Brandon Lowe Remains a Strong Source of Power

Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman Brandon Lowe didn't get an All-Star nod, despite being well deserving of one. The 32-year-old is coming off a strong first half with the Pirates. Through 90 games, Lowe is slashing .246/.316/.487 with 21 home runs and 64 RBI. He smacked 31 long balls last season and has a good chance of surpassing that this season. Outside of the power, Lowe isn't offering a ton of upside to fantasy managers. The veteran slugger doesn't hit for average, walk much or steal bases at a high rate. Fantasy managers looking for help in the power department should hang onto Lowe, but he could be an interesting sell-high candidate.

Brandon Lowe on the Bench Due to Knee Injury

Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman Brandon Lowe (knee) is not in the starting lineup for the team's series finale on Sunday in Atlanta against the Braves, according to MLB.com. Nick Gonzales will start at the keystone and is hitting second against right-hander Bryce Elder. Lowe is out after fouling a ball off his right knee in the ninth inning of Saturday's game at Truist Park. Thankfully, a CT scan after the game ruled out a fractured kneecap, which is something he suffered to the same knee back in September of 2023. Even with an off day coming on Monday for Pittsburgh, fantasy managers shouldn't assume that Lowe will be back in the starting nine for Tuesday's game back in the Steel City against the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers. The 31-year-old left-handed-hitting second baseman is hitting just .249 (57-for-229) in his first year in Pittsburgh, but he has contributed plenty of counting stats for fantasy managers, producing 15 home runs, 41 RBI, and 40 runs scored across his 59 games and 261 plate appearances in his first year with the Bucs.

Brandon Lowe has Two-Homer Game in Loss to Phillies

Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman Brandon Lowe did his best to help his team against the visiting Philadelphia Phillies at PNC Park on Friday, but it was not enough in a 10-inning, 11-9 loss. Lowe went 2-for-5 at the plate with two home runs, three RBI, and two strikeouts to raise his season average to .252 and his OPS to .915. Lowe now has four home runs in 12 games in May and 12 home runs overall in 39 games to begin his first year in the Steel City with the Bucs. The veteran left-handed-hitting second baseman came into Friday's series opener with a .247/.351/.527 slash line, an .878 OPS, 28 RBI, and 24 runs scored in 171 total plate appearances. The two-time All-Star reached the 30-homer mark for the second time in 2025 in his final year with the Tampa Bay Rays, and he's on pace to get there again in 2026 if he can stay healthy. Lowe brings above-average pop to the second base position for fantasy managers, but he also has a lengthy injury history. So far, he's been an excellent value pick for fantasy managers.

Brandon Lowe Back From Knee Injury on Wednesday

Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman Brandon Lowe (knee) and first baseman Spencer Horwitz (neck) are both in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game in Texas against the Rangers and right-hander Jack Leiter, according to MLB.com. Lowe is starting at second base and batting second, while Horwitz is at first and batting seventh against Leiter. The left-handed-hitting Lowe didn't play in Tuesday's loss to the Rangers due to left-knee discomfort, and Horwitz was scratched from Tuesday's lineup due to neck discomfort. Neither injury proved to be very serious. The 31-year-old Lowe has gotten off to a pretty nice start in 2026 in his first year in Pittsburgh, slashing .267/.375/.600 with a .975 OPS, seven long balls, 18 RBI, and 12 runs scored in 19 games across 88 plate appearances. For a second baseman in fantasy, he provides a nice power floor that comes with durability concerns. Both Lowe and Horwitz are batting .500 in just two career at-bats apiece against Leiter.

Brandon Lowe is Day-to-Day with Knee Issue

Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman Brandon Lowe (knee) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Texas Rangers. It's unclear when Lowe suffered the injury, but he'll miss his second straight game due to left knee discomfort. Pirates manager Don Kelly said Lowe is trending in the right direction and is hopefully available to come off the bench on Tuesday. Barring any setbacks, it doesn't sound like Lowe will require a trip to the Injured List. Nick Gonzales will bat seventh and cover second base against right-hander Kumar Rocker on Tuesday. Fantasy managers should check back on Wednesday for another update on Lowe.

