Blake Snell Progresses to Throwing Off of a Mound

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Blake Snell (shoulder) is "taking the next steps" in his throwing progression and threw off the mound to a standing catcher on Monday, per David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports. Snell is unlikely to be ready for Opening Day, as the team is slow-playing his Spring buildup after he missed significant time in 2025 due to shoulder issues. However, it appears as though the 33-year-old is on track with the progression that the team has laid out for him. When healthy, Snell is one of the best pitchers in baseball. Across 1,158 career big league innings (222 starts), the veteran left-hander owns a 3.15 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 1,440 strikeouts, and two Cy Young Awards. However, Snell has thrown more than 128 2/3 innings just once since 2019 and seems likely to miss a chunk of time in 2026 as well. He profiles as a high-risk, high-reward fantasy SP3 heading into his second campaign with the Dodgers.

Roki Sasaki  • SP  •  Dodgers

Roki Sasaki Expected to Open the Season in Starting Role

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Roki Sasaki is expected to open his second year in the big leagues in 2026 as a starting pitcher, per Jack Vita of the Los Angeles Times. "I don't see a world in which Roki Sasaki doesn't [open the season] as a starter," manager Dave Roberts said. Sasaki only appeared in 10 games (eight starts) in his first big-league season in 2025 during the regular season, allowing 18 earned runs on 30 hits (six homers) while walking 22 and striking out 28 in 36 1/3 innings pitched. The 24-year-old Japanese hurler then made nine appearances in the postseason as the Dodgers' closer, giving up just one earned run while recording three saves in 10 2/3 frames. He hasn't looked great in his two Cactus League starts, allowing seven earned runs while walking five and striking out five in 3 1/3 innings. Control continues to be the biggest issue for Sasaki, who could eventually be moved back to a bullpen role in 2026 when lefty Blake Snell (shoulder) makes his season debut.

Josue De Paula  • CF  •  Dodgers

Josue De Paula Sent to Minor-League Camp

Los Angeles Dodgers outfield prospect Josue De Paula was assigned to minor-league camp on Sunday. The team's No. 1-ranked prospect (according to MLB.com) was unlikely to make the MLB roster out of spring training but was given a small taste of MLB action. During spring training, De Paula posted a strong .375/.464/.417 line across 14 games. Fantasy managers should expect the No. 15-ranked prospect in the sport to begin the 2026 regular season with Double-A Tulsa. In 2025, De Paula spent most of his season with High-A Great Lakes before earning a short four-game stint at Double-A. With High-A, De Paula posted .263/.406/.421 line with 12 home runs and eight stolen bases. While a 2026 MLB debut seems unlikely, he could be in the mix for a first-half promotion to Triple-A if he continues this trajectory.

Kyle Tucker  • RF  •  Dodgers

Kyle Tucker is Expected to Return on Sunday

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Kyle Tucker (personal) is expected to rejoin the organization on Sunday. Tucker has been away from the team for a little under a week while his wife gave birth to their first child. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Tucker is expected to serve as the designated hitter on Sunday. He figures to return to the outfield in a few days once he gets his conditioning back up. The 2026 season will mark Tucker's first year with the Dodgers after signing a four-year deal over the offseason. He's hopeful to improve offensively after posting a "down year" in terms of his superstar numbers in 2025. Tucker slashed .266/.377/.464 with 22 home runs, 73 RBI, and 25 stolen bases in 134 games with the Chicago Cubs last season. He should be considered a top 10 fantasy hitter heading into the 2026 campaign.

River Ryan  • SP  •  Dodgers

River Ryan in Serious Consideration for Starting Role

Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed pitching prospect River Ryan is in consideration for a starting position in the rotation to begin the 2026 MLB season, according to Courtney Hollmon of MLB.com. With Blake Snell (elbow) expected to miss the start of the season and Gavin Stone (shoulder) sidelined, Ryan could carve out a role at the back of the rotation. The 27-year-old underwent Tommy John in August of 2024 but is fully healthy to begin 2026. In 2024, he made his MLB debut, logging 20 1/3 innings while looking quite comfortable, posting a 1.33 ERA and 1.18 WHIP. Through the early part of spring, Ryan has logged three scoreless frames with a 4:2 K:BB. Ryan is a name to monitor closely in deeper 12+ team formats, as he could hold early-season streaming appeal if he earns a starting role.

