The Chicago White Sox outrighted four players off the 40-man roster Friday. Outfielder Brian Goodwin and pitchers Evan Marshall, Jimmy Cordero, and Jace Fry all cleared waivers and are now free agents. Pitcher Anderson Severino was added to the 40-man roster in a corresponding move. Among those players, only Goodwin was fantasy-relevant at any point in the 2021 season, slashing .221/.319/.374 with eight homers, one steal, 29 RBI, and 33 runs scored in 235 at-bats while filling in for the injured Luis Robert and Eloy Jimenez. He should not be selected in 2022 fantasy drafts, but he could end up being a short-term piece off the waiver wire once again.
Brian Goodwin Lands On Injured List With Back Spasms
The Chicago White Sox placed outfielder Brian Goodwin (back) on the 10-day injured list on Sunday. The move is retroactive to September 24. Goodwin is dealing with lower back spasms. Due to the timing of the move, he is ineligible to return from the injured list during the regular season. The White Sox called up relief pitcher Matt Foster to fill his roster spot. The 30-year-old Goodwin slashed .221/.319/.374 with eight home runs, 29 RBI and 33 runs over 72 games this year. He had been operating as a reserve outfielder lately as the team has a fully healthy outfield.
Chicago White Sox outfielder Brian Goodwin went 1-for-3 with a walk, home run and three RBI in Sunday's blowout victory versus the Chicago Cubs. Goodwin sent a two-run home run to the bleachers off of Kyle Hendricks in the bottom of the second inning to extend the White Sox lead 3-0. The veteran has been having a solid year for the Pale Hose in a reserve role and is now hitting .230 with eight home runs and 25 RBI. He can be ignored in all formats.
Chicago White Sox outfielder Brian Goodwin continues to swing a hot bat this week and played the hero in Friday's victory versus the Chicago Cubs. Goodwin didn't start the game, but came in as a pinch-runner for outfielder Eloy Jimenez in the top of the sixth inning. Goodwin would then open the top of the tenth inning at the plate and crushed a two-run homer off of Manuel Rodriguez. Goodwin has been swinging a hot bat over the last couple of games and has now homered in three of his last four games. Despite the recent power display, the veteran doesn't see everyday playing time and should see even less playing time with outfielder Luis Robert (hip) inching towards his return to the White Sox. Goodwin's best value is as a DFS option.
Chicago White Sox outfielder Brian Goodwin played the role of hero in Sunday's victory versus the Cleveland Indians. Goodwin went 1-for-3 with two runs, one walk and a solo home run. Goodwin's home run was a walk-off homer against Nick Wittgren and it would be his second homer in as many days. Goodwin has been in the lineup with outfielder Eloy Jimenez (groin) being sidelined for four straight games. When Jimenez is healthy, Goodwin will see a decrease of playing time and that makes him expendable in all formats. The veteran is now hitting .248 with six home runs and 19 RBI.
Chicago White Sox outfielder Brian Goodwin went 1-for-3 with two runs, two walks and a solo home run in Saturday's loss versus the Cleveland Indians. Goodwin was struggling entering the contest, but has been playing with outfielder Eloy Jimenez (groin) banged up. Goodwin came through and not only with his home run, but he also worked a walk against James Karinchak to open the bottom of the eighth inning and would score when fellow outfielder Adam Engel hit a two-run home run as the next batter. Despite the nice night of work, Goodwin doesn't get enough playing time to make an impact for managers and can remain on the waiver wire. He is now hitting .246 with five home runs and 18 RBI.
Chicago White Sox outfielder Brian Goodwin continued his impressive season by going 4-for-5 with two runs, three RBI and a solo home run on Saturday versus the Baltimore Orioles. The veteran made his debut with the White Sox on June 12 and he has done nothing but produce. Goodwin has become a regular for the White Sox and is hitting .282 with four home runs and 15 RBI in 85 at-bats. The outfielder should eventually slow down, but he is worth a look in deeper mixed leagues at the moment.
Chicago White Sox outfielder Brian Goodwin stayed hot by going 2-for-4 with a walk and solo home run in Thursday's victory versus the Minnesota Twins. Goodwin has now gone yard in two consecutive games. Goodwin was promoted to the White Sox on June 10 and he has carved out a nice role in the lineup during that time. The veteran is now hitting a respectable .268 with three home runs and eight RBI. He is worth monitoring in AL-only and deeper mixed leagues.
Chicago White Sox outfielder Brian Goodwin went 1-for-3 with a walk, two runs and a solo home run in Wednesday's victory versus the Minnesota Twins. The home run would be his second of the season. The veteran was promoted on June 10 to the active roster and he has been a fixture in lineup for the White Sox since then. Goodwin is now hitting .250 with two home runs and seven RBI. He is worth a look in deeper AL-only leagues, but doesn't hold too much value at the time.
The Chicago White Sox agreed to a minor league deal with outfielder Brian Goodwin on Tuesday. The veteran Goodwin was non-tendered by the Cincinnati Reds after last season and latched on with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He hit just .229/.317/.689 with a homer, six RBI and two stolen bases in 41 plate appearances this spring with the Bucs. The White Sox are now without both Eloy Jimenez and Luis Robert in the outfield, so Goodwin will give the Pale Hose a little more organizational depth there. The 30-year-old is a career .250/.317/.455 hitter in five big league seasons, and he is unlikely to make much of an impact if he gets the call up to the major leagues. Billy Hamilton should now see regular playing time in center field with Robert out for 12 to 16 weeks. He's a speed asset in mixed leagues but won't help much with his bat.
