Beau Brieske News
Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Beau Brieske recorded a two-inning save on Thursday, shutting down the Minnesota Twins in a 3-0 victory. Brieske didn't allow a baserunner and had no strikeouts. This is certainly an interesting development, as the Tigers' are in search of a ninth-inning option after Alex Lange's recent control issues got the better of him. Brieske has been great in a small sample size this year, pitching to a 2.08 ERA and 0.92 WHIP in 13 IP. All that being said, Jason Foley has been the Tigers' eighth-inning guy this year and may have just been getting some extra rest after pitching two of the previous three days. Keep an eye on this situation in deeper leagues for now.
Detroit Tigers rookie right-hander Beau Brieske (forearm) looked really good in his latest minor league rehab start for Triple-A Toledo on Friday night, giving up one run on three hits while striking out eight and walking none in 4 1/3 innings of work. He has given up three runs on eight hits while striking out 10 and walking two in his two rehab starts since landing on the injured list in mid-July with right forearm fatigue. There's a chance that Friday's outing was his last before rejoining Detroit's starting rotation at some point next week. In his first 15 big-league starts in 2022, the 24-year-old has gone 3-6 with a 4.19 ERA (4.97 FIP), A 1.20 WHIP and a 54:25 K:BB in 81 2/3 innings pitched.
The Detroit Tigers placed rookie right-hander Beau Brieske (forearm) on the 15-day injured list with right forearm soreness on Thursday and reinstated right-hander Jose Cisnero from the bereavement list in a corresponding move. Brieske's injured list stint is retroactive to July 18. The 24-year-old won't be shut down from throwing, and the Tigers are optimistic that he'll only miss a couple turns through the starting rotation. Brieske had three straight quality starts before the All-Star break and went 3-6 with a 4.19 ERA and 1.20 WHIP while striking out 54 and walking 25 in 81 2/3 innings over 15 starts in the first half of his first big-league season. With a possible short IL stint, fantasy managers should hang onto Brieske in deeper leagues if they have the roster space.
