The Chicago White Sox have signed relief pitcher Dan Winkler to a minor league deal. The 32-year-old has been pitching in Triple-A with the Texas Rangers. This season, Winkler has posted a 3.50 ERA and 26/13 K/BB ratio over 18 innings in the minors. This is a solid landing spot for Winkler as the White Sox need bullpen help. Winkler has a 3.98 ERA in 182 games through parts of seven seasons in the big leagues. He's not expected to have fantasy value, but is a good signing for Chicago.
The Chicago Cubs announced on Tuesday that they have designated relief pitcher Dan Winkler for assignment. Winkler got off to a nice start to the season with a 0.51 ERA on the season entering June, but that's when the train started to fall of the tracks. Winkler had a very rough July with an 8.22 ERA and things didn't get better in August with a 29.45 ERA in six appearances. For the season, Winkler is 1-3 with a 5.22 ERA in 47 games. The veteran is likely to get picked up by another organization as a depth piece, but he should be avoided in all formats. Replacing Winkler on the active roster will be outfielder Michael Hermosillo. Hermosillo, 26, will be making his big-league debut when he steps on the field and was hitting .310 with 10 home runs, 29 RBI and seven RBI in 145 at-bats this season for the Triple-A Cubs. The Cubs are in a complete rebuild, but manager David Ross continues to stick with veteran outfielder Jason Heyward in the lineup and Hermosillo's immediate role is unknown. Managers can safely leave him on the waiver wire for now.
Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Dan Winkler (triceps) was spotted playing catch recently. The veteran landed on the injured list a few days ago with tendinitis in his right triceps, so the latest news is promising. The 31-year-old has also missed time this season due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols and should remain on rosters in leagues that reward for holds.
Dan Winkler, Brandon Workman, Jason Adam Placed On IL
The Chicago Cubs have placed relief pitchers Dan Winkler, Brandon Workman and Jason Adam on the 10-day injured list. The team hasn't specified the reasons for the moves yet, but they are believed to be COVID-19 related. The team's bullpen coach Chris Young tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday, but is not with the team at this moment. The Cubs' game against the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday will go on as scheduled, according to Cubs manager David Ross. All Cubs players with the team have tested negative. The Cubs' bullpen will certainly be shorthanded on Monday as Winkler, Workman and Adam had 13 appearances combined so far this year. The team is yet to announce corresponding moves to fill the roster spots of the three relievers.
Atlanta Braves relief pitcher Dan Winkler avoided salary arbitration on Friday by agreeing to a one-year, $1.61 million deal, according to a source. Winkler was a huge high-leverage asset for Atlanta last year, posting a 3.43 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 69 K's in 60 1/3 innings with two saves. While he won't be drafted in shallow mixed leagues, he's worth considering as a handcuff for those that snag Arodys Vizcaino late in drafts in deeper leagues.
Atlanta Braves shortstop Dansby Swanson (hand) and relief pitcher Dan Winkler were left off the roster for the National League Division Series against the Dodgers. The Braves will go with a 12-man pitching staff that will include Sean Newcomb, Julio Teheran, Touki Toussaint, Max Fried and Chad Sobotka. Shane Carle and Sam Freeman were also left off the roster. Swanson is hoping to return if the team advances to the Championship Series.
Atlanta Braves manager Brian Snitker mentioned that reliever Dan Winkler could see save opportunities going forward. A.J. Minter was also mentioned along with primary closer Arodys Vizcaino. The right-hander has an excellent 0.98 ERA, 0.65 WHIP and 27 strikeouts in 18 1/3 innings in 2018. If he were ever to become the primary closer, he would be a must-own asset. As for right now, those desperate for saves in deeper leagues should look into either Winkler or Minter, especially if you already own Vizcaino.
Atlanta Braves pitcher Dan Winkler avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $610,000 contract with the team. It is the first time he has been eligible for arbitration. Winkler hardly pitched for three years due to elbow issues but able to make 16 appearances for the Braves in 2017.
