Daniel Descalso News

Daniel Descalso Placed On Injured List

The Chicago Cubs have placed infielder Daniel Descalso (ankle) on the 10-day injured list with a left ankle sprain. Descalso has struggled mightily at the plate this year with a .181 batting average and two home runs. Even when healthy, Descalso can remain on the waiver wire in all formats.

Daniel Descalso Starting at Second Base

Chicago Cubs infielder Daniel Descalso will be in the starting lineup for Thursday's game against the New York Mets. Descalso has not seen much playing time lately, so it's surprising to see him in the lineup. He'll play second base and bat ninth versus righty Walker Lockett. Descalso has only five hits over the last month, so he belongs on the waiver wire everywhere.

Daniel Descalso is Sitting Out Versus Lefty

Chicago Cubs infielder Daniel Descalso (rest) is out of the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Houston Astros. The veteran infielder is hitting .194 and has been awful at the plate in the month of May. David Bote will draw the start at second base and bat ninth versus lefty Wade Miley. Descalso can be dropped in all fantasy leagues. It wouldn't be surprising to see the Cubs cut ties with him soon and maybe see Ian Happ get some playing time in Chicago. Happ has not played this season and has been playing regularly in the minors.

Daniel Descalso Picks Up A Pair Of Hits

Chicago Cubs infielder Daniel Descalso went 1-for-4 with a walk and two RBI on Monday versus the Phillies. Descalso has been getting a decent amount of plate appearances for the Cubs, but does not own an everyday role and is more useful in DFS.

Daniel Descalso Still Not Ready For Full Game

Chicago Cubs infielder Daniel Descalso (ankle) is still a few days from being ready to play a full nine innings, according to president Theo Epstein. It's the reason why the team called up Addison Russell to play the keystone on Wednesday with Ben Zobrist (personal) away from the team. Descalso, 32, doesn't have a whole lot of upside with the bat and is more of a super-utility player, but he often comes through in the clutch and is a good clubhouse guy. He's hitting .250 (21-for-84) with two homers and 11 RBI on the season. Expect him to platoon with Russell at second base moving forward.

Daniel Descalso Still Hurting

Chicago Cubs infielder Daniel Descalso (ankle) remained out of the starting lineup on Monday after he was forced to leave the game on Saturday with soreness in his left ankle. He suffered the injury rounding first base on a single in the first inning, according to MLB.com's Jordan Bastian. The 32-year-old veteran has been seeing a lot of playing time this year at the keystone in the early season, and he's hitting .253/.340/.386 with two home runs and 11 RBI. He offers some position versatility in NL-only leagues but is unlikely to help you out much across most categories. David Bote has started at second base the last two games with Descalso hurting.

Daniel Descalso Expected To Be Fine For Opening Day

Chicago Cubs utility man Daniel Descalso (shoulder) had a handful of at-bats and played multiple positions on the infield in a minor league game on Sunday. He'll likely play in one of the two upcoming games against the Red Sox and is expected to be fine for Opening Day. The 32-year-old veteran has proved to be a clutch utility man through the years, and he hit .238 with a career-high 13 home runs and 57 RBI in 138 games for Arizona in 2018. While he might be useful for infield depth in NL-only leagues, Descalso shouldn't be owned in mixed leagues.

Daniel Descalso Joins Cubs

The Chicago Cubs agreed to an undisclosed deal with free-agent infielder Daniel Descalso on Tuesday. Descalso was a utility player for Arizona the last two years and hit .238/.353/.436 with a career-high 13 home runs and 57 RBI in 138 games last season. He spent most of his time at second base (51 games) and third base (34 games), but he can also play a little first base and the outfield and has a knack for delivering as a pinch-hitter late in games. Chicago is a nice landing spot for him, where he'll likely continue to serve in a utility role while mostly playing the keystone. His fantasy value is mostly limited to NL-only leagues, however.

Daniel Descalso To See More Time At Second Base

Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Daniel Descalso will see more time at second base down the stretch at the expense of Ketel Marte, according to manager Torey Lovullo. Descalso and Marte have basically been pretty close to the same player this year, but Descalso brings more of a veteran presence to the starting lineup, offers more position flexibility and has been more clutch. The 31-year-old is hitting .248/.365/.448 with 12 home runs and 55 RBI in 315 at-bats. He will gain some more value in deep mixed and NL-only leagues, while Marte loses his appeal to close out the year.

Carlos Gonzalez Homers Off Daniel Descalso

The Colorado Rockies destroyed the Arizona Diamondbacks Wednesday at Coors Field by a score of 19-2. Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez hit two homers in the game and had six RBI. His second homer, a three-run smash, came off position player Daniel Descalso. Gonzalez is a streaky hitter that makes him hard for DFS players, but is generally better in the second half of the season.
