Ervin Santana Allows Three Runs Over Three Innings
Kansas City Royals pitcher Ervin Santana made his second start of the year against the Minnesota Twins on Saturday. He pitched three innings while allowing four hits, one walk and three earned runs. He recorded three strikeouts. Santana worked in a tandem role with Carlos Hernandez, who wasn't much better than Santana, allowing three runs (two earned) over 4 1/3 innings. Santana has been effective in a relief role this year. He's now made nine total appearances on the year and has a 3.26 ERA and 1.09 WHIP.
The Kansas City Royals signed right-hander Ervin Santana to a minor league deal on Tuesday. Santana didn't pitch at all in 2020, but the 15-year veteran should provide a young Royals pitching staff with experience. The 38-year-old has a career record of 149-127 and a 4.09 ERA (101 ERA+) in 387 games (384 starts). Santana was an All-Star in 2008 with the Angels and in 2017 with the Twins. But he's started just eight games since 2017, recording a combined 8.53 ERA with the Twins and White Sox. Although Santana hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2019 with Chicago, he did have a 2.61 ERA with 25 strikeouts in 20 2/3 innings (five starts) for Tigres del Licey in the Dominican Winter League this year. While Santana will be an option for KC's rotation, he'll likely be more of a swing man and long-relief arm out of the bullpen if he makes the major league roster out of spring training.
New York Mets starting pitcher Ervin Santana has been assigned to High-A St. Lucie. Santana had been working out in Port St. Lucie since signing with the Mets. Through three starts this season with the Chicago White Sox, Santana compiled a downright ugly 9.45 ERA and 1.88 WHIP, giving up 14 earned runs through only 13 innings pitched. This could be the end of the line for the 36-year-old if he doesn't manage to find his stuff and get the call-up. He can be safely ignored in all fantasy formats.
The New York Mets signed former Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Ervin Santana to a minor league deal on Friday. Santana was an All-Star in 2017, but in 2018 and '19, he has only started eight total games, with an 8.53 ERA and 8.50 FIP in 38 innings. He's got a very long way to go to regain any fantasy relevance, and at 36 years old, time is running out.
The Chicago White Sox designated starting pitcher Ervin Santana for assignment on Friday and reinstated outfielder Eloy Jimenez from the bereavement list in a corresponding move. Santana was awful in his three starts for Chicago, going 0-2 with a 9.45 ERA, 1.88 WHIP and just five K's in 13 1/3 innings. He can safely be dumped by any owners that were using him in AL-only leagues. Jimenez, one of the best young outfielders in the game, will return to the everyday lineup. The 22-year-old is off to a slow start (.231 average, three homers), but his upside is tantalizing and he'll have hot streaks eventually. Get him back into your lineups.
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Ervin Santana went five innings on Monday versus his former team, the Kansas City Royals. Santana let up all of his runs on home runs. Santana is now sporting a 9.00 ERA over his first two starts and will square off versus the Detroit Tigers on Saturday. Santana can be avoided in all formats for now, aside from streaming.
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Ervin Santana will be activated from the injured list in order to make his season debut against the Rays on Tuesday. The 36-year-old veteran made just five starts in 2018 due to injury and was terrible on the mound when he did pitch, sporting an 8.03 ERA. Santana could be useful in the right matchups, but he profiles as a low-ceiling, high-risk fantasy option in deeper leagues.
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Ervin Santana will stay in Arizona and make a couple more starts before joining the White Sox's rotation for the regular season. Santana made just his second spring start on Monday and won't be an option for fantasy owners until mid-April most likely. The 36-year-old right-hander made only five starts for the Twins last year due to injury and is a poor bet to bounce back in the American League and in a hitter's park.
The Chicago White Sox signed free-agent starting pitcher Ervin Santana to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training on Friday. The veteran right-hander made just five starts in 2018 with the Twins due to finger issues and was terrible when he was on the mound. However, he went 16-8 with a 3.28 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 7.1 K% in 33 starts in 2017 as a second-time All-Star. Santana doesn't have very much upside and will be fighting for the final rotation spot in camp. He's already off to a late start. If he wins the job, he'll be a late-round flier in deep AL-only leagues, at best.
Twins Decline Options On Ervin Santana, Logan Morrison
The Minnesota Twins declined their 2019 options on starting pitcher Ervin Santana and first baseman Logan Morrison on Tuesday, giving each $1 million buyouts and making them free agents. Both players had lost seasons in 2018 due to injuries. Santana only made five starts due to a finger injury that required surgery, and he wasn't good when he did pitch, posting an 8.03 ERA and 1.62 WHIP. The veteran right-hander won't be very attractive to fantasy owners no matter where he lands. Morrison hit a putrid .186/.276/.368 with 15 home runs and 39 RBI in 95 games after posting a career year in Tampa (38 home runs, 85 RBI) in 2017. Morrison isn't as bad as his 2018 season suggests, but he's highly unlikely to reach his high-water mark of 2017 ever again.
