Padres Reach Minor-League Deal With Anderson Espinoza

The San Diego Padres reached a minor-league deal with starting pitcher Anderson Espinoza on Monday. The Padres' former No. 1 prospect underwent back-to-back Tommy John surgeries and did not pitch between 2017 and 2021. Espinoza made his big-league debut in 2022 with the Chicago Cubs, tossing 18 1/3 innings out of the bullpen with a 5.40 ERA. Now 24 years old, Espinoza will have to prove a great deal before warranting attention on fantasy radars, despite his former pedigree.

Anderson Espinoza Traded To Cubs

The Chicago Cubs acquired prospect pitcher Anderson Espinoza in exchange for outfielder Jake Marisnick. The 23-year-old Espinoza is a former top prospect whose career has been derailed by two Tommy John surgeries since 2016. Currently in High-A, the right-hander carries a 5.02 ERA over 28 frames. Scouted as a fireballer with three solid pitches, Espinoza's health is the more important factor as the Cubs are clearly reaching for upside. Due to durability questions, Espinoza is a probable bullpen candidate if he reaches the majors, diminishing his fantasy value.

Anderson Espinoza Progressing After Elbow Surgeries

San Diego Padres pitcher Anderson Espinoza(elbow) threw a simulated game last week, continuing his road to recovery. The 22-year-old former top prospect hasn't pitched since 2016 after he needed two Tommy John surgeries. Espinoza should be healthy following his 2019 procedure and forecasts as a bullpen weapon for the Friars if he shines in the minors this season. Prior to the injuries, the team's No. 13 prospect hit triple digits with his heater, demonstrating advanced control with three legitimate pitches. Having not pitched for four years, dynasty managers should temper expectations, but the positive development is encouraging nonetheless.

Anderson Espinoza Undergoes Second Tommy John Surgery

San Diego Padres pitching prospect Anderson Espinoza (elbow) underwent Tommy John surgery on Monday. The injury setback is a terrible break for the Padres No. 13 prospect, who will now need to rehabilitate from a second consecutive Tommy John surgery. Espinoza was acquired from the Boston Red Sox three years ago for current San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Drew Pomeranz and hasnt thrown in live action since 2016. Espinoza is still just 21 years old, so a comeback is possible, but this is awful news nonetheless for the young fireballer.
