Danny Valencia News
The Baltimore Orioles designated third baseman Danny Valencia for assignment on Friday and recalled outfielder Cedric Mullins from Triple-A Norfolk in a corresponding move. Valencia was hitting .263 with nine long balls and 28 RBI in 78 games for the O's. He can be useful against left-handers as a veteran presence off the bat. Mullins is ranked as the team's No. 9 prospect and was batting .288/.346/.465 with 11 home runs, 46 RBI and 21 stolen bases in 108 games with Norfolk and Double-A Bowie this year. He could certainly see enough playing time for the last-place Orioles and is worth monitoring in deep mixed and AL-only leagues.
Baltimore Orioles third baseman Danny Valencia went 3-for-4 with three singles and an RBI in Friday's 15-5 win over the Rays. The veteran, who started off the season well, has slumped in July, hitting .241 with just two walks and two extra-base hits in 57 plate appearances. Valencia's fantasy value was slim to begin with, and given his performance this month and the offense he hits in, fantasy players should not give him a roster spot at this time.
Baltimore Orioles infielder/outfielder Danny Valencia will bat cleanup and serve as the designated hitter against lefty David Price on Wednesday. Valencia is batting .600/.667/.720 with zero home runs and three RBI against Price in his career. He normally bats sixth or seventh in the Orioles order, but will move up because of the favorable matchup. Valencia is only worth adding in AL-only leagues, but is a sleeper option for DFS contests on Wednesday.
