Chris Gittens Placed On 10-Day Injured List

New York Yankees first baseman Chris Gittens (ankle) was placed on the 10-day injured list with a sprained right ankle Sunday. Gittens has been bitten by the injury bug during his latest stint with the Yankees, missing three games due to a sore Achilles, then rolling his ankle after stepping on a bat. He'll likely miss the minimum amount of time, though it's another blow to the Yankees' first base depth, a position where they've gotten virtually zero production this season. DJ LeMahieu should be expected to handle most of the starts at first base with Gittens sidelined.

Chris Gittens Exits Game With Apparent Injury

New York Yankees first baseman Chris Gittens exited Saturday's game with an apparent injury while running to first base, according to Pete Caldera of the Bergen Record. Gittens had been dealing with soreness in his Achilles tendon this past week, and there is concern now as he was seen limping into the dugout. Over 15 games this year, Gittens is hitting 4-for-32 with one home run and five RBI with a 13:7 K:BB ratio. There should be updates on his condition after the game, but given his lack of success at the plate, this injury is unlikely to have a significant impact in fantasy.

Chris Gittens Returns To Friday's Lineup

New York Yankees first baseman Chris Gittens (Achilles) is back in the lineup for Friday's game against the Red Sox. Gittens missed the last three games with a sore Achilles but is back at first base and will bat seventh against Red Sox lefty Eduardo Rodriguez. Gittens is 1-for-8 since being called up in mid-July, but Rodriguez has allowed 10 of his 14 home runs to righties, giving Gittens some cheap DFS appeal Friday.

Chris Gittens Remains Out Thursday

New York Yankees first baseman Chris Gittens (Achilles) remains out of the lineup Thursday against the Boston Red Sox. Gittens will miss his third straight game with an Achilles injury, though he is getting close to a return after appearing in Wednesday's night's game as a pinch-hitter. Rougned Odor and Tyler Wade have benefitted from Gittens' absence, as the former will make his sixth straight start with the latter in the lineup for the third consecutive contest. Odor is playing his way into consideration in season-long formats, having gone 4-for-12 with two homers, four RBI, and four runs scored over his last three games.

Chris Gittens Sitting Wednesday

New York Yankees first baseman Chris Gittens (Achilles) is taking a seat on the bench Wednesday. Gittens is dealing with a sore Achilles, which also kept him out of Tuesday's game. The 27-year-old has just three hits in 28 at-bats at the big league level this season, but his services have been needed due to the injuries to Luke Voit (knee). DJ LeMahieu will get the start at first base in Gittens' absence- though the real beneficiary is Rougned Odor, who will make his fifth straight start at second base. Odor makes for an upside DFS play against the Phillies' lackluster bullpen Wednesday night.

Chris Gittens Starting At First Base For Yankees

New York Yankees first baseman Chris Gittens is starting at first base and hitting seventh against Boston Red Sox left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez on Friday after being called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The Yankees are missing several key players and were forced to put Luke Voit on the injured list to begin the second half of the season, so Gittens could see regular playing time at the hot corner in the short term. Gittens had just two hits (one homer and four RBI) in 21 at-bats (0.95) earlier this year with the Bronx Bombers. The right-handed hitter had an impressive .360/.520/.720 slash line with seven home runs and 22 RBI in 23 games at Triple-A, though, and he might be worth a short-term pickup for those desperate fantasy managers in AL-only leagues.

Chris Gittens Optioned To Triple-A

New York Yankees first baseman Chris Gittens was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following Sunday's win over the Oakland Athletics. Gittens appeared in 10 games for the Yankees, going 2-for-18 with a home run and four RBI. By sending down Gittens, it seems like New York is making room on the roster for Luke Voit (oblique), who was expected to make his return at the beginning of the week.

Chris Gittens Plates Three Runs

New York Yankees first baseman Chris Gittens came up big as a pinch hitter in Thursday's 8-4 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. Manager Aaron Boone called on Gittens with runners on second and third in the seventh inning- and the slugging first baseman delivered. He ripped a 106 MPH single, scoring both runners, then later added a 100.4 MPH sacrifice fly. Gittens was 0-for-13 since being called up but is 2-for-5 with a homer and four RBI in his last two games played. Look for the Yankees to keep Gittens in the lineup Friday against the Oakland Athletics while he's hot. He's a low-cost DFS option for Friday's slate.

Chris Gittens Making Major League Debut Saturday

New York Yankees first baseman Chris Gittens is making his major league debut against the Boston Red Sox on Saturday. Gittens will start at first base and bat sixth against Red Sox lefty Eduardo Rodriguez. The 27-year-old posted a 1.440 OPS with a home run and three doubles in 25 plate appearances against southpaws at Triple-A Scranton this season.

Chris Gittens Called Up From Triple-A

New York Yankees first baseman Chris Gittens was called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre ahead of Saturday's contest against the Boston Red Sox. Gittens slashed .283/.486/.585 with four homers and 11 RBI in 18 games played for the RailRiders this season. The 27-year-old will likely be looked at as a short-term solution to the Yankees' first base problem, a position where they've gotten the least amount of production of any team in the big leagues. Gittens has hit lefties and righties equally well this season for the Yankees' Triple-A affiliate, so he could have a chance to earn some quality playing time in the Bronx.
