Atlanta Braves relief pitcher Eric O'Flaherty is headed back to the 10-day disabled list with rotator cuff tendinitis. The right-handed reliever was activated from a prior injury only nine days ago. Extended time to rest and regain his composure looks to be the only option, as he's struggled in his return. Appearing in four games, O'Flaherty has allowed six runs in less than five innings of work. Atlanta adjusted the roster by recalling right-handed pitcher Jason Hursh, who threw one shutout inning earlier this season.
Atlanta Braves relief pitcher Eric O'Flaherty was the newest Braves pitcher to struggle at Sun Trust Park. The new facility has offered a tall task for Atlanta arms all season. O'Flaherty, who was activated from the disabled list on Friday, made his second appearance in three days on Monday. The veteran ruined any chance for a comeback, as he allowed two earned runs on a blast from Phillies outfielder Aaron Altherr. Truly considered the fourth arm in the bullpen, expectations should remain low for O'Flaherty until he proves his worth over the long term.
Adonis Garcia, Eric O'Flaherty To Be Activated On Friday
Both Atlanta Braves third baseman Adonis Garcia and Eric O'Flaherty are expected to come off the disabled list on Friday. Atlanta will be starting a new series in Cincinnati and will look for new depth to their lineup, as the team has dropped six of the past eight games. Garcia has appeared in five games with Triple-A Gwinnett where he hit .400 with a trio of doubles. His return will cast a shadow of uncertainty over young third baseman Rio Ruiz, who has slid in production over the past week. O'Flaherty appeared in two games with Gwinnett with mixed results. His first outing went smoothly, but he recorded only one out and allowed five base runners in his final chance. The veteran was a regular part of the bullpen with 18 appearances prior to the injury.
Atlanta Braves relief pitcher Eric O'Flaherty was placed on the disabled list earlier today with a lower back strain. O'Flaherty leads the bullpen, alongside relievers Jose Ramirez and Arodys Vizcaino, with 18 appearances so far this year. Outside of a lone poor outing against New York, he has been a reliable arm in relief. Pitcher Luke Jackson has been recalled to fill the open roster spot. He appeared in three consecutive games during the middle of April. Two of those outings came against today's opponent, the Washington Nationals.
