Joe Jacques Signs Minor-League Deal With Dodgers

Free-agent left-handed reliever Joe Jacques signed a minor-league deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday that includes an invitation to big-league spring training. Jacques pitches in 25 games in the majors with the Boston Red Sox and Arizona Diamondbacks the last two years, posting a bloated 5.46 ERA (4.90 FIP), a 1.65 WHIP, one save, 22 strikeouts and 11 walks in only 29 2/3 innings pitched over 25 appearances (one start). This past season with Boston and Arizona, he finished with a 9.00 ERA and 2.33 WHIP in just three innings out of the bullpen. He wasn't much better in three minor-league stops between both teams in 2024, sporting a 5.48 ERA and 1.59 WHIP with 41 strikeouts and 21 walks in 42 2/3 frames over 40 outings (one start). The 29-year-old southpaw is likely to start at Triple-A Oklahoma City in 2024 as left-handed relief depth for the World Series champions.

Brusdar Graterol Undergoes Shoulder Surgery

Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed reliever Brusdar Graterol (shoulder) underwent right-shoulder surgery on his labrum on Thursday and was operated on by Dr. Neal ElAttrache. Graterol is expected to return to the mound in the second half of the 2025 season as a result. The 26-year-old made a return in the postseason to help the Dodgers win the World Series in October, but he missed the vast majority of the 2024 regular season due to right-shoulder issues. The Venezuelan reliever allowed two earned runs while walking two and striking out seven in 7 1/3 innings of work in just seven appearances in his sixth year in the big leagues. He had his best season in 2023, posting a 1.20 ERA with a career-high seven saves in 67 1/3 frames. Graterol will be off the fantasy radar next spring and won't return to LA until after the All-Star break.

Shohei Ohtani Among NL Silver Slugger Winners

Major League Baseball announced the 2024 National League Silver Slugger winners on Tuesday on MLB Network. The winners in the NL were Phillies 1B Bryce Harper, Diamondbacks 2B Ketel Marte, Mets SS Francisco Lindor, Padres 3B Manny Machado, Padres OF Jackson Merrill, Dodgers OF Teoscar Hernandez, Padres OF Jurickson Profar, Brewers C William Contreras, Dodgers DH Shohei Ohtani, and Dodgers UTIL Mookie Betts. This is the third time Ohtani has won a Silver Slugger award in his career. The two-way superstar became the first player in MLB history to hit at least 50 homers (54) and steal at least 50 bases (59) in the same season. The tremendous feat will likely also earn the Japanese sensation his third career MVP award (and first in the NL). In addition to all the hardware, Ohtani won his first World Series championship with the Dodgers in October.

Shohei Ohtani's Shoulder Surgery Could Delay His Pitching

Los Angeles Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani (shoulder) is expected to be ready for the start of the 2025 regular season in Tokyo next March as a designated hitter after undergoing surgery on the labrum in his left shoulder after he partially dislocated it during the World Series, but it will add complications to his offseason throwing program and will probably push back his timeline to join the starting rotation. Ohtani did not pitch at all in 2024 in his first year with the Blue after having Tommy John surgery on his right elbow in 2023. General manager Brandon Gomes said Ohtani's left-shoulder surgery isn't expected to have any "big-picture" impact on his ability to pitch in 2025. Entering October, he was close to facing live hitters for the first time since September of 2023, but the team decided to delay the rest of his throwing progression until the offseason.

Gavin Lux  • 2B  •  Dodgers

Gavin Lux The Odd-Man Out In 2025?

With Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts expected to move back to the infield and likely at second base next season, infielder Gavin Lux appears to be the odd-man out. Lux will especially be the odd-man out of the Dodgers end up bringing free-agent outfielder Teoscar Hernandez back. If the Dodgers don't decide to trade Lux this offseason, he'll most likely head to the bench if Betts becomes the primary second baseman in 2025. The Dodgers have both veteran Miguel Rojas and Tommy Edman as options to play shortstop. Lux was much better offensively in the second half of the regular season but struggled mightily at the plate in the first half and in the playoffs. The 26-year-old left-handed hitter batted .251/.320/.383 with a below-average .703 OPS, a career-high 10 homers, 50 RBI and five steals in 139 regular-season games after missing all of 2023 due to injury.

Mookie Betts To Play Infield For The Dodgers In 2025

Los Angeles Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes stated Wednesday that the team will play Mookie Betts on the infield in 2025. The 32-year-old played mostly outfield for the Dodgers in 2021 and 2022, but started on the infield in almost half of his games played in 2023. In 2024, the veteran started on the infield in 73 of the 116 (63%) games he played, split between shortstop (61) and second base (12). It is important to note, but he'll be a top tier fantasy producer regardless of position, however, it could come to the detriment of Gavin Lux and others who played the middle infield for the reigning World Series champs in the second half of the season.

