Christian Bergman Optioned to Triple-A, Matt Fiesta Called Up

After starting Friday's game in Colorado, Bergman is being sent down to Triple-A Tacoma until his services are needed. It is unclear exactly when that will be, however, with James Paxton currently on the DL, it's fair to assume that he could be back up shortly after the All-Star break. Bergman has started two games for the Mariners this year and might need a few more until a real opinion could be had on him since one was in Coors. Fiesta is the number nine overall prospect in the Mariners lowly farm system, so he should get some middle relief chances while he's up in Seattle.

Christian Bergman Will Be Called Up To Start Friday

Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Christian Bergman will be called up on Friday to start against the Rockies on the road. The 30-year-old right-hander was marvelous in his one start for the M's this year, tossing seven shutout innings against the Rangers on May 16 with two hits allowed, no walks and five strikeouts. It won't be nearly as easy at Coors Field on Friday, and we would recommend avoiding him for the spot start.

Christian Bergman Has Strong Outing In Loss

Seattle Mariners pitcher Christian Bergman pitched seven shutout innings, allowing only two hits but getting a no-decision as the Mariners lost to the Rangers 5-1. Bergman was a last minute addition to the rotation but performed admirably. He struck out five hitters through 90 pitches and certainly earned another look moving forward. Bergman went 4-5 last season for the Mariners with a 5.00 ERA and has been pitching in Triple-A this season. Bergman will try and carry this success into his next start.

Christian Bergman Optioned to Triple-A

Christian Bergman has been optioned to Triple-A, per cbssports.com. With the impending return of Felix Hernandez on Friday, the Mariners will move Bergman out of the rotation and called up Andrew Moore for bullpen help the next few games. Bergman had several quality outings but in two starts allowed 19 runs. Those blowouts brought Bergman's ERA up to 5.70 as the Mariners have dealt with injuries to starters Hernandez, Drew Smyly, Hisashi Iwakuma and James Paxton throughout the season. Barring injury, Bergman is best suited in the minors for right now.

Christian Bergman Bounces Back

Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Christian Bergman won his fourth game of the season, allowing two runs over 5 2/3 innings in the Mariners 7-3 win over the Rangers. It was a resilient performance for the 29-year old right-hander, tossing a quality outing after getting torched for nine runs over 2 2/3 innings in his last start against the Twins. Bergman only struck out two on Sunday but had an effective, 77-pitch performance after Seattle's offense put up four first inning runs. Bergman's ERA of 5.44 can be a bit deceiving. He has had six quality starts of allowing three runs or less and two starts where he has allowed 19 combined runs in 6 2/3 innings.

Christian Bergman's Numbers Take A Hit

Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Christian Bergman allowed 10 hits and nine runs in 2 2/3 innings pitched as the Mariners got destroyed by the Twins 20-7 on Tuesday. Bergman's ERA skyrocketed from a respectable 4.03 to 5.75 as the Mariners were out of the game early despite scoring three early runs. This is the second disastrous start this season for the 29-year-old right-hander. In five starts this season, he has allowed only six earned runs with 24 strikeouts in 30 1/3 innings. But his numbers can be deceiving with two starts where he has allowed 19 runs and six home runs in only 6 2/3 innings pitched. Bergman has also been night and day pitching at home versus on the road. He is 2-1 with 1.64 ERA in three starts at Safeco Field and is 1-3 with a whopping 10.61 ERA and a 2.14 WHIP in four starts on the road this season.

Christian Bergman Tosses Third Quality Outing In A Row

Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Christian Bergman took the loss but pitched five strong innings against the Twins on Thursday. Bergman struck out six, allowed a fourth-inning home run to Twins catcher Jason Castro and suffered from some suspect Seattle defense in the game. Bergman has been one of the stabilizing forces in a Mariners rotation that has been destroyed by injuries this season. In his last three starts, he has allowed only three earned runs in 18 innings pitched. With the return of starter James Paxton plus the impending return of veterans Hisashi Iwakuma and Felix Hernandez over the next few weeks, there will be a reshuffling of the Mariners rotation. Bergman has an excellent chance right now of sticking around.

Christian Bergman No Match For Nationals Offense

Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Christian Bergman was rocked for 10 runs in only four innings pitched as the Mariners lost 10-1 to the Nationals on Tuesday. With so many injuries to the Mariners pitching staff right now, Bergman was a lamb left for the slaughter. He surrendered four home runs and 14 hits while failing to strike out a batter. This was a stark contrast to his last start when he struck out nine through 7 1/3 shutout innings. Bergman's ERA skyrocketed to 6.30 after the game, as the Mariners season is slipping away before their eyes due to a lack of starting pitching.

Christian Bergman Mystifies Oakland Hitters

Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Christian Bergman pitched 7 1/3 shutout innings, earning his first win of the season Wednesday night. Bergman allowed only two hits and struck out nine batters while lowering his ERA to 2.25. Before this start, Bergman had only struck out three batters through 8 2/3 innings this season but brought his best stuff Wednesday. Bergman is getting an opportunity to start while the Mariners deal with four starting pitchers on the disabled list. Outings like this one will surely earn Bergman another crack at sticking in the rotation.
