The Atlanta Braves released Ezequiel Carrera on Thursday after an uninspiring Triple-A stint that saw him carry a pitiful .146 average over 82 at-bats. The former Toronto Blue Jays outfielder has seen some success at the major league level, which is evidenced by his lifetime .262 average. In terms of fantasy implications, there is not much to report about because Carrera should be far away from any fantasy roster. Perhaps a new team shows interest in him and a change of scenery does him somegood.
Ezequiel Carrera Signs Minor League Deal With Braves
The Atlanta Braves brought in free-agent outfielder Ezequiel Carrera on a minor league pact. Carrera, who actually hit a decent .282 with eight homers in 2017, also brings some wheels to Atlanta. He stole 10 bases in 2017 with Toronto. He's never going to be a stud outfielder, being 30 years old and never getting more than 325 plate appearances, but he could be worth watching in a deep NL-only leagues.

Kevin Pillar was the only sure outfielder on the roster heading into the winter, but after acquiring Curtis Granderson and Randal Grichuk (with both likely to start), plus the team being high on youngster Teoscar Hernandez, the 30-year-old Carrera lost out in the numbers game. He will likely resurface somewhere in a platoon he did look good against right-handed pitching last year, slashing .310/.376/.448 against them in 2017.

We're not sure how someone recovers from a foot fracture in roughly two weeks, but hey, some of us heal faster than others. Carrera returns to a .297/.366/.412 slash line with five home runs, 18 runs scored, 15 RBI, and three stolen bases in 186 plate appearances (56 games). Dwight Smith Jr., who has been seeing regular playing time in left field as of late, is heading back to Triple-A to make room.

Ezequiel Carrera Keeps It Going With Two More Hits
If you thought Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Ezequiel Carrera would arguably be Toronto's best hitter through 35 games, you should probably play the lotto sometime soon. Carrera kept the good times rolling on Thursday in a 7-2 victory over the Mariners, finishing 2-for-4 with a run scored. He's now picked up hits in three straight games, including two consecutive multi-hit outings. He's bashed three home runs with 10 runs scored, 10 RBI, and one stolen base on the year, accompanied by a .322/.337/.460 slash line. He's still not going to get the playing time to be a consistent fantasy option in standard leagues, but considering how good he's been, he needs to be under consideration for daily fantasy leagues given his cheap price tag.

Now slashing .313/.329/.458 with the three homers, a double, nine runs scored, 10 RBI and one steal, Carrera has been a solid producer for Toronto this season playing mostly left field. He's not much of a fantasy option due to inconsistent playing time, but he makes for an interesting DFS play when he's in the lineup given what he's been able to do thus far.
