Athletics
Oakland Athletics right-handed reliever Austin Adams (forearm) was scheduled to start a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas during the week of Sept. 9, but he was pulled back after experiencing a setback with his right-forearm tendinitis. Adams returned to Oakland on Sept. 12 to be re-evaluated by team doctors but still hadn't been seen as of Monday. At this point, it's unclear if Adams will pitch again for the A's in 2024. With the season winding down and the A's not in playoff contention, it would be a surprise if we saw the 33-year-old veteran back with Oakland before the end of September. If this is it for Adams in 2024, the former eighth-rounder will finish his first year in the Bay Area with a 1-2 record, 3.92 ERA (4.48 FIP), a 1.48 WHIP and a 53:23 K:BB in 41 1/3 innings out of the bullpen for the A's.

Austin Adams Nearing Rehab Assignment
Oakland Athletics right-handed reliever Austin Adams (forearm) threw to hitters on Friday and felt good, according to manager Mark Kotsay. If Adams feels good in the coming days, he could begin a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas. And if he doesn't suffer a setback on what is likely to be a short rehab assignment, Adams could rejoin Oakland's bullpen by sometime next week. The 33-year-old veteran previously threw a bullpen session on Tuesday as he attempts to return from right-forearm tendinitis. When the A's feel he's ready, Adams will return to a late-inning, high-leverage setup role in Oakland's big-league bullpen in front of lights-out closer Mason Miller. Adams is currently 1-2 on the year with a 3.92 ERA (4.49 FIP), a 1.48 WHIP, 53 strikeouts and 23 walks in 41 1/3 innings out of the bullpen.

Austin Adams Scheduled For Two More Bullpens
Oakland Athletics right-handed reliever Austin Adams (forearm) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Tuesday and another one on Friday. The team will wait to see how he comes out of each of those sessions before determining whether he'll need to go on a minor-league rehab assignment before coming off the injured list. Adams is attempting to return from right-forearm tendinitis that has kept him out since Aug. 13. Even if the 33-year-old veteran needs a rehab assignment, it will likely be a short one, which will allow him to return to Oakland's bullpen in short order. He's been a valuable setup man for the A's this year with 22 holds, a 3.92 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, 53 strikeouts and 23 walks in 41 1/3 innings in his first year in Oakland. Adams is only relevant to fantasy managers in deeper holds leagues when he's healthy.

A's Believe Austin Adams' Injury Is A Short-Term One
Oakland Athletics manager Mark Kotsay expects right-hander Austin Adams' (forearm) injury to be a short-term issue. Adams will be shut down from throwing for a few days before the A's set a more clear timeline for his return from the 15-day injured list. His placement on the IL was backdated to Aug. 15. The A's put the 33-year-old reliever on the IL on Sunday with right-forearm tendinitis, but it sounds like the team is hoping he'll be ready to rejoin the major-league bullpen when he's eligible to return. Dany Jimenez (oblique) came off the IL over the weekend to take Adams' spot in the bullpen. In his first year in Oakland, Adams has gone 1-2 with a 3.92 ERA, a 1.48 WHIP and a 53:23 K:BB while hitting a league-high 13 batters in his 41 1/3 innings of work. When he returns, he'll return to a late-inning setup role in front of star closer Mason Miller.

Oakland Athletics Acquire Reliever Austin Adams
The Oakland Athletics have acquired veteran reliever Austin Adams from the New York Mets in exchange for cash considerations. The 32-year-old was added to the Athletics' 40-man roster and in a corresponding move, Trevor Gott was placed on the 60-day IL after it was determined he would need Tommy John surgery. Adams made 24 appearances for the D-backs last season before an ankle injury ended his season, posting a 5.71 ERA and 1.38 WHIP over 17 1/3 IP. He had a nice 12:1 K:BB this spring for the Mets, although it went along with 5.68 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in six and one-third IP. He figures to pitch in middle relief and it's not a needle-mover for fantasy unless he's thrust into a more high-leverage role.

Austin Adams Designated For Assignment Tuesday
The New York Mets designated relief pitcher Austin Adams for assignment on Tuesday to make roster space for newly signed reliever Jake Diekman, per MLB's Anthony DiComo. The 32-year-old was signed by the Mets in November. While he pitched well last season with Triple-A Reno, Adams had a poor 5.71 ERA in 17 1/3 innings pitched with the Diamondbacks before suffering a fractured right ankle in early August, ending his season. Adams could still stay in the Mets' system if he were to clear waivers.

Austin Adams Signs One-Year Deal With Mets
Free-agent right-hander Austin Adams signed a one-year, major-league deal with the New York Mets on Thursday, according to a source. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Adams' 2023 season was cut short due to a fractured right ankle that he suffered in early August. The 32-year-old reliever wasn't all that good for the Arizona Diamondbacks before the injury, though, with a 5.71 ERA (3.72 FIP) and 1.38 WHIP with eight walks and 22 strikeouts in 17 1/3 innings pitched over 24 appearances out of the bullpen. Adams is a seven-year big-league veteran with stops in Washington, Seattle and San Diego before pitching for the Snakes in 2023. He has a career 4.17 ERA and 1.29 WHIP with 75 walks and 170 strikeouts in 114 1/3 innings since 2017. Adams will be battling for a relief role with the Mets in spring training in 2024.

Austin Adams Dealing With Forearm Tightness
San Diego Padres relief pitcher Austin Adams (forearm) felt some tightness in his right forearm during his appearance in this past Tuesday's game. He has been under evaluation from the team ever since and underwent an MRI. The team is currently awaiting a second opinion before making the diagnosis of his MRI public. The 30-year-old right-hander notched 11 holds for the Padres last year while pitching to a 4.10 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP. He earned a win in his first appearance this year and has pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings over two appearances.

Austin Adams And Pierce Johnson To Start Season On IL
San Diego Padres relievers Austin Adams (elbow) and Pierce Johnson (groin) will begin the season on the injured list. Both injuries are considered short term. Adams appeared in only one spring game on March 7 and forecasted as a middle reliever prior to the injury. The 29-year-old owns a phenomenal 38 percent strikeout rate in 42 career innings. Johnson last pitched on March 16 when he exited with groin tightness and also projected as a middle relief option for the Friars. Johnson, 29, impressed with a 2.70 ERA last season in 24 appearances. Even when they are deemed healthy, neither have a clear path to high-leverage situations and can be bypassed in fantasy.

Austin Nola, Austin Adams Dealt To Padres In Seven-Player Trade
The San Diego Padres acquired catcher Austin Nola and relievers Austin Adams (knee) and Dan Altavilla from the Seattle Mariners. In exchange, the Friars are sending No. 5 prospect outfielder Taylor Trammell, infielder Ty France, reliever Andres Munoz (elbow) and catcher Luis Torrens to the Pacific Northwest. Nola has broken out as a 30-year-old backstop, registering a .903 OPS, five homers and 34 runs-plus-RBI in 110 plate appearances. Hell share time behind the dish with newly-acquired Jason Castro and current starter Austin Hedges. Adams, 29, is recovering from a torn ACL but appears near activation. He registered a 3.94 ERA and 41 percent strikeout rate in 32 frames last season. Nolas fantasy stock could see a boost in a loaded offense but his playing time is uncertain. Adams may be a candidate for late-game situations once hes healthy and worth a stash in holds leagues. With a 7.71 ERA, Altavilla will likely pitch in middle relief and isnt a fantasy factor.
