Daniel Bard News
Colorado Rockies closer Daniel Bard picked up his second win of the season in Tuesday's 2-1 extra-innings win over the Pirates. Bard entered the game to pitch the ninth inning with the game tied 1-1. He pitched a scoreless inning with a single, a walk, and a strikeout. The Rockies were able to score a run in the top of the 10th, and Bard stayed in to pitch the bottom half of the inning. He shut the door, pitching a 1-2-3 inning with two more strikeouts. The veteran has now turned in two consecutive scoreless outings after allowing runs in his three previous outings and has 10 saves to go with a 3.31 ERA on the season. He should remain a viable fantasy option as long as he continues to pitch well and the Rockies continue to play well and frequently put themselves in save situations.
Colorado Rockies relief pitcher Daniel Bard has been roughed up lately, but bounced back nicely during Wednesday's contest. The Rockies plated three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take a two-run lead. Bard came into the ninth inning and shut the door against the San Francisco Giants. He only needed 11 pitches to get through the Giants' hitters. Bard had a bit of a rough patch there, but appears to be back to normal again.
Colorado Rockies closer Daniel Bard turned in his third straight sub-par performance in Monday's 7-6 loss to the Giants. Bard entered to pitch the top of the ninth inning with the game tied 6-6. He struck the first two hitters out, but then allowed a solo home run to Mike Yastrzemski before getting the third out on a strikeout. Bard has earned nine saves this season but has now allowed earned runs in each of his last three outings with a blown save and two losses. Hopefully, Bard can get through this rough patch, but fantasy managers who roster him should pay attention to how the Rockies use their bullpen over the next couple of games.

What a remarkable comeback story it was in 2020 for Colorado Rockies relief pitcherDaniel Bard. After his last major league appearance in 2013 with the Red Sox, Bard returned to the big show with Colorado and pitched quite admirably. His fastball averaged 97 mph with an incredible spin rate. He walked batters at a 9% clip and struck out a quarter of the batters that he faced. Combined with a ground-ball rate of almost 50%, he was the real deal. Bard is currently 35 years old, so it is hard to project lightning in a bottle for a second straight season (and a full one), but aside from that, it isn't a stretch to think that Bard could succeed as the Rockies closer to start 2021. Bard will be fantasy relevant this spring.
