Danny Salazar Inks Minor League Deal With The Yankees
The New York Yankees signed free-agent right-hander Danny Salazar (shoulder) to a minor league deal on Thursday. The 32-year-old dealt with a severe shoulder issue, and he hasn't pitched in the majors since 2019. The former Cleveland Guardian owns a career of 3.82 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 688 strikeouts over 591 1/3 innings over six big-league seasons. Salazar will look to bounce back in the minors and work his way onto the Yankees roster in 2022.
Cleveland Indians outfielder Bradley Zimmer (shoulder, side) will move his rehab assignment to Triple-A Columbus on Monday, while pitcher Danny Salazar (groin) will start his rehab assignment with Double-A Akron on Monday and throw one inning. Both players should be able to help the Tribe out in September. Zimmer has an intriguing mix of power and speed, but he's been out all season and is likely to be eased back in when he returns. Salazar will likely be used in a relief role upon his return as the club seeks a playoff spot. Neither player is likely to help fantasy owners down the stretch.
Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Danny Salazar (groin) has been placed on the 10-day injured list. Salazar made his season debut on Thursday, but sadly lands right back on the injured list. He suffered a right groin strain, so fantasy owners shouldn't expect Salazar to contribute this season. He still needs to undergo an MRI before more information is known, but Salazar is too risky at this point.
Danny Salazar Does Okay in His First Appearance of 2019
Cleveland Indians pitcher Danny Salazar returned from the injured list to make his first appearance of 2019 on Thursday. Salazar worked as a "modified opener" and tossed four innings, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks. He struck out two and allowed two home runs. Mixed results were expected from Salazar after such a long time away from the mound, but there were some promising signs from the righty. If he can stay healthy and get stretched out to work as a regular starter, he could have some legitimate fantasy value down the stretch.
Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Danny Salazar (shoulder) will make his season debut against the Houston Astros on Thursday. Salazar has not pitched since the 2017 playoffs, so this should be interesting. He's been batting shoulder and elbow issues since then. Salazar pitched well in the minors, but we'll see if he can do it again at the big league level. He's not a strong DFS option for Thursday, but could have some fantasy value in leagues where owners are desperate for pitching.
Danny Salazar Will Make His Season Debut on Thursday
Cleveland Indians pitcher Danny Salazar (shoulder) will come off the injured list and pitch for the first time this season on Thursday. Manager Terry Francona says Salazar will serve as a "modified opener," working the first three or four innings before handing the ball to Adam Plutko. It's a tough first matchup against the Astros and there's essentially no chance of a win or a quality start his first time out, but it'll be encouraging to see Salazar back in action. He pitched well in the minor leagues during his rehab assignment and as long as he stays healthy, he could have some solid value once he's stretched out as a more traditional starter.
Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Danny Salazar (shoulder) will make one more rehab start with the team's Single-A affiliate before jumping to Double-A Akron. Salazar threw his first rehab innings on Sunday, going 1 2/3 innings, while striking out five. According to the front office, the righty hit 96 mph in the appearance. Salazar hasn't pitched in a major league game since 2017, after missing all of 2018 with the shoulder injury. Still just 29-years-old, the veteran has a chance to help out the Indians in the second half of the season. Whether it be in the rotation or bullpen, it seems the Cleveland front office isn't really sure yet. If he starts, he will immediately gain AL-only value and his success will determine any mixed league value. Regardless, he's likely looking at a late July return at the earliest.
Cleveland Indians pitcher Danny Salazar (shoulder) started throwing live batting practice for the first time on Tuesday, and manager Terry Francona said the right-hander has been making solid progress since then. The 29-year-old missed all of 2018 due to injury but should help the Indians out for the second half of this season. It's unclear if he'll work in a starting or relief role, but Salazar could have deep mixed and AL-only value in a starting role after he went 11-6 with a 3.87 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 10.6 K/9 in 25 starts in 2016. Salazar owns an impressive 10.5 strikeouts per nine innings in his five years in the big leagues.
Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona said that outfielder Bradley Zimmer (shoulder) will start serving as the designated hitter in extended spring training this weekend. Starting pitcher Danny Salazar (shoulder) has also resumed throwing side sessions. Zimmer has a long ways to go before he's back in Cleveland, but he's attractive in deep mixed leagues because of his power/speed combination, and he should play regularly when he's healthy. Salazar has shown in the past that he can be relevant for all fantasy owners, but health has been his issue in recent seasons. Keep him on your watch list for now.
Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Danny Salazar (shoulder) suffered a setback in his rehab, according to manager Terry Francona. "It's probably been about a week now," Francona said. "He had a real good bullpen session and then the next couple days he didn't feel as good. So he went to see (a team doctor). So he's down a couple of days from throwing. Then they'll ramp him back up." Salazar hasn't pitched in a game of any kind since 2017, dealing with elbow and shoulder issues since. When healthy, he has the potential to be a solid fantasy option, but who knows how effective he'll be once he is finally able to return.
