Eduardo Nunez Announces Retirement

Former Boston Red Sox infielder Eduardo Nunez announced his retirement on his personal Instagram account on Thursday. Nunez last played in 2020 in just two games for the New York Mets. The 35-year-old hand not played at all this year and last played in seven games for the Fubon Guardians of the Chinese Professional Baseball League in 2021. He spent 11 years in the big leagues with the New York Yankees, Minnesota Twins, Red Sox, San Francisco Giants and Mets. Nunez will finish his career with a career slash line of .276/.310/.404 with 58 home runs, 309 RBI, 353 runs scored and 142 stolen bases in 858 regular season games. He was part of Boston's 2018 World Series champion team and was platooning with third baseman Rafael Devers.

Eduardo Nunez Placed On Injured

New York Mets infielder Eduardo Nunez (knee) has been placed on the injured list with a left knee contusion. Nunez suffered the injury on Sunday attempting to beat out an infield single. Nunez has been serving as a bench player for the Mets and even when he is healthy should be left on the waiver wire. The Mets have promoted second baseman Brian Dozier to take his spot on the roster. There is currently no timetable for when Nunez could return.

Eduardo Nunez Injured In Mets Loss

The New York Mets infielder Eduardo Nunez believes he may have hyperextended his knee in the Mets 14-1 loss to the Braves on Sunday. He will be reevaluated by the team on Monday. With Luis Guillorme and Andres Gimenez on the Mets roster, Nunez serves strictly as a utility player and deep bench bat. He holds little appeal in fantasy leagues.

Mets Add Eduardo Nunez

The New York Mets signed infielder Eduardo Nunez to a minor league deal on Saturday, according to a source. The 32-year-old will be a non-roster invite to spring training. The 10-year veteran debuted with the Yankees in 2010 and spent the last three seasons with the Red Sox. Nunez has been a key utility player in his career, but he had just a .548 OPS and struggled on defense in 60 games with Boston in 2019. He could easily win a bench spot on the Mets Opening Day roster, but Nunez would purely be a utility player and bench bat, leaving him little appeal in fantasy leagues.

Eduardo Nunez Designated For Assignment

Boston Red Sox infielder Eduardo Nunez has been designated for assignment, announced the team on Monday. They also optioned pitcher Hector Velazquez to Triple-A Pawtucket and recalled pitcher Ryan Weber and utility man Sam Travis. Nunez hasn't been of much use this year for Boston, hitting .228 with a .548 OPS. They'll have 10 days to decide whether to trade, release, or demote the 32-year-old infielder. If he lands on another roster, it will likely be in limited fashion, thus rendering him useless in fantasy. Velazquez has had a rough go of it this year, sitting at 1-4 with a 5.67 ERA across 45 innings of work as a spot starter and out of the bullpen. Weber has made a handful of spot starts earlier this season and has a 1.40 WHIP over 19 1/3 innings, while Travis is recalled after spending parts of June in the bigs. Neither he or Weber have any fantasy relevance and shouldn't even sniff your radar.

Eduardo Nunez Seeing The Ball Well In June

Boston Red Sox utility infielder Eduardo Nunez doubled and scored Boston's only run in Sunday's 6-1 loss to Toronto. The veteran entered the game in the fourth inning after Brock Holt (hamstring) was removed from the game. Nunez led off the ninth with a double before scoring later on a fielding error. In June, he's slashing .289/.319/.422 with a home run and four runs batted in. The 32-year-old can play just about anywhere in the infield, but offers little power with the bat. If Holt is forced to miss any extended time, Nunez should continue to see an increase in playing time around the infield. He has some value in AL-only formats, but his mixed league value is non-existent due to the low-power upside.

Eduardo Nunez To Join Red Sox Saturday

Boston Red Sox infielder Eduardo Nunez(back) is expected to be activated on Saturday prior to the game against the White Sox. In a corresponding move, the Red Sox are expected to send Tzu-Wei Lin to the injured list with a knee injury. Lin has not been fantasy relevant, however, Nunezs presence on the roster brings questions to what role hell play. With Michael Chavis tearing the cover off of the ball (he hit another home run Friday night), theres no guarantee that the Red Sox will sit him in favor of Nunez. Nunez has hit .159/.178/.182 in his first 17 games and his defense certainly wont keep him on the field. Monitor the situation but give the edge to Chavis as the everyday second baseman going forward.

Eduardo Nunez Could Be Back Monday

Boston Red Sox infielder Eduardo Nunez (back) went 2-for-3 with a home run in his third rehab game for Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday as the designated hitter. He's been on the injured list since April 19 with a mid-back strain and was 0-for-8 in his first two games on the farm. Manager Alex Cora estimated that Nunez would need 20 at-bats before being activated, so he could come off the injured list against the Orioles on Monday. Before going down with injury, he was hitting just .159/.178/.182 with five RBI in 17 games. With Michael Chavis hitting well at the keystone, Nunez could return to only a utility role in Boston.

Dustin Pedroia, Eduardo Nunez Starting Rehab Assignments

Boston Red Sox infielders Dustin Pedroia (knee) and Eduardo Nunez (back) are both starting minor league rehab assignments this week -- Pedroia with Portland on Thursday and Nunez with Triple-A Pawtucket on Monday. Both infielders could be back after a few minor league games, barring setbacks. However, with rookie Michael Chavis holding down the fort at the keystone and swinging it well, both Pedroia and Nunez might return to utility roles for Boston.

Eduardo Nunez Could Start Rehab Assignment Soon

Boston Red Sox infielder Eduardo Nunez (back) took around 300 swings on Tuesday and could start a minor league rehab assignment in the coming days. The Red Sox could get Nunez, Brock Holt (eye) and Dustin Pedroia (knee) back in short order, which will mean that rookie Michael Chavis will likely head back to the minors for more seasoning. Expect a platoon at the keystone between the trio of players, which limits their fantasy appeal in AL-only leagues. Nunez has the worst glove but probably the most offensive upside.
