River Ryan Nearing Injury Return and Could Be a Candidate for MLB Roster

Detroit Tigers pitching prospect River Ryan is recovering from a right hamstring strain that he suffered before he was traded from the Los Angeles Dodgers to the Tigers in the Tarik Skubal trade. He has been on the IL and rehabbing with the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens. Ryan could make a return and potentially pitch for the Tigers. Or the Tigers could leave him at Toledo and give him more work in the minors. It is a little bit of a risky dilemma for fantasy managers. Should they take a chance on Ryan who already made his major league debut with the Dodgers? With Oklahoma City, in the Pacific Coast League, Ryan was 3-1 this year with a 4.46 ERA and 1.29 WHIP to go with 43 strikeouts in 36 1/3 innings pitched. Ryan is 28 years old and has brief MLB experience back in 2024. The Tigers could give him another look at the end of this year. Fantasy managers will want to pay attention.

River Ryan Not on Stash Radar Without Clear Return Timeline

Detroit Tigers pitching prospect River Ryan (hamstring) was injured during his time in the Dodgers' organization and was placed on the injured list back on June 26 with an ailing hamstring. Since then, there has been little update on his progress other than that he was throwing off a mound before being traded away in the Tarik Skubal deal. Assuming the Tigers' newly anointed top pitching prospect will need to face some live hitters and make a rehab start or two before being assigned to Triple-A Toledo (or perhaps Detroit), it makes a September return the most optimistic of scenarios. The 6-foot-2 hurler was showing well outside of one blowup start before going down with injury, and had an impressive debut with the Dodgers back in 2024, so there is a lot to like in his profile, but without a clear timeline for return, there is little reason to stash the 27-year-old in most redraft leagues.

River Ryan Remains Shelved with Hamstring Injury

Detroit Tigers pitching prospect River Ryan (hamstring) has yet to pitch for his new team after being dealt from the Dodgers in the Tarik Skubal trade as he recovers from a hamstring injury. The right-hander was placed on the injured list on June 26 and hasn't pitched since June 17. The former 11th-rounder was seemingly headed toward a recall to the majors (he debuted in 2024), sporting a 2.81 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and a 24.6 percent K-BB% in seven starts before he melted down for eight earned runs on 10 hits, a walk, and a hit batter in his final start before the injury. Without a clear timeline for return, a late-season return to the majors seems like the best-case scenario, but 2027 might be more realistic at this point. Either way, there is little reason to stash him in redraft leagues at this point.

Dodgers Send Top Pitching Prospect River Ryan to Detroit

The Los Angeles Dodgers are trading right-handed pitching prospect River Ryan, alongside fellow right-hander Brady Smith and outfielder Zyhir Hope, to the Detroit Tigers in exchange for starting pitcher Tarik Skubal, per Jeff Passan of ESPN. While Hope is the headliner of this deal, Ryan holds high upside on his own. Ryan made his MLB debut in 2024 but logged only 20 1/3 innings with a sharp 1.33 ERA. However, the right-hander then underwent Tommy John surgery, which kept him off the field for all of 2025. Through 2026, Ryan has also been limited due to injuries but has been effective when on the Triple-A bump. With Detroit likely selling off other veteran pieces, Ryan should be in a great position to contend for his second MLB stint once he returns from his current hamstring injury. He is worth closely monitoring as he could emerge as a top stash candidate in the coming weeks.

River Ryan Could be Worth a Late-Season Stash

Los Angeles Dodgers pitching prospect River Ryan (hamstring) is sidelined by a hamstring injury and is missing time on the injured list at Triple-A Oklahoma City. He was placed on the injured list at the end of June and hasn't pitched since. The 27-year-old right-hander boasts a 65-grade fastball, a 60-grade slider, and a 55-grade cutter and curveball. The stuff is there for the minor league veteran. Should he be able to work past his current injury, he might find his way back in Los Angeles after making his brief MLB debut in 2024. In 36 1/3 innings with Oklahoma City, Ryan has compiled a 3-1 record this season with a 4.46 ERA and 1.29 WHIP with 43 strikeouts against just eight walks. That kind of control is a good sign moving forward, and he should be in L.A. this summer if he can demonstrate full health. It could be a good move to stash him now.

River Ryan Still Worth Stashing Amid Stint on Injured List?

