Allen Cordoba Will Be Slowed At The Beginning Of Camp
San Diego Padres outfielder Allen Cordoba will be slowed at the start of camp after a minor car accident a few days ago. It does not sound like anything serious, but the Padres want him to take it easy. Cordoba, 22, posted a weak .208/.282/.297 batting line over 227 plate appearances as a rookie in 2017. He will try to win a bench job in the spring.

San Diego Padres rookie outfielder Allen Cordoba was put in the leadoff spot the last couple of days with outfielder Manuel Margot on the disabled list. Cordoba picked up a single on Saturday, giving him six in the last four games. Cordoba is now slashing .301/.348/.446 with three homers and seven RBI in 83 at-bats. Cordoba has seen time at shortstop and in left field, depending on the team's needs. Given all the injuries to the Padres' outfielders, he will spend time in left for the time being but could stick at shortstop eventually if he keeps playing this way. Cordoba may be of interest to those in NL-only or deep mixed leagues.

Cordoba is a Rule 5 pick that is fighting to stay on the roster, but he's doing his best by filling in as a shortstop, left fielder and pinch hitter. He is hitting .263 with three home runs and six RBI in 57 at-bats. A former Cardinals prospect, Cordoba hit .362 in Rookie ball at the ripe age of 20 last season. He may not make an impact for fantasy teams this season, but he is a player to watch down the road.
