Ariel Jurado Acquired By Mets, Joins Alternate Camp

Right-handed pitcher Ariel Jurado was a primetime prospect coming up through the Rangers organization, but after two lackluster big league seasons, the 24-year-old was designated for assignment, whereby the Mets claimed him Wednesday. Despite having 44 appearances (26 starts) to his resume, Jurado was reassigned to the teams alternate training site. Not much jumps off the page when it comes to the right-handers metrics, as he allowed 21 home runs in 122 innings last season en route to a 5.81 ERA. But New York is banking on him finding his rhythm, whereby he could become an option in the rotation down the line.

Ariel Jurado Pitches Six Scoreless Innings On Wednesday

Texas Rangers pitcher Ariel Jurado cruised through his outing in Wednesday's 3-0 victory over the Angels. Jurado entered the game in the second inning after opener Emmanuel Clase and went on to pitch six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and one walk while striking out one. Jurado had gone out for the first inning in his previous eight appearances, but was having little success. He'd earned losses in his previous four outings in August. Jurado has an uninspiring 15.2% strikeout rate on the year and ranks amongst the bottom 10% of the league in hard-hit rate (42.9%). He's a risky streaming option going forward and is best left on waivers.

Ariel Jurado Provides Length, Little Else In Loss

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Ariel Jurado had a weird night in Chicago as he allowed six runs but also threw an eight-inning complete game while taking the loss. Jurado allowed 10 hits and a walk but was efficient enough the Rangers left him in for eight innings. Unfortunately for fantasy owners, part of that efficiency was only racking up two strikeouts meaning there was very little fantasy value despite the long start. Jurado has had his moments this season but carries little value overall. He has a 5.48 ERA with a 5.06 FIP to match. He's especially struggled lately allowing 16 earned runs in his last three starts spanning only 13 2/3 innings. He's not a recommended play in his next start Wednesday at the Angels.

Ariel Jurado Pitches Well, But Takes Loss Wednesday

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Ariel Jurado allowed two runs in seven innings but got no offensive support and took the loss Wednesday. Jurado had pitched six shutout innings before a Jose Ramirez two-run-homer in the seventh inning gave Cleveland the only runs they would need on the afternoon. Despite the strong start, Jurado doesn't have much fantasy value. This start lowered his ERA to 4.74 which lines up with his .490 xFIP. He also doesn't rack up the strikeouts as his 16.9 strikeout rate is among the lowest in baseball. He's a decent streamer in AL-Only next Monday vs Toronto but can be left on waivers in most mixed leagues.

Ariel Jurado Goes Seven Strong Innings

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Ariel Jurado gave up three runs in seven innings and earned his sixth win of the season Thursday night in Oakland. Jurado gave up three hits and two walks while striking out six on 108 pitches. It was a nice bounce-back start for the 23-year-old right-hander who had given up five runs in each of his past two starts. Jurado has shown flashes at times this season but is too unreliable for fantasy owners to trust. He only generates swinging strikes at a 7.2 percent rate which has resulted in a well below average 17.1 percent strikeout rate. He'll try and build of this start next time out Wednesday at home against the Mariners.

Ariel Jurado Struggles Versus Houston

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Ariel Jurado allowed five runs in four innings against the Astros Sunday. Jurado allowed seven hits and walked four against only three strikeouts in the rough outing. Jurado has had some decent games this season, but they are too few and far between to be a usable fantasy option. His 16.9 percent strikeout rate is near the bottom of starting pitcher ranks and he gives up too much hard contact for someone who doesn't get the strikeouts. Jurado should be on waivers in virtually all leagues when he makes his next start next Saturday against the Astros again.

Ariel Jurado Pitches Seven Scoreless Innings

Texas Rangers pitcher Ariel Jurado cruised through Thursday's start against the Tigers, pitching seven innings and allowing six hits, one walk and no runs while striking out four. This was Jurado's longest outing of the year and his first time allowing fewer than two earned runs in a start. Jurado is now 5-3 with a 3.90 ERA and 1.34 WHIP on the year. While Jurado is a fine fill-in starter given the right matchup, like Thursday's favorable one against the Tigers, his 16.7% strikeout rate and 4.69 xFIP don't inspire a ton of confidence going forward. He should be owned in all 14+ leagues and AL-only leagues, but for more shallow leagues, he is fine to leave on waivers unless your team's desperate for pitching help. His next outing will be a home start against the Angels on Tuesday.

Ariel Jurado Turns In Quality Start

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Ariel Jurado allowed two earned runs, six hits and two walks with three strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings in a no-decision and quality start on Sunday against the Los Angeles Angels. He threw just 54 of his 94 pitches for strikes, but managed to limit the damage. However, the bullpen was an absolute train wreck, as Jeffrey Springs followed Jurado and allowed four earned runs and four hits without recording an out in 15 pitches to take the relief loss, and Kyle Dowdy allowed an unearned run with two wild pitches and an intentional walk while recording just two outs. Jurado will look for better relief from his teammates on Friday against the visiting Royals.

Ariel Jurado To Start Saturday Against Houston

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Ariel Jurado will be called up to start on Saturday against the Astros in place of Cole Hamels, who was traded to the Cubs. Jurado made one spot start for the Rangers earlier this year, giving up four earned runs and six hits in 4 2/3 innings in a loss to the White Sox. The right-hander also has a meager 5.1 K/9 in 16 starts for Double-A Frisco this year and is facing a tough matchup in Houston. You should avoid Jurado everywhere this weekend. Jurado isn't even among the team's top 30 prospects.

Ariel Jurado To Start Saturday

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Ariel Jurado will make his major league debut Saturday. Jurado will take the place of Cole Hamels, who has still not recovered from his neck stiffness. In 2018, Jurado has thrown 35 innings at Double-A and has a 2.57 ERA. The trouble with Jurado is there does not appear to be much upside. In his three seasons at Double-A, he has just 148 strikeouts in 235 2/3 innings. With this jump to the majors it would be a shock if he suddenly starts striking hitters out. Jurado has very little fantasy value at this point, and should be avoided outside of AL-only leagues.
