Chris Paddack Left Off Tigers Wild-Card Roster

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Chris Paddack just started on Sunday against the Red Sox, so it isn't entirely surprising to see him left off the roster for the AL Wild Card series against the Guardians. Instead, the Tigers will carry relief pitchers Keider Montero and Paul Sewald. Paddack was one of the Tigers' few in-season pickups but struggled to a 5.35 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 5.03 FIP in his 33 games between the Twins and Tigers this season. He could still make a start in the ALDS or ALCS if the Tigers advance, but he won't be part of the plan out of the bullpen in this week's series in Cleveland.

Chris Paddack Will Start in Place of Tarik Skubal on Sunday

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Chris Paddack will start on Sunday in the season finale against the Red Sox instead of the originally scheduled starter, Tarik Skubal. Although the AL Central race is tied between the Guardians and the Tigers heading into the final day of the regular season, Detroit has already secured a berth in the playoffs, so Skubal will be saved for the first game of whichever matchup the team draws in the first round. Paddack had been relegated to the bullpen at the beginning of September, so this will be his first start since August 29. It's been a rough year for the righty, posting a 5.27 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, and an 11.5 percent K-BB% (6.27 K/9), and he's probably an avoid in DFS for Sunday's contest.

Chris Paddack Named Sunday's Starter

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Chris Paddack will take the mound for Sunday's game against the Boston Red Sox. After clinching a playoff berth, the Tigers have decided to rest ace starting pitcher Tarik Skubal. The Tigers will save him for the playoffs and let Paddack pitch in the regular-season finale. Paddack has been awful with a 7.82 ERA, 1.11 WHIP across 12.2 innings in September. Fantasy managers should avoid streaming him for Sunday's slate.

Chris Paddack Returns From Bereavement List

The Detroit Tigers have activated right-hander Chris Paddack from the bereavement list and optioned outfielder Justyn-Henry Malloy to Triple-A Toledo, per Chris McCosky of the Detroit News. Paddack will return to the Tigers' bullpen after missing two games. Since joining the Tigers in a trade with the division-rival Minnesota Twins in late July, Paddack has logged a disappointing 6.89 ERA in 31 1/3 innings. He struggled badly enough over six starts that the Tigers demoted him to their bullpen. The 29-year-old made his first relief appearance with the club on Tuesday and yielded six earned runs on eight hits over 1 1/3 innings. He has totaled 142 1/3 frames this season and gone 5-11 with a 5.37 ERA, a 1.31 WHIP, and 98:32 K:BB.

Chris Paddack Placed on Bereavement List

The Detroit Tigers have placed right-hander Chris Paddack (personal) on the bereavement list and recalled righty Keider Montero from Triple-A Toledo. By MLB rules, Paddack could miss anywhere from three to seven days. The Tigers acquired the 29-year-old from the division-rival Minnesota Twins on July 28, but the move hasn't worked out so far. Paddack has pitched to a 6.38 ERA over 24 innings as a Tiger. Detroit demoted Paddack to its bullpen before his most recent appearance on Sept. 2, when he surrendered six runs in 1 1/3 innings against the New York Mets. Between the Tigers and Twins, Paddack has amassed 142 1/3 frames and gone 5-11 with a 5.37 ERA, a 1.31 WHIP, 98 strikeouts, and 32 walks.

Chris Paddack Moving to the Bullpen

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Chris Paddack has been moved out of the rotation and into the bullpen, according to manager A.J. Hinch. Paddack has been horrible with a 5.40 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and allowed eight home runs since being acquired by the Tigers at the trade deadline. It sounds like this is going to be a permanent move barring any injuries to other starters. The assumption is that Sawyer Gipson-Long will take over in the starting rotation. Paddack is available out of the bullpen during Tuesday's game. Neither pitcher has performed well enough on the mound to warrant rostering in fantasy formats. UPDATE: In addition to being moved to a relief role, the Tigers will place Paddack on the bereavement list on Wednesday.

Chris Paddack Set for Tigers Debut Wednesday

The Detroit Tigers have activated right-hander Chris Paddack, who will make his team debut Wednesday afternoon against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Paddack was acquired from the Minnesota Twins in a deal that also included right-hander Randy Dobnak, with catching prospect Enrique Jimenez going the other way. Through 21 starts this season, Paddack posted a 4.95 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and a .266 opponents average. He takes the rotation spot of Reese Olson, who is expected to miss the rest of the season with a shoulder strain. Paddack is in his seventh major league season and owns a career 4.49 ERA.

Tigers Acquire Chris Paddack From Twins

The Detroit Tigers are acquiring right-hander Chris Paddack from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for an unnamed minor-leaguer, according to multiple team sources. Paddack is the first of several players the Twins are expected to trade by Thursday's July 31 deadline. The 29-year-old Paddack, who will be a free agent this winter, is 3-9 on the year with a 4.95 ERA and 83 batters in 21 starts and 111 innings. While Paddack's numbers don't look great, he'll be joining the first-place Tigers and has looked healthy with improved velocity after recovering from his second Tommy John surgery that he had in May of 2022. He will give the Tigers a reliable starter for the No. 5 spot since prospect Jackson Jobe (elbow) tore his ACL. The acquisition of Paddack could also allow the Tigers to move prospect Troy Melton to the bullpen. Paddack's 6.4 K/9 is a career low, but he could be a useful matchup-based streamer in Detroit. UPDATE: The Tigers sent catching prospect Enrique Jimenez to the Twins for Paddack and right-hander Randy Dobnak.

Chris Paddack Strikes Out 10

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Chris Paddack allowed one run on four hits and a walk while striking out 10 over eight innings on Sunday against the Mariners. It was a great performance, but he didn't factor into the decision in the eventual 2-1 loss. The 29-year-old has been extremely consistent after giving up nine runs in his first start of the year on March 31. In 11 outings since he's yet to allow more than three earned runs in a start. The former top prospect is finally starting to see extended success at the major league level, and he'll carry a 3.58 ERA into his next start against the Blue Jays.

Chris Paddack Goes Seven Scoreless Innings In Win Over Orioles

Minnesota Twins right-hander Chris Paddack was the latest starting pitcher to shut down the Baltimore Orioles in Thursday's series finale at Camden Yards in a 4-0 shutout victory. Paddack picked up his second win of the season by tossing seven shutout innings with three hits allowed, one walk and three strikeouts. With the strong effort, Paddack lowered his ERA on the season to 4.05 through nine starts. In the process, the Twins stayed hot by sweeping the struggling O's and winning their 11th straight game after a slow start in April. Fantasy managers would have liked more punchouts from Paddack, but they'll take the strong start nonetheless. Keep in mind that nine of the 23 runs that Paddack has allowed so far in 2025 came in his first start back on March 31 against the Chicago White Sox. He's allowed four earned runs in 19 1/3 innings over three starts in May.