Emmet Sheehan  • SP  •  Dodgers

Emmet Sheehan Behind in Camp Due to Illness

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Emmet Sheehan (illness) "figures to be a leading candidate" for one of the final two spots in the team's Opening Day starting rotation this year, but he's a bit behind schedule in camp after dealing with a sickness, according to Jack Harris of The California Post. Along with Sheehan, River Ryan and Justin Wrobleski are candidates to open the year in L.A.'s rotation. The 26-year-old Sheehan is very intriguing for mixed-league starting fantasy rotations after going 6-3 last year with a 2.82 ERA (2.93 FIP) and 0.97 WHIP with 89 strikeouts and 22 walks in 73 1/3 innings over 15 regular-season appearances (12 starts). Sheehan should make his Cactus League debut soon, and he still has time to get ready for Opening Day in late March. The former sixth-rounder has No. 3 starter upside in fantasy; the only problem is that he's not a lock to stick in the rotation all year long.

Bobby Miller  • SP  •  Dodgers

Bobby Miller Throws Off Mound Tuesday

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Bobby Miller (shoulder) threw off a mound on Tuesday for the first time this spring. Per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, it was only about 10 throws, although it was not off the rubber, and the catcher was standing. The right-hander has been dealing with right shoulder soreness, which has slowed his ability to get up to speed this spring. So long as there are no setbacks, the 26-year-old should be ready by Opening Day, however, it could be with Triple-A Oklahoma City, not Los Angeles. The former first-rounder is being viewed as a reliever this season after splitting time as both a starter and reliever in 2025 while spending most of the campaign at Triple-A. The 6-foot-5 hurler struggled to a 5.66 ERA and 1.56 WHIP last year, and didn't show much better splits as a reliever compared to his time as a starter. With a 14.9 percent walk rate in 2025, he'll need to get his command under control before working his way back to the major leagues.

Kyle Hurt  • RP  •  Dodgers

Kyle Hurt Being Viewed as Reliever

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Kyle Hurt isn't being considered for a starting rotation spot, according to Bill Plunkett. Manager Dave Roberts said on Monday that Hurt is competing for a bullpen spot. Hurt came into the league as a starting pitcher, but he underwent Tommy John surgery in 2024. He has been working as a reliever since then, and that'll probably be his easiest path to making it to the big league roster. The Dodgers already have a handful of pitchers competing for the final two spots in the starting rotation. Hurt only pitched in seven games at Triple-A Oklahoma City last season. The Dodgers will likely want to see more of him as a reliever at the minor league level before promoting him, but we'll see if he can impress them in camp.

Gavin Stone  • SP  •  Dodgers

Gavin Stone has "Setback" With his Shoulder, "Paused" From Throwing

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Gavin Stone (shoulder) had a "setback" with his shoulder and is "paused" from throwing right now in camp, manager Dave Roberts told Jack Harris of The California Post. Roberts said Stone's surgically-repaired shoulder was bothering him after last week's Cactus League start and subsequent bullpen session. Harris adds that it "probably scuttles his chances for Opening Day." It's not good news for the 27-year-old hurler, who had surgery to fix a full capsule tear and partial tears of his labrum and rotator cuff. It caused Stone to miss the entire 2025 season, and he most likely will open on the injured list again in 2026. The former fifth-rounder in 2020 out of Central Arkansas debuted in 2023 (eight appearances) in the big leagues before going 11-5 with a 3.53 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 116:37 K:BB in 25 starts (140 1/3 frames) in 2024. Even if Stone recovers to pitch this year, his fantasy upside will be limited with expected workload restrictions.

Bobby Miller  • SP  •  Dodgers

Bobby Miller Being Viewed as Reliever

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Bobby Miller is reportedly being viewed as a reliever to begin the season. Miller started his professional career as a starting pitcher, but saw action as both a starter and reliever last season. Miller only pitched in two big league games last season and spent most of his time in the minors. He registered a 5.86 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, and an 83/61 K/BB ratio across 35 games (14 starts) in Triple-A Oklahoma City in 2025. The 26-year-old says that he's open to whatever role because he wants to spend his entire career in Los Angeles. Miller has shown flashes of success, but a lack of command has hindered him from having long-term success. Hopefully, a move to a full-time bullpen role will be the key to unlocking his potential.

