Devin Smeltzer Agrees To Deal With Marlins

Free-agent left-hander Devin Smeltzer agreed to a one-year split deal with the Miami Marlins on Tuesday. He will make $1 million if he's in the majors and will receive an invitation to major-league spring training, according to sources. The 27-year-old southpaw reliever had a 3.71 ERA (5.23 FIP), 1.22 WHIP and career-low 13.9 percent strikeout rate in a career-high 70 1/3 innings pitched over 15 appearances (12 starts) for the Minnesota Twins last year. There is more opportunity in Miami's starting rotation with Pablo Lopez now in Minnesota, but Smeltzer will likely open the 2023 season as a long man in Miami's bullpen if he makes the Opening Day roster out of spring training.

Devin Smeltzer To Start On Tuesday

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Devin Smeltzer will take the mound for Tuesday's game against the Detroit Tigers. The left-hander will start the first game of the doubleheader on Tuesday. Smeltzer pitched well against during a spot start on Thursday, so the Twins are giving him another chance. The Tigers offense has struggled lately, so Smeltzer isn't a bad streaming choice for Tuesday.

Devin Smeltzer Placed On Injured List With Elbow Inflammation

Minnesota Twins relief pitcher Devin Smeltzer (elbow) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday with left elbow inflammation, according to Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com. Smeltzer had made only one appearance so far this year, tossing 4 2/3 innings of relief against the Pirates on April 24. With Smeltzer out, the Twins have recalled Shaun Anderson to take his place. For now, neither Smeltzer nor Anderson should be considered as viable options in fantasy.

Devin Smeltzer Optioned To Alternate Site

Minnesota Twins pitcher Devin Smeltzer was optioned back to the team's alternate site following Saturday's loss to the Pirates. Smeltzer played a key role in the game, pitching 4 2/3 innings of one-run ball- no earned runs- in relief of starter Michael Pineda, who was roughed up for five runs in his outing. The move makes sense, considering Smeltzer won't be able to pitch again for several days. The team is expected to announce a corresponding move on Sunday.

Devin Smeltzer Has So-So Outing

Minnesota Twins pitcher Devin Smeltzer pitched 4 1/3 innings against the Royals, allowing two runs while walking one and striking out a pair. Smeltzer left in a tie game so he couldn't factor into the decision, though it was a somewhat successful debut for his new slider. The 24-year-old threw the pitch 15 times and got three swings-and-misses on it. Smeltzer seems to have settled down after allowing five runs and two homers in his first appearance against the White Sox. He likely won't have much fantasy value, considering he's a fill-in starter at this point and will be relegated back to the 'pen when Rich Hill (shoulder) and Homer Bailey (biceps) return.

Devin Smeltzer Enters Rotation For Start Friday

Minnesota Twins left-handed pitcher Devin Smeltzer has been shifted to the starting rotation for Fridays contest against the Royals. Smeltzer worked behind an opener his last time out and allowed one run over 2 innings, a drastic step forward from his nightmarish debut July 25 (2 IP, 5 ER). The southpaw has starting experience from last year, where he produced a 4.11 ERA across his six starts. He holds little season-long value aside from the deepest formats (especially due to pitch count concerns), but has some DFS intrigue as he matches up with a Kansas City offense that ranked 27th in the Majors in on-base percentage (.274) entering play Thursday.

Devin Smeltzer Earns Win On Sunday

Minnesota Twins pitcher Devin Smeltzer worked the second two innings of the opener on Sunday and picked up his first win of the season. The 24-year-old allowed two hits, one run and walked one batter while striking out a pair. It was a much better outing this time around for Smeltzer, who was shelled for five runs and two homers against the White Sox on July 25. He won't have too many chances to be fantasy-relevant this year, unless an injury forces him into action. Smeltzer is best left to the waiver wire.

Devin Smeltzer Named Starter for Saturday

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Devin Smeltzer has been named the starting pitcher for the first game of the doubleheader against the Cleveland Indians on Saturday. Smeltzer has a 4.05 ERA across four starts with the Twins this season. He doesn't have enough experience to make him a trustworthy option for DFS contests. He should probably be avoided in most cases.

Devin Smeltzer Blanks Royals Over Six Innings

Minnesota Twins left-hander Devin Smeltzer was excellent in a 3-0 win over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday. The rookie held the Royals scoreless over six innings of work while striking out four and allowing just three baserunners. Smeltzer has shown well in limited opportunities this season, posting a 1-1 record, 2.28 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, and 21 strikeouts in 27 2/3 innings of work. It looks like he will take on the Cleveland Indians in his next start, which will take place on Friday. That won't be a great spot to use him in, but if he fares well again, fantasy owners can start considering him as a streaming option in deeper leagues.

Devin Smeltzer Recalled, Starting Sunday

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Devin Smeltzer has been recalled and will draw the start against the Kansas City Royals on Sunday. The rest of the starting rotation will be pushed back a day. Smeltzer has a 2.91 ERA through 21.2 innings this season with the Twins. He'll likely see more than one start in the rotation, so he could be worth looking at in fantasy leagues. Smeltzer is a decent streaming option against the struggling Royals offense.