Los Angeles Dodgers pitching prospect River Ryan (hamstring) has been sidelined since late June with a hamstring injury and is still without a clear return timetable. The Dodgers have stated that they don't believe it is a serious injury, but appear to be taking it very slow with their top-ranked pitching prospect. Right now, the Dodgers aren't in need of an arm, and Blake Snell is nearing a return from the injured list, so there is no need to rush Ryan along. The team would want to make sure he's healthy for more meaningful games, potentially in August and September, not to mention the right-hander missed all of 2025 recovering from Tommy John, so they likely wanted to limit his workload anyway. The 27-year-old debuted with the team back in 2024 with good results, and was poised for another promotion before the hamstring injury, pitching to a 2.81 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and a 24.6 percent K-BB% over his first seven starts before an eight-run meltdown in his final start prior to hitting the IL. Once he makes a return to the mound and shows he's back to early-season form, the right-hander could become a stash candidate for fantasy again, but for now, there's no need to stash him.

Should Managers Still Stash Dodgers Top Pitching Prospect River Ryan?

Los Angeles Dodgers pitching prospect River Ryan put himself at the top of the stash rankings during the first half of the season, as he was not only flashing elite potential at the Triple-A level but also had a clear path to MLB innings. With both Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow on the shelf, Ryan appeared to be on the doorstep of returning to Los Angeles. However, on June 17, Ryan took a massive step back, serving up a season-worst eight earned runs and 10 hits before ultimately being placed on the 7-day injured list with a hamstring strain. Since moving to the IL, Ryan has not progressed in his recovery and is without a clear timetable. While managers should continue to monitor his status, it appears Ryan may face an uphill battle to return to the majors in 2026. With Blake Snell set to embark on his rehab stint, managers in all 12-team formats should no longer view Ryan as a viable stash target, as his path to MLB innings will be far more challenging down the stretch.

River Ryan Off the Stash Radar Amid Injury Concerns and Recent Struggles

Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed pitching prospect River Ryan (hamstring) finds himself on the minor-league injured list with Triple-A Oklahoma City after suffering a right-hamstring strain. Ryan also missed time with the injury in April, so his injury history is becoming a bit of a concern. The numbers are pretty good for Ryan in Oklahoma City this year, with a 3-1 record, a 4.46 ERA, and 43 strikeouts in 36 1/3 innings pitched. The strikeout rate is a good sign for Ryan, and the 27-year-old is working hard to be ready for his major league debut. The injuries have been troubling, though, as he also missed all of 2025 after undergoing Tommy John surgery. Ryan's three starts in June before landing on the injured list were subpar, with a 1-1 record and 8.16 ERA, including his latest start in which he gave up eight earned runs. Ryan, the No. 6 prospect in the Dodgers system, will likely need to show more consistency on the mound and with his health before he is considered for a call-up. For now, he is off the stash radar in all standard leagues.

Is River Ryan Still a Top Stash Target After Hitting the Injured List?

Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed pitcher River Ryan was flashing high upside at the Triple-A level before being placed on the 7-day IL with a hamstring strain. The right-handed pitcher battled injuries early in the season but was looking comfortable at the top club before being moved back to the injured list last week. From May 15 through June 10 (25 innings), the right-handed pitcher posted a strong 2.16 ERA and 1.00 WHIP with a 30:5 K:BB. However, he would serve up a season-worst eight earned runs on June 17, his final start before being moved to the IL. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his progress at Triple-A as he could compete for an early promotion after the All-Star break. Currently on the MLB roster, the Dodgers are without Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow, and another current starter, Roki Sasaki, is enduring significant growing pains at the major-league level. If Ryan can return to action and showcase similar upside, he could earn a spot in Los Angeles early in the second half.

River Ryan Lands on Minor-League Injured List With Hamstring Issue

Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed pitching prospect River Ryan (hamstring) is heading to the seven-day minor-league injured list with a hamstring issue, sources told Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic. Ryan missed time earlier in Triple-A Oklahoma City's season with hamstring trouble and had his start skipped this week. The 27-year-old former 11th-round pick by the San Diego Padres in 2021 out of the University of North Carolina at Pembroke is currently listed by MLB Pipeline as L.A.'s No. 6 prospect. He made his big-league debut with the Dodgers in 2024 and looked good in a small sample size of just four starts, allowing only four runs (three earned) on 15 hits while walking nine and striking out 18 in 20 1/3 innings pitched. In eight starts at OKC in 2026, Ryan has gone 3-1 with a 4.46 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and 43:8 K:BB in 36 1/3 innings pitched. It's a tough break for Ryan to go on the minor-league IL, but it doesn't mean he won't be an option for the Dodgers' starting rotation in the second half of the 2026 season. He's currently rostered in 11% of Yahoo leagues and is still a pitching prospect to stash in deeper leagues.
