Free-agent pitcher Emmanuel Ramirez signed a one-year deal with the Seibu Lions of Nippon Professional Baseball on Friday. Ramirez will head overseas in 2025 a year after making his major-league debut with the Miami Marlins. He made 15 appearances out of Miami's bullpen and had a 6.97 ERA (4.62 FIP) and 1.40 WHIP with 21 strikeouts and eight walks in 20 2/3 innings pitched. The 30-year-old Dominican hurler pitched for both Triple-A Jacksonville and Triple-A Buffalo (Blue Jays organization) as well in 2024 and posted a 4.20 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 56:17 K:BB in 30 relief appearances over 45 innings pitched. Ramirez will now head to Japan perhaps with the intentions of trying to resurface in the States after a season or two pitching for the Lions.
The Toronto Blue Jays have released right-handed relief pitcher Emmanuel Ramirez. Ramirez spent most of the 2024 season with the Miami Marlins and held a poor 6.97 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP across 20 2/3 innings. He struck out 21 batters. In Triple-A Jacksonville the 30-year-old posted a 3.76 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP across 40 2/3 innings of work. Then, in September he was claimed by Toronto and spent the final month of the season pitching for Triple-A Buffalo. Across a small 4 1/3 inning stint, he allowed four earned runs. Given his inconsistencies in the major leagues, fantasy managers should not expect Ramirez to have any fantasy value during the 2025 campaign.
The Miami Marlins recalled rookie right-hander Emmanuel Ramirez from Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday and placed reliever Anthony Bender (undisclosed) on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. Ramirez returns to the big-league pitching staff after being sent down to the farm just last week after he gave up seven runs (six earned) without recording an out in his last appearance for the Marlins on Aug. 8 against the Cincinnati Reds. The 30-year-old Dominican hurler is 0-1 in his first year in the majors with a 5.51 ERA (4.28 FIP), a 1.16 WHIP, 16 strikeouts and six walks in 16 1/3 innings out of the bullpen. Ramirez will be looking for better results for the Fish this time around. He's not on the fantasy radar at all in any league formats.
