Mets Sign Anthony Gose To Minor-League Contract

The New York Mets and left-handed pitcher Anthony Gose have agreed to a minor league contract that has an invite to Spring Training. Gose began his professional career as an outfield prospect with the Toronto Blue Jays but then switched positions and became a pitcher. Last summer in Triple-A, Gose held a solid 3.22 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP across 44 2/3 innings of relief. He tallied ten saves while striking out an impressive 59 batters. However, in the majors he has held a career 4.78 ERA and 1.34 WHIP across a small 32 inning sample size. The 34-year-old has flashed decent strikeout upside but has yet to take the next step in the major leagues. He will likely spend Spring Training competing for a spot in the New York bullpen.

Anthony Gose Re-Signs With Guardians

The Cleveland Guardians agreed to re-sign left-hander Anthony Gose (elbow) to a two-year minor-league deal on Thursday, according to sources. Gose continues to rehab after having Tommy John surgery in September, and he will not be able to play at all in 2023. The deal pays him $1 million per season if he's in the big leagues. The 32-year-old former outfielder went 3-0 for the Guardians in 2022 and posted a 4.71 ERA (5.06 FIP), a 1.38 WHIP, 28 strikeouts and 14 walks in 21 innings pitched in the big leagues over 22 relief appearances. He's obviously well off the fantasy radar and won't even pitch for Cleveland next season.

Anthony Gose Undergoes Tommy John Surgery

Cleveland Guardians left-hander Anthony Gose (elbow) underwent Tommy John surgery on Wednesday in Texas. He's expected to need 12 to 18 months to recover from the elbow reconstruction, so he's highly unlikely to pitch at all for Cleveland next season. Gose hasn't pitched for the Guardians since early July, and he had a 4.71 ERA (5.07 FIP), a 1.38 WHIP, 28 strikeouts and 14 walks in 21 relief innings this year. The 32-year-old southpaw is well off the fantasy baseball radar.

Anthony Gose Placed on Outright Waivers

Houston Astros Rule 5 pickAnthony Gose has been placed on outright waivers, per Jake Kaplan of The Athletic. If Gose clears waivers, the Astros would have to offer him back to the Texas Rangers. A converted outfielder, Gose only made one appearance in the Grapefruit League, walking all three of the hitters he faced. Despite a 100 mph fastball, the lefty didn't show enough progress for the defending World Series champs to continue giving him chances.
