being out since May 7 with plantar fasciitis in his left foot. Wilson carries a 4.50 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 16 strikeouts over 20 innings in 2018 and holds little value among fantasy circles unless you're in a holds league.

Alex Wilson Pitches Well in Rehab Appearance

Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Alex Wilson (foot) made a rehab appearance for the Toledo Mud Hens, the Detroit Tigers Triple-A affiliate, and he pitched quite well in his 1 1/3 innings of work. He struck out two batters and allowed a walk while throwing 19 of his 26 pitches for strikes. Upon his return, Wilson has value in leagues that value holds and could challenge closer Shane Greene for saves later on.

Alex Wilson Will Make Rehab Appearance Tuesday

Detroit Tigers reliever Alex Wilson (foot) will make a rehab appearance on Tuesday with Triple-A Toledo. The right-hander has been dealing with a right plantar fascia strain that limited his ability to run and plant on that foot. Assuming all goes well, he could rejoin the Tigers' bullpen in short order. He owns a 4.50 ERA on the year with 16 strikeouts and is a candidate for holds, but not much else.

Alex Wilson Threw on Monday

Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Alex Wilson (foot) ran on the field and threw off flat ground on Monday. The next step will likely be a few bullpen sessions in the coming days. Wilson would go on a rehab assignment after that and hopefully return to the Tigers bullpen soon. He's been making good progress and could be back with Detroit in the next few weeks. He's not worth owning right now, but could play an important role in the Tigers bullpen at some point this season.