Shohei Ohtani Undergoes Arthroscopic Shoulder Surgery

Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani (shoulder) underwent successful arthroscopic surgery to repair a labrum tear, according to the team. Ohtani is expected to be ready in time for Spring Training. The superstar suffered this injury due to a dislocated shoulder during the World Series. However, he was able to play through it en route to winning his first championship. Fantasy managers should monitor his progression leading up to Spring Training in case he faces a setback. Operating as a pure hitter in 2024, Ohtani established the 50-50 club with an impressive .310/.390/.646 slash line. The 30-year-old will likely be a consensus top selection this year in drafts as he is expected to return to the mound, providing elite fantasy production both as a pitcher and a hitter.

Miguel Rojas  • SS  •  Dodgers

Dodgers Pick Up Miguel Rojas' 2025 Option

The Los Angeles Dodgers exercised shortstop Miguel Rojas' $5 million club option for the 2025 season on Saturday. Although Rojas finished the team's World Series championship season battling a groin injury, the 2024 campaign was a very successful one for the 35-year-old veteran Venezuelan infielder. Known mostly for his glove at the 6, Rojas impressed in 103 regular-season games in his second year in Hollywood with a .283/.337/.410 slash line, six home runs, 36 RBI, eight stolen bases and 41 runs scored. He will need surgery on his torn groin this offseason, but he should be recovered in time to be ready for the start of the 2025 regular season, where he'll once again serve as a solid defender for the Blue at shortstop. Fantasy managers in NL-only leagues shouldn't expect Rojas to swing the bat as well as he did in 2024, though.

Austin Barnes  • C  •  Dodgers

Austin Barnes Returning To Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Dodgers are exercising their 2025 club option on catcher Austin Barnes, according to Robert Murray of FanSided. In his tenth season as a Los Angeles Dodger, Barnes posted a .264/.331/.307 slash line with one home run, 11 RBI, and three stolen bases in 54 games, serving as the clear backup to Will Smith. Fantasy managers should expect the 34-year-old to return to a similar role in the 2025 campaign. Barnes should not be on your fantasy radar heading into the offseason due to his sparse playing time and limited offensive output throughout his MLB career.

Clayton Kershaw To Undergo Two Surgeries

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw is set to undergo two surgeries on Wednesday, one on his toe and the other on his meniscus in his left knee according to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic. The 36-year-old was able to only log 30 innings of work this season as he was limited by numerous injuries. As a result the 36-year-old remains without a definite timetable heading into the 2025 campaign. Earlier in October, the three-time Cy Young Winner and now two-time World Champion noted that he intends to pitch in 2025 as he sits just 32 strikeouts away from 3,000. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor the southpaw's progression over the offseason as he may have another delayed start to his season.

Freddie Freeman Drives In Two More Runs, Earns World Series MVP Honors

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman was down in the count 1-2 versus Yankees starter Gerrit Cole in the fifth inning of Game 5 of the World Series on Wednesday when he singled to center, driving in two runs in what would end up being a five-run inning for the Dodgers that would tie the game 5-5. Los Angeles would ultimately go on to win 7-6, securing their eighth World Series title, and Freeman would go on to win World Series MVP. The 35-year-old finished the series 6-for-20 (.300) with home runs in each of the first four games, striking out just once and walking twice, while adding 12 RBI along the way. It was the exclamation point on another fine season for the future Hall of Famer, and with an offseason of rest, he should be able to get his hobbled ankle back to full health for the 2025 campaign.

Tommy Edman Extends Hitting Streak To Eight Games

Los Angeles Dodgers utility man Tommy Edman went 2-for-4 with a double and a home run in Game 2 of the World Series. Edman has now tallied at least one hit in each of the past eight games and tallied at least two hits in each of the past five. Throughout October, Edman has been one of the most consistent bats in the Dodger lineup as he currently holds a stellar .365/.358/.577 slash line with two home runs, 13 RBI, and four stolen bases. His impressive 11 RBI during the NLDS earned him MVP honors in that series. The veteran utility man will continue to be a popular pick in DFS contests given his incredible stretch on Monday evening when he faces Yankee right-hander Clarke Schmidt.