Brandon Lowe Stays Hot in Monday's Blowout Win Over Nationals

Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman Brandon Lowe stayed red-hot at the plate in Monday's 16-5 blowout victory over the visiting Washington Nationals at PNC Park. Lowe finished the game 3-for-5 at the plate with another home run, five RBI, and two runs scored out of the two-hole in the lineup. He had a three-run homer, his third in the last two days, and drove in five runs for the second consecutive game. It's safe to say that Lowe is locked in at the plate right now in his first year in the Steel City. After Monday's strong performance, the 31-year-old veteran infielder is hitting .278 (15-for-54) with six home runs and 14 RBI in 14 games played. This isn't unheard of from Lowe, as the two-time All-Star has two 30-homer seasons in his eight years in the big leagues (all with the Tampa Bay Rays). Lowe has been hit or miss in fantasy because of his inability to stay healthy consistently, but his power at the keystone is well-documented and is still going strong in Year 9. Stick with him in fantasy lineups while he's hot.

Brandon Lowe Hits Two Home Runs on Opening Day

Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman Brandon Lowe had a really nice debut with the Bucs in an 11-7 Opening Day loss to the New York Mets on Thursday, going 2-for-4 with two solo home runs and three RBI. Both of his home runs came off new Mets right-hander Freddy Peralta. It's nice to see for Lowe, who hit just 6-for-30 (.200) with no homers or RBI, six walks, and 12 strikeouts in 36 plate appearances over 13 Grapefruit League games in spring training. There's still a lot to like about the left-handed pop that Lowe can provide at the second base position, especially if he continues to hit near the top of the Pirates' batting order. However, the drawbacks are that Lowe is very injury-prone and that he has never hit lefties well (.695 career OPS). He's coming off his second career 30-homer season in 2025, though, and he's had at least 21 long balls in each of the last three seasons. The two-time All-Star's .326 career on-base percentage doesn't scream two-hole hitter.

Brandon Lowe Back in Action in Grapefruit League on Saturday

Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman Brandon Lowe (back) is starting at second base and batting second on Saturday in the Grapefruit League game against the Baltimore Orioles. Lowe was scratched as a precaution from Wednesday's spring training game, but the 31-year-old veteran is back on the field this weekend as he prepares to start his first season in Pittsburgh. The Tampa Bay Rays sent the left-handed-hitting second baseman to the Steel City in December as part of a three-team deal. Lowe will give the Bucs more power upside at the keystone in 2026, and he's coming off his second All-Star season in 2025, in which he slashed .256/.307/.477 with 31 home runs, 83 RBI, 79 runs, and three steals in 553 plate appearances over 134 games played. He'll be the team's everyday second baseman, and he offers 30-homer potential despite carrying plenty of risk and a low batting-average floor. Right now, RotoBaller has Lowe ranked just inside the top 15 fantasy second basemen for the 2026 campaign.

Brandon Lowe Scratched on Wednesday Due to Lower-Body Tightness

Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman Brandon Lowe (lower body) was removed from the team's lineup for its Spring Training game on Wednesday due to lower body tightness, per DK Pittsburgh Sports. Lowe was originally scheduled to bat second and play second base against the Baltimore Orioles, but is now expected to go through a normal practice session at the team's Spring Training facility. Injuries have been a persistent issue throughout Lowe's time in the big leagues, as he's cracked 600 plate appearances just once in eight MLB seasons. Pittsburgh may be simply being overly cautious with the veteran infielder, as the Pirates traded for Lowe this past offseason and he projects as a key hitter in the middle of the team's lineup. Across 553 plate appearances with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2025, Lowe hit .256 with 31 home runs, 83 RBI, 79 runs scored, and three stolen bases. Still, any injury situation for Lowe warrants attention from fantasy managers.

Brandon Lowe Could Be Poised for Banner Year in Pittsburgh

In one of their bigger moves this winter, the Pittsburgh Pirates acquired long-time Tampa Bay Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe this offseason. Lowe has struggled to consistently stay healthy throughout his career, as he's reached 600 plate appearances just once in eight big league seasons. However, he was productive in 2025, hitting .256/.307/.477 with 31 home runs, 83 RBI, 79 runs scored, and three stolen bases. Another reason for the lefty-swinging Lowe's low plate appearance totals is his career splits against same-handed pitching, which has caused him to lose playing time in the past. Across 695 career plate appearances against lefties, Lowe owns a .695 OPS with a 32.4% strikeout rate. Now in Pittsburgh, Lowe may be given more of an opportunity to play against lefties, which could help his counting stats, but may cause his overall batting average to suffer. Still, with an average draft position of pick 172, Lowe could outperform his draft-day cost in a true everyday role with the Pirates.