Keston Hiura  • 1B  •  Dodgers

Keston Hiura Exits After Getting Hit by Pitch

Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Keston Hiura (hand) was forced to make an early exit from Saturday's Cactus League matchup against the Chicago Cubs. Hiura exited immediately after taking a 97-mph sinker off his hand during the fifth inning of Saturday's contest. The severity of the injury is unknown, but Hiura is likely going to at least miss a few days. The 29-year-old is attempting to make the roster as a bench player, but has an uphill battle ahead of him. Hiura spent most of his time in Triple-A Albuquerque with the Colorado Rockies organization last season. He slashed .272/.369/.507 with 21 home runs and 67 RBI in 100 games. He hasn't seen significant big league action since the 2022 season with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Hyeseong Kim  • 2B  •  Dodgers

Hyeseong Kim's Rebuilt Swing Already Generating Results

Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Hyeseong Kim rebuilt his swing from the ground up in the offseason after struggling with big-league pitching in his first year in the league in 2025, according to Jack Harris of The California Post. Hitting coach Aaron Bates said Kim's swing last year was too "twisted," and his inability to adjust to breaking pitches made him vulnerable. Dodgers coaches worked to get the 5-foot-10 South Korean native to use the "ground to generate more of his power and stability," and they also made subtle adjustments to keep him "squared up to the ball longer." In his first four Cactus League games, Kim has gone 6-for-13 with a home run. The 27-year-old has really impressed this spring, putting him in position for a more prominent role in 2026. Kim didn't make the Opening Day roster last year. He finished with a .280 batting average, but it came with a .699 OPS and 30.6% strikeout rate. With Tommy Edman (ankle) set to start on the injured list, Kim has made a strong case to open the year in a utility role on the big-league roster.

Blake Snell Making Progress, Will be "Hard" to be Ready for Opening Day

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that left-hander Blake Snell (shoulder) has been making progress in his throwing progression in camp, but he's been limited to flat-ground work so far, according to Jack Harris of The California Post. Roberts acknowledged that, given the calendar, it will be "hard" for Snell to be ready for Opening Day at the end of March. Although the 33-year-old two-time Cy Young winner finished last season healthy and as a World Series champion, he admitted that he was gassed after missing four months due to left-shoulder issues during the regular season. Snell isn't dealing with a shoulder injury this spring, but the Dodgers are slow-playing so that he can be healthy for the entire 2026 campaign. He most likely will not be part of L.A.'s Opening Day starting rotation, and when he does debut in April, he will probably be on an inning limit. It might make Snell more of a value pick in upcoming drafts. He's still worthy of a SP3 spot for his strikeout upside on the best team in baseball.

Roki Sasaki  • SP  •  Dodgers

Roki Sasaki Hit Hard in Spring Debut

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Roki Sasaki allowed three runs, three hits, and two walks in 1 1/3 innings in his Cactus League debut on Wednesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. It wasn't a good start to spring action for Sasaki, who is trying to win a starting rotation spot going into his second MLB season. The Japanese hurler had a 4.46 ERA (5.80 FIP) and 1.43 WHIP with 28 strikeouts and 22 walks in 36 1/3 innings over 10 appearances (eight starts) during the regular season last year before becoming a key piece at the back end of L.A.'s bullpen during their run to a second straight World Series championship. Sasaki struck out three on Wednesday, but he threw only 17 of his 36 pitches for strikes. His fastball topped out at 98.6 mph. Manager Dave Roberts thought Sasaki was overthrowing, but he's not too worried after just one spring outing. The 24-year-old's upside is intriguing, but until he figures out his control issues, he'll be a wild card in fantasy.

River Ryan  • SP  •  Dodgers

River Ryan Making a Case for Starting Role

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander River Ryan (elbow) made his return from Tommy John surgery on Wednesday in Cactus League action by retiring two of the three batters he faced against the Arizona Diamondbacks, including a strikeout of third baseman Nolan Arenado, according to Jack Harris of The California Post. Ryan hit 98 mph with his fastball and showed six different pitches overall. Harris writes that Ryan is battling for a potential Opening Day rotation spot in camp. The 27-year-old former 11th-round pick by the San Diego Padres in 2021 out of the University of North Carolina at Pembroke has only four major-league starts under his belt when he debuted with the Dodgers in 2024. The former position player has enough upside to be worth stashing in NL-only leagues. In his four starts in 2024, Ryan had an impressive 1.33 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and 18:9 K:BB in 20 1/3 innings with a 50% ground-ball rate.

