San Francisco Giants outfielder Chris Shaw has been promoted to Triple-A. This is the second trip to Triple-A for Shaw, who last year collected 24 home runs, 55 runs and 65 RBI over 101 games for Sacramento. Shaw saw some time in the majors last year but hit an uninspiring .185/.274/.278 over 22 games before being sent down. If Shaw continues to produce, he could be called up sometime later this summer for the struggling Giants, but at this point in time he is an NL-only league target for fantasy owners if he gets the call to the bigs eventually.
San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy said outfield prospect Chris Shaw will play left field every day to close out the season. It makes sense with Andrew McCutchen now in New York and Steven Duggar (shoulder) likely out for the year. Shaw was batting .259 with 24 home runs and 65 RBI in 101 games with Triple-A Fresno this year. He was hitless in his first two major league at-bats on Friday but did drive in a run. He's an immediate candidate for an addition in NL-only leagues, but his poor plate discipline may make him a risky option in mixed leagues.
The San Francisco Giants are calling up outfield prospect Chris Shaw from Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, according to a source. With Andrew McCutchen traded to the Yankees on Thursday night, it makes sense for the Giants to give Shaw some run in the final month of the season after he hit .259 with 24 home runs and 65 RBI in 101 games on the farm. The team's No. 4 prospect also struck out 144 times and walked just 21 times, though, so he could struggle a bit in his first taste of the big leagues. Shaw is a candidate to own in dynasty/keeper formats, but he might only be an NL-only option the rest of the way in 2018.
San Francisco Giants outfield prospect Chris Shaw is having a nice season for Triple-A Sacramento. Shaw converted from first base to outfield this offseason. Shaw is hitting .262, which is below his career average of .278, but he does have 11 home runs and 33 RBI. Shaw is currently blocked in the Giants outfield and also by teammates Steven Duggar and Austin Slater. All three players project to be the future outfield for the Giants but are all currently blocked. Shaw is likely to break camp with the Giants in 2019 but is unlikely to have a big impact in 2018. Shaw is worth watching in all formats for now.
Outfielder Chris Shaw who is the Giants number two prospect according to MLB.com has been off to a hot start in Triple-A Sacramento. Shaw made the switch from first base to the outfield this spring and no matter what position he is playing, he continues to hit. Over his first 42 at-bats, he has hit .310 with three home runs and 10 RBI. Shaw like Steven Duggar is blocked at the big league level and would need a trade or injury to make an immediate impact in the fantasy world. Shaw still needs to work on his plate discipline as he is prone to the strike and does not draw many walks. So far this season he has 16 strikeouts and just three walks. If he can work out those kinks, he is a name for those in dynasty leagues to remember. He is likely to get some time in the majors at some point this year, but the playing time is unlikely to be there for him to make an instant impact.
Bruce Bochy Says Chris Shaw Will Only Play Left Field
Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports that San Francisco Giants outfielderChris Shaw will strictly play left field this spring, says manager Bruce Bochy. Pavlovic also notes that infielder Ryder Jones will get some time in the outfield. Shaw, one of the Giants top prospects, made the switch from first base to left field in 2017. The 24-year-old is close to the majors but will likely start the season in Triple-A, which would allow him to get everyday at-bats. He is worth keeping an eye on in dynasty leagues.
