The Kansas City Royals officially assigned outfielder Billy Burns to the minors on Sunday. Burns isn't expected to play an active role with the team this season unless a variety of injuries occur, but his speed means he could see a call-up to act as a pinch runner and fourth outfielder. Owners in deep or AL-only leagues should keep an eye on him if a spate of injuries befalls Kansas City.
Kansas City Royals outfielder Billy Burns has been recalled to the big leagues in the corresponding move with the demotion of outfielder Jorge Soler. Burns likely won't see a lot of playing time -- the same problem Soler was having -- but Burns offers a different skill set. Namely, he provides late-game speed that can be used as a pinch runner. Burns has accumulated 36 major league stolen bases in 837 at-bats, and he had multiple 50-plus steal seasons in the minors. He won't have much value in most leagues, but any owners in deep or AL-only leagues desperate for speed could take a waiver on Burns.