Freddie Freeman Goes Deep Again In Game 2

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman went 1-for-4 with a solo shot in Game 2 of the World Series. After hitting the game-winning grand slam in Game 1, Freeman continued to showcase his power, and now holds a two-game home run streak. The 35-year-old did not go deep earlier in the playoffs and only tallied one RBI and no extra-base hits. However, in the first two games of the World Series, the infielder has brought in five runs with three extra-base hits. Freeman will be a popular pick in DFS on Monday evening when he is expected to face Clarke Schmidt who holds a 3.86 ERA during October.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto  • SP  •  Dodgers

Yoshinobu Yamamoto Earns Victory In Game 2

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto tossed six 1/3 frames of one run ball en route to earning the victory in Game 2 of the World Series. He allowed just one hit, two walks, and struck out four. His lone blemish came off a solo shot from Juan Soto in the third inning. Since allowing five earned runs in his postseason debut, the right-hander has been exceptional and has allowed just three runs across his most recent 15 2/3 frames. DFS players should expect the 26-year-old to get another opportunity to start if the series returns to Los Angeles in Games 6 or 7.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto Getting Starting Nod In Game 2

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto will get the starting nod in Game 2 of the World Series in hopes to extend their series lead. After struggling in his postseason debut, the right-hander has performed exceptionally well as he has tossed nine 1/3 frames in two outings and allowed only two runs and six hits in this span. In addition, he has only walked two batters while striking out ten in this stretch. When Yamamoto faced this Yankee lineup in June, he allowed just two hits across seven shutout frames. Given his past performance against them and his previous two postseason outings, Yamamoto will be a popular pick this evening in DFS as he looks to put the Dodgers two games ahead in the series.

Enrique Hernández  • 3B  •  Dodgers

Kike Hernandez Expected To Remain In Starting Lineup During World Series

Los Angeles Dodgers utility man Kike Hernandez is expected to remain in the starting lineup during the World Series according to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic. Hernandez was given the starting nod in the series opener in center field. During October, the 33-year-old has been one of the best bats in the lineup as he has carried an impressive .306/.375/.528 slash line with two home runs, five RBI, and a 3:9 BB:K ratio. On Friday, Hernandez went 1-for-3 with a triple. DFS players should always consider adding Hernandez to their lineup given his hot stretch and the ample scoring opportunities he has batting in the heart of the lineup. On Saturday evening, he will face southpaw Carlos Rodon who has posted a 4.40 ERA and 1.12 WHIP during the postseason.

Freddie Freeman Hits First Ever Walk-Off Grand Slam In World Series

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman played the hero in Game 1 of the World Series, hitting a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the 10th to send the crowd into a frenzy and give the Dodgers a 6-3 win. Freeman demolished the first pitch he saw from lefty Nestor Cortes, who was brought in to get Freeman and Shohei Ohtani out. The 35-year-old etches his name into the history books with this moment, becoming the first player to hit a walk-off grand slam in the World Series. What makes the moment even more surreal is that Freeman is nursing an ankle injury, akin to Kirk Gibson's famous walk-off homer in the 1988 Fall Classic where he was nursing multiple leg injuries. Freeman and the Dodgers will look to get back at it in Game 2 on Saturday.

Freddie Freeman Returns To Dodgers Lineup

Los Angeles Dodger first baseman Freddie Freeman (ankle) is in the lineup for Game 1 of the World Series against the New York Yankees on Friday. Freeman has been nursing an ankle injury since the final week of the regular season and has missed a few postseason games, including Game 6 of the NLCS. The extra week of rest before the World Series provided Freeman with enough time to get to a point where he can play, but he likely won't be at 100%. Either way, Freeman provides the Dodgers with another excellent bat that they will need against Gerrit Cole.

Alex Vesia, Brusdar Graterol, Miguel Rojas Return To Dodgers Roster

Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitchers Alex Vesia (ribs) and Brusdar Graterol (shoulder), and infielder Miguel Rojas (hernia) are all on the team's roster for the World Series. Vesia hurt his rib cage in the NLDS and was left off the roster for the NLCS, but is ready to rock and will likely be used in high-leverage situations against lefties Juan Soto and Jazz Chisholm. Graterol (shoulder) hasn't pitched since landing on the IL in late September with right-shoulder inflammation, but has been working his way back and should be used in a high-leverage role after a dominant regular season. Rojas has already said he will need offseason surgery to repair a sports hernia, but will play through the injury and try to provide the Dodgers with stellar defense when he plays. Kevin Kiermaier, Evan Phillips (arm fatigue), and Edgardo Henriquez were removed from the World Series roster to make room for the trio.

Evan Phillips  • RP  •  Dodgers

Evan Phillips Not On Dodgers World Series Roster

Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Evan Phillips (arm fatigue) is not on the World Series roster. Phillips is dealing with "dead arm" in his right arm that popped up during Game 6 of the NLCS. He was taken out of that game earlier than expected and the feeling hasn't improved since, causing the Dodgers to leave him off their roster. It is a big loss for Los Angeles, as Phillips was a reliable late-inning arm who hadn't given up a run in 6 IP this postseason. Fortunately, the team will get back Alex Vesia and Brusdar Graterol to make up for the loss of Phillips.