Opening Day Not a Target for Blake Snell

The Athletic's Katie Woo writes that Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Blake Snell's (shoulder) Opening Day status is "in doubt." There is no real update on him, other than he's throwing off flat ground in camp. "Time's ticking, but like I told him the other day, Opening Day is not necessarily a hard and fast target for us," manager Dave Roberts said. Snell, 33, missed four months in 2025 due to left-shoulder inflammation and admitted that he was exhausted after an extended postseason run in October, which is why the Dodgers aren't making it a necessity that he be fully stretched out for Opening Day. Even if Snell were to land on the injured list to begin the regular season, it would likely be a short stay on the sidelines. The two-time Cy Young winner was solid when available for the Dodgers last year, going 5-4 with a 2.35 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, and 72:26 K:BB, but he only made 11 starts in the regular season. Snell is a risk/reward No. 3 fantasy starting pitcher because of his injury history.

Shohei Ohtani  • DH  •  Dodgers

Shohei Ohtani Throws Live Batting Practice on Sunday

Los Angeles Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani was able to throw a live batting practice session without any issues on Sunday. Ohtani threw 33 pitches across two innings of work and touched 99 mph on his fastball. This is expected to be the last time that Ohtani will throw for the Dodgers in camp. He'll now leave to join Team Japan for the upcoming World Baseball Classic. It doesn't sound like Ohtani will pitch in the tourney, so he likely won't take the mound again until the start of the regular season. The Dodgers might ease Ohtani in, but he should be a solid No. 2 starter in fantasy once he's fully stretched out.

Jack Suwinski  • RF  •  Dodgers

Dodgers Claim Jack Suwinski Off Waivers From Pirates

The Los Angeles Dodgers claimed outfielder Jack Suwinski off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday, a source told Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic. Suwinski could be back on waivers before the start of the 2026 regular season, as he's out of minor-league options and is likely to face an uphill battle to make the Dodgers' Opening Day roster out of spring training. The 27-year-old center fielder has hit under .200 in his four big-league seasons in Pittsburgh and slashed just .147/.281/.253 with a career-worst .534 OPS, three home runs, 10 RBI, 15 runs scored, seven steals, and 57 strikeouts in 178 plate appearances over a career-low 59 games in 2025. Suwinski has decent plate discipline, but he has simply been overmatched by big-league pitchers, especially the last two seasons. If he sticks around with the Dodgers, he'll provide minor-league outfield depth at Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Feb 21
Shohei Ohtani  • DH  •  Dodgers

Shohei Ohtani Might Not be Fully Built Up as a Pitcher by Opening Day

MLB.com's Sonja Chen suggests that Los Angeles Dodgers two-way superstar and four-time MVP Shohei Ohtani is fully expected to begin the 2026 regular season in the starting rotation, but he has limited time to build up as a pitcher while representing Team Japan exclusively as a hitter in the upcoming World Baseball Classic. The Dodgers could use someone like Justin Wrobleski in long relief behind Ohtani as they build up his pitch count early in the season. The 31-year-old didn't make his debut as a pitcher for the Dodgers last year until June after recovering from Tommy John surgery, and L.A. eased him in slowly. Ohtani had a 2.87 ERA (1.90 FIP) and 1.04 WHIP with 62 K's and just nine walks in 47 innings over 14 starts during the regular season. His upside will be limited on the mound early on in 2026 as he's being eased in, but once he's fully stretched out, Ohtani should at least be a solid No. 2 starter in fantasy.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto  • SP  •  Dodgers

Yoshinobu Yamamoto to Start on Saturday

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto is scheduled to take the mound versus the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday. This is likely going to be his only start before he joins Team Japan for the World Baseball Classic. Yamamoto probably won't pitch long during Saturday's game, but at least fans will get to see him face a few batters. The 27-year-old is coming off a fantastic 2025 campaign with the Dodgers. He posted a 2.49 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and a 201/59 K/BB ratio across 30 starts with the Dodgers last season. Yamamoto is a top-five fantasy starting pitcher heading into the 2026 campaign.
