Detroit Tigers infielder Alexi Amarista was released, according to Evan Woodbery of MLive. Amarista was fighting for a roster spot for the Tigers, but he only hit .238 in 41 plate appearances this Spring. Woodbery says that the team may be looking at a four-man bench and that it appears to be set. John Hicks, Victor Reyes, Niko Goodrum, and JaCoby Jones should all make the team, per Woodbery.
The Detroit Tigers signed free-agent infielder Alexi Amarista to a minor league deal Tuesday, according to a source. The Little Ninja is mainly useful for his positional versatility, and he figures to perform as a super-utility player for the rebuilding Tigers. Amarista hit just .238 with the Rockies in 2017 in 96 games, and he doesn't have much power to speak of at all. Because his playing time is likely to be sporadic on a weak team, Amarista won't be much more than a depth player in deep AL-only leagues.
The Colorado Rockies declined a $2.5 million club option for 2018 on infielder Alexi Amarista, instead giving him a $150,000 buyout. Amarista is a light-hitting utility infielder that batted just .238 with three homers and 19 RBI in 168 at-bats for Colorado in 2017. He'll likely only receive minor league deals on the open market and won't be on the fantasy radar next draft season.
After placing outfielder Carlos Gonzalez (shoulder) on the 10-day disabled list prior to Monday's game, the Colorado Rockies will give infielder/outfielder Alexi Amarista a shot in right field. The utilityman is known more for his defense but has hit well this year. He is sporting a .295 batting average for the season and will bat sixth tonight versus the Giants. With CarGo out, the assumption has been outfield prospect Raimel Tapia would get most of the at-bats. Bud Black has yet to name a permanent replacement for Gonzalez so we will have to wait and see who will get the majority of the work in right field. Tapia has high upside and is worth picking up in NL-Only leagues and deeper mixed leagues.
Colorado Rockies shortstop Alexi Amarista went 2-for-5 with two doubles, a run scored and two RBI on Saturday against the Reds. This solid game followed up his three-hit game on Friday night that included his hitting a homer and plating four runs. The utility man has largely been deployed as a pinch-hitter -- he had just 36 plate appearances over his first 19 games -- but with shortstop Trevor Story still on the mend and infielder Pat Valaika not running away with things, Amarista has stepped in and provided some sneaky pop for the Rox. The 28-year-old now owns a .347 average through 50 plate appearances this season but should return to the bench when Story returns this upcoming week. If there's a setback in Story's rehab, however, deeper NL-only owners could look to Amarista for some short-term relief.
