New York Yankees reliever Chad Bettis announced his retirement after a seven-year major league career. Bettis spent his entire MLB playing career with the Rockies before joining the Yankees over the offseason but has missed significant time with injuries and cancer over the past few seasons. Bettiss retirement shouldnt have too much on an effect on the fantasy values of Yankee pitchers, but roster-bubble players like Tyler Lyons should have an easier time finding playing time with Bettis retired.
Colorado Rockies relief pitcher Chad Bettis has lost whatever touch he had, and the Dodgers torched him for six earned runs and the loss on Sunday. Bettis was called in to pitch the sixth inning with a one-run lead, but by the time he was done, LA had a three run lead and the bases were loaded. Jesus Tinoco would allow two more to score, but all six were credited to Bettis. Bettis has allowed earned runs in five of his last six outings, causing him to stick out as bad even when surrounded by the worst bullpen in baseball. It wouldn't be surprising to see Bettis banished to the IL or the minors, but Colorado's bullpen woes may allow him to keep the job a while longer. Either way, he certainly isn't worthy of being on any fantasy team of any kind.
In the newest chapter of the starter-turned-reliever story, Colorado Rockies former starter Chad Bettis threw his first relief inning of 2019 on Friday, and his team bailed him out. After a couple quick outs, Bettis gave up a pair of hits that resulted in the go-ahead run for Philadelphia in the top of the 12th inning, but Charlie Blackmon's walk-off shot to right-center in the bottom of the inning turned Bettis from likely loser to surprise winner. As with many similar stories, the thought is that moving Bettis to the bullpen will allow him to pick up some additional velocity on his pitches and make him more effective. While the latter part remains to be seen, the former proved to be true on Friday. Bettis averaged 94.2 MPH on his fastballs on Friday night after averaging just 88.7 MPH in his last start a week ago. Time will tell whether the rest of the experiment pans out.
Colorado Rockies pitcher Chad Bettis has been removed from the starting rotation now that Antonio Senzatela (heel) is back from the injured list. Starter Tyler Anderson (knee) is also working his way back to health and should rejoin the rotation soon. Bettis has been a disaster this year, sporting an 8.78 ERA, 2.10 WHIP and nine strikeouts in 13 1/3 innings over his three starts. He won't have any fantasy appeal pitching out of the bullpen.
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Chad Bettis cashed in on the chance to face the light-hitting Giants in the friendly confines of Oracle Park and was rewarded with a no-decision. Bettis had been demolished in both of his previous two outings, so the five-inning, two-run affair on Friday was easily his best start of the year, even if he didn't end up catching the win. Bettis should only really be a consideration in situations like this where he's getting to face a weak lineup in a pitcher-friendly park, so he should only be watched in deep leagues or when someone desperately needs a streamer. His home start against the Phillies next week does not fit the bill.
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Chad Bettis was thrashed by the Dodgers on Sunday, allowing five earned runs in just 2 2/3 innings. Bettis walked four, struck out zero, and was hard hit on just about every ball put in play. Bettis is a mediocre starter at best, and he looks absolutely lost on the mound right now. He should not be owned in any fantasy leagues until he can string together multiple strong outings in a row, and even then, he shouldn't be started against strong offensive squads like the Dodgers or at home against anyone.
Colorado Rockies manager Bud Black said pitcher Chad Bettis is the probable starter for Tuesday against the Phillies after the team pushed Tyler Anderson (shoulder) back. Bettis would be a bad option for those looking to stream, especially at Coors Field. The right-hander has a 5.18 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and weak 6.0 K/9 over 25 games (19 starts). He hasn't started a game since Aug. 12 and has a gross 5.42 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in his 19 starts this season.
The Colorado Rockies were excited to get starting pitcher Chad Bettis back on the mound, but they got thrashed by the Pirates while Bettis was lit up for nine earned runs in just 4 2/3 innings. Bettis got a bit lucky the first time through the order, drawing line drives that happened to go right to fielders from four different hitters in the first three innings. Unfortunately, everything started to come apart in the fourth inning and the wheels really fell off in the fifth as hit after hit piled up. The Rockies' rotation has been rolling while their bullpen has still struggled, so the option is certainly present for manager Bud Black if he decided to send Bettis to the pen. For now, no decisions have been announced.
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Chad Bettis (finger) will come off the disabled list and make the start on Tuesday against the Pirates at Coors Field. Bettis should be avoided like the plague in this start. Not only is he making his first start off the DL, but the Pirates have been hot and Bettis has an 8.75 ERA and 1.78 WHIP in seven starts at Coors Field this year.
As a team that suddenly has a plethora of starting pitchers that are performing well, the Colorado Rockies may be sending pitcher Chad Bettis to the bullpen when he returns from the disabled list. Bettis has been sidelined with a blister issue on his finger, but it seemed to be fine during his most recent Triple-A rehab outing and so he's joined the team on their current road trip. The team's bullpen woes have been well-noted and they probably don't want to rock the boat after just finishing up with their best team ERA for a single month in franchise history, so sending Bettis to the bullpen would make sense. It would obviously trash his value from a fantasy standpoint though, if anyone was pinning their hopes to a Colorado starting pitcher that is currently rocking a 5.10 ERA.
