The Cincinnati Reds re-signed right-hander Brett Kennedy to a minor-league deal. Kennedy pitched for his second different team in the majors in 2023 when he made five appearances (two starts) for the Reds this past season. In 18 innings, he had a 6.50 ERA (4.64 FIP) and 1.44 WHIP while walking seven and striking out nine. In his big-league debut back in 2018 for the San Diego Padres, Kennedy allowed 20 earned runs on 36 hits (six home runs) while walking 12 and striking out 18 in 26 2/3 frames over his six starts. The 29-year-old had a 4.81 ERA in 17 appearances (16 starts) for Triple-A Louisville in 2023. Kennedy will most likely open up the 2024 season back on the farm for the Reds as right-handed pitching depth.

The 28-year-old hurler posted a 3.71 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, 12 walks and 37 strikeouts in 43 2/3 innings over eight starts at Louisville before getting the call-up to Cincinnati this week. It will be a solid matchup for Kennedy against the last-place Nats, but he'll still only be a streaming option for the absolute desperate fantasy managers on Tuesday's slate.

Kennedy isnt high on the Padres prospect list but will compete for a rotation spot next season. He can be ignored in fantasy.

Kennedy endured a nightmare start to his career with a six-run first inning, including surrendering back-to-back-to-back homers. Encouragingly, he settled down to complete four total innings without conceding any more damage. The 24-year-old fanned three and walked none in the outing. Despite the forgettable debut, Kennedy is sure to get another opportunity with the rebuilding Padres. Hell likely get the nod next week against the Los Angeles Angels. Hes not an advisable fantasy option until he can post a few stronger performances.
The San Diego Padres have purchased the contract of starting pitcher Brett Kennedy from the minors. He will take the spot of Tyson Ross, who was claimed off waivers by the Cardinals, and make his major league debut in a start against the Brewers on Wednesday. The right-hander deserved the promotion, going 10-0 with a 2.72 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 80 strikeouts in 89 1/3 innings over 16 starts at Triple-A El Paso. Kennedy could be intriguing in NL-only formats if he sticks in the rotation, but he should be avoided against a tough Milwaukee lineup.
