San Diego Padres outfielder Allen Cordoba suffered a concussion in his car accident last week. The young outfielder will be held out of activities at Padres camp in Arizona until he is completely symptom-free. This should not affect Cordoba's readiness for the opening of the 2018 regular season.
Allen Cordoba Will Be Slowed At The Beginning Of Camp
San Diego Padres outfielder Allen Cordoba will be slowed at the start of camp after a minor car accident a few days ago. It does not sound like anything serious, but the Padres want him to take it easy. Cordoba, 22, posted a weak .208/.282/.297 batting line over 227 plate appearances as a rookie in 2017. He will try to win a bench job in the spring.
Allen Cordoba Could Stick at Leadoff Spot, Batting .301
San Diego Padres rookie outfielder Allen Cordoba was put in the leadoff spot the last couple of days with outfielder Manuel Margot on the disabled list. Cordoba picked up a single on Saturday, giving him six in the last four games. Cordoba is now slashing .301/.348/.446 with three homers and seven RBI in 83 at-bats. Cordoba has seen time at shortstop and in left field, depending on the team's needs. Given all the injuries to the Padres' outfielders, he will spend time in left for the time being but could stick at shortstop eventually if he keeps playing this way. Cordoba may be of interest to those in NL-only or deep mixed leagues.
With San Diego Padres outfielder Manuel Margot (calf) out Thursday night, infielder/outfielder Allen Cordoba will lead off and start in left field. Outfielder Matt Szczur will shift over to center field. Cordoba has been off to a nice start this year. He is hitting .300 on the year with three home runs and seven RBI. He also has a .812 OPS. He is worth a look in daily leagues as the Padres face Mets pitcher Rafael Montero. Margot is listed day-to-day, so Cordoba may not be starting for long. He can remain a free agent in NL-only and mixed leagues, as he does not play every day.
Allen Cordoba Finding Ways to Contribute for Padres
San Diego Padres outfielder Allen Cordoba didn't register a hit on Thursday, but he drew a walk. That makes six straight starts in which he has reached base. Cordoba is a Rule 5 pick that is fighting to stay on the roster, but he's doing his best by filling in as a shortstop, left fielder and pinch hitter. He is hitting .263 with three home runs and six RBI in 57 at-bats. A former Cardinals prospect, Cordoba hit .362 in Rookie ball at the ripe age of 20 last season. He may not make an impact for fantasy teams this season, but he is a player to watch down the road.
