Asa Lacy Undergoes Tommy John Surgery Tuesday

Kansas City Royals starting pitching prospect Asa Lacy (elbow) announced on his Twitter page Tuesday that he had Tommy John surgery on his elbow. The 24-year-old, who was a former first-round pick, has been plagued with injuries throughout his career. He last pitched professionally in 2022 with Double-A Northwest Arkansas, managing just 20 innings pitched. It is another unfortunate setback for Lacy, whose inability to stay healthy has limited his fantasy value even in deeper dynasty leagues.

Asa Lacy Strikes Out Nine On Sunday

Kansas City Royals left-hander Asa Lacy, the No. 4 overall pick in 2020, struck out nine in four innings of one-hit, one-run baseball for High-A Quad Cities on Sunday. The 6-foot-4 also walked three hitters while throwing 46 of his 79 pitches for strikes. All nine of Lacy's whiffs came on swings and misses. Lacy has been adjusting to professional baseball, as he's sporting a a 5.40 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in 10 starts over 35 innings for Quad Cities this year, but he has struck out 58 batters (14.9 K/9). The strikeouts are nice, but he'll need to improve his command and control (28 walks, 7.2 BB/9) to reach his ceiling as a front-line starting pitcher for the Royals.
