Chris Heston Faces Plenty Of Competition To Make Giants Roster

After returning to the San Francisco Giants in the offseason, starting pitcher Chris Heston is likely to begin the season in Triple-A. Heston spent the majority of 2017 in the minor leagues for the Dodgers, Mariners and Twins. The Giants currently have Derek Holland, Andrew Suarez, Tyler Beede, Chris Stratton and Ty Blach ahead of Heston on the depth chart. Heston is unlikely to have any fantasy relevance in 2018.

Chris Heston Signs With Giants

Free-agent starting pitcher Chris Heston signed a minor league contract with the San Francisco Giants. Heston posted an impressive 3.95 ERA over 31 starts with the Giants in 2015, even twirling a no-hitter against the Mets that June. Although he had a strong 2015, he missed much of the 2016 season due to a lingering oblique injury, and the 29-year-old right-hander yielded 12 runs (11 earned) in six innings last season between the Mariners and Twins. Heston will likely open the 2018 season at Triple-A Sacramento.

Chris Heston Demoted To Triple-A After Sunday Spot Start

Seattle Mariners pitcher Chris Heston has been demoted to Triple-A Tacoma by the Mariners, per MLB.com. Heston was given a spot start on Sunday and was roughed up by the White Sox, allowing six earned runs and lasting only three innings. The Mariners starting rotation is in complete shambles right now, and Heston can rest easy he isn't the only one failing to keep the team in ballgames. Seattle is ranked 23rd in ERA among starting rotations in baseball and currently have four starters on the disabled list. In two appearances this season, Heston has an ERA of 19.80. He will report to Triple-A, where he has a 3.41 ERA in six starts for the team.

Chris Heston Gets Rocked By White Sox

Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Chris Heston lasted only three innings, allowing six earned runs in the Mariners' 8-1 loss to the White Sox on Sunday. The injuries to the Mariners starting rotation have really caught up to the team this past weekend, as the pitching staff allowed 24 runs to the White Sox on Saturday and Sunday. Heston was simply awful and allowed five first-inning runs, walking four and giving up seven hits. Heston hadn't appeared in a game for the club since April 25 and was called up because starter Chris De Jong was ineffective in his audition in the rotation. Heston's ERA is 19.80 in five innings this season and opponents are hitting an eye-popping .483 against him in that short stint.
