Cleveland Indians relief pitcher Dan Otero agreed to sign a contract extension on Tuesday that could keep him with the team until 2020. Otero agreed to a two-year, $2.5 million extension with a club option for 2020. Last week, the two sides were able to reach a one-year agreement to avoid arbitration, but they've now been able to extend that agreement into the next few seasons. Otero is a valuable and underrated member of the Cleveland bullpen. He's put up an excellent 2.14 ERA over 114 appearances in the last two seasons.
Dan Otero or Ryan Merritt to Start Game 2 of Saturday's Doubleheader
The Cleveland Indians will have either Dan Otero or Ryan Merritt on the mound to start Game 2 of Saturday's double header. Otero will start if he doesn't appear as a relief pitcher on Friday or in Game 1 on Saturday. If Otero does pitch, Merritt will get the nod.
Cleveland Indians pitcher Dan Otero will start the second game of the Indians' doubleheader against the Tigers. This assumes that Otero is not used in relief tonight or in the first game against the Tigers on Saturday and would be the first start of his MLB career. He has a 3.48 ERA and 6.39 strikeouts per nine this season and could be on a short leash in his first start. Otero is not a good start and could be worth stacking against.
