The Cleveland Indians optioned shortstop Eric Stamets to Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday and called up infielder Mike Freeman from Columbus in a corresponding move. Stamets hit just .049 (2-for-48) with two RBI, 24 strikeouts and five walks in 15 games while filling in for Francisco Lindor (calf). Freeman can handle the bat a bit more, but Lindor could return to make his season debut later this week, so Freeman might not be in Cleveland for long. Freeman hit .208 (5-for-24) with three home runs and three RBI on the farm to begin the year.
Cleveland Indians shortstop Eric Stamets went 0-for-3 on Wednesday and is now hitless in 13 plate appearances this season. Stamets was always a glove-first infielder, hitting around or under .200 in several of his minor league seasons. He's only starting in Cleveland because of Francisco Lindor's injury. Once Lindor returns, Stamets is unlikely to see much of the batter's box for the rest of the season. He shouldn't be owned in any format at this point.
