Cardinals Sign Andrew Suarez To Minor-League Deal

The St. Louis Cardinals signed free-agent left-hander Andrew Suarez to a minor-league deal on Friday that includes a non-roster invitation to major-league spring training. The 30-year-old southpaw pitched in 56 games for the San Francisco Giants from 2018 to 2020 and was an All-Star in the Korean Baseball Organization in 2021. In his three seasons with the Giants, Suarez went 7-15 with a 4.66 ERA (4.60 FIP), 1.36 WHIP and 18.7 percent strikeout rate in 202 2/3 innings over 56 appearances (31 starts). He spent the 2022 season in Japan. Suarez will give the Cardinals both starting and relief depth, but there's a good chance he won't make the Opening Day roster out of spring training.

Andrew Suarez Sent Down As Giants Turnstile Continues

The San Francisco Giants optioned starting pitcher Andrew Suarez to Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday, and they recalled reliever Sam Coonrod from the River Cats in the corresponding move. Suarez was pounded for nine runs - seven earned - and nine hits with three walks over just four innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks in his most recent start. Coonrod had some success at Sacto, and he said it began when he started throwing his two-seamer to set up his slurve as a strikeout pitch. That helped him keep the ball down, vital at elevation in the Pacific Coast League. Coonrod is not someone to add in fantasy leagues, but monitor his progress for the pitching-starved Giants.

Andrew Suarez To Make Season Debut Monday

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Andrew Suarez will make first start of the season on Monday at home against the Atlanta Braves. Suarez spent the majority of the 2018 season in the Giants rotation, making 29 starts with lackluster results. Hes spent all of this season with Triple-A Sacramento, making six starts and posting a 6.33 ERA with 21 strikeouts in 27 innings. Even while working in a strong pitcher-friendly park in San Francisco, Suarez has not given any reason for optimism. This will push Shaun Andersons second major league start back to Tuesday.

Giants Don't Plan To Limit Andrew Suarez, Dereck Rodriguez

The San Francisco Giants don't plan to give either starting pitcher Andrew Suarez or Dereck Rodriguez a breather down the stretch with both pitchers set to exceed their career highs in innings pitched in a single season. If they made every start, youre looking at 180 innings for these guys, and thats where you would want to get them, manager Bruce Bochy said. Were comfortable not skipping them or having to back off right now. Now, that could change in a month if theyre showing signs that they could use a break, but theres no plan to back off either of them. Pitching coach Curt Young said both pitchers are scheduled for up to 13 starts in the second half, which would mean roughly 78 more innings for each. Both pitchers have been pleasant surprises for the Giants, with Rodriguez sporting a 2.89 ERA and Suarez with a 3.94 ERA. The team's plans could change if either pitcher shows signs of tiring down the stretch, but for now they will both continue to be acceptable streamers in deep mixed and NL-only affairs.

Andrew Suarez Will Start Sunday, Becomes An Intriguing Streamer

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Andrew Suarez will attempt to continue his dominance when he starts against the Athletics on Sunday. Suarez has been absolutely magnificent and is a huge reason why the injury-ridden Giants have been able to stay in contention. Suarez has a great curveball, and the lefty owns a 8.25 K/9 ratio in 2018. He has strung together six successful starts, and the Giants will depend on the young lefty on Sunday. Suarez is a great DFS or streaming option because of the stellar defense the Giants have been playing behind him and because of his recent success. He is a pitcher that should have a close eye attached to him, as the Giants are known for developing extremely successful young pitchers. If he is available, pick up Suarez and plug him into your lineup as the MLB finishes the first half of the season.

Andrew Suarez Goes Six Innings Monday

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Andrew Suarez went six innings on Monday versus the Chicago Cubs. Suarez allowed one run on three hits, four walks and five strikeouts. Suarez now holds a 3.75 ERA on the season and the four walks were the most he has allowed all season. Suarez will face an underrated Oakland Athletics offense on Sunday.

Andrew Suarez Underwhelming Again Wednesday

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Andrew Suarez allowed two runs on five hits and two walks over five innings Wednesday night against the Marlins. Suarez has now only reached the sixth inning three times the entire season. He has a high ERA and a pretty below-average strikeout rate, so you can leave him on the waiver wire, as he doesn't have much upside. He faces the Marlins again next Monday night and there's no reason to think it'll be better this time.

Andrew Suarez Hit Hard Again Tuesday

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Andrew Suarez was hit hard by the Astros on Tuesday night, giving up five earned runs in four innings off of seven hits and two walks. Suarez only struck out two batters in the game and after his last few starts, his ERA has ballooned up to 5.68. His next start comes Monday at Colorado in which he definitely should not be started. It's safe to drop Suarez for any flavor of the week pitchers on waivers.

Andrew Suarez Shaky In Loss To Reds Wednesday

San Francisco Giants pitcher Andrew Suarez gave up five runs (four earned) in six innings on Wednesday in a loss to the Reds. The stat line would indicate that Suarez had a bad outing, but most of the damage against him was done in the first inning. Suarez gave up five of his eight hits and all four earned runs in the first before settling down and going another five innings without allowing another earned run. That being said, it still wasn't a great look for the young left hander as his last two starts have ballooned his ERA to 4.88. Suarez will probably be on the waiver wire in the leagues he is owned now, and it's safe to leave him there especially with his next matchup coming at Houston.

Andrew Suarez Quiets Braves For First Win Of 2018

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Andrew Suarez pitched 5 1/3 innings on Sunday against the Braves, allowing just one unearned run and striking out six while earning the win for the Giants. The Braves have been the hottest team in the NL as of late, so the results are encouraging moving forward. With Johnny Cueto landing on the DL, Suarez seems to be the most likely to take over his spot in the rotation and is set to take on the Pirates on Friday night.
