River Ryan To Have Tommy John Surgery

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced on Tuesday that right-handed pitching prospect River Ryan (elbow) will have Tommy John surgery. It was already announced that Ryan would miss the rest of the 2024 season, but now he'll miss most, if not all, of next year as well. It's a tough blow for the Dodgers and for Ryan, who was ranked by MLB Pipeline as LA's No. 3 prospect. The 25-year-old former 11th-round pick of the San Diego Padres in 2021 out of University of North Carolina at Pembroke made his major-league debut this year and looked great, going 1-0 with a 1.33 ERA (3.38 FIP), a 1.18 WHIP and an 18:9 K:BB in his four starts (20 1/3 innings). It remains to be seen if he'll have an internal-brace procedure, but either way, Ryan will be off the redraft fantasy radar in 2025.

River Ryan Done For The Season

Los Angeles Dodgers rookie starting pitcher River Ryan (forearm, elbow) is officially done for the season, according to Dodgers skipper Dave Roberts. Ryan was lifted from his start on Saturday evening due to forearm tightness and was scheduled to hit the 15-day injured list on Sunday. However, the top prospect will now be sidelined for the remainder of the season. Roberts expressed that the team is still figuring out the next course of action. This is tough news for the 25-year-old, as he performed quite well through his first 20 major-league innings, holding a 1.33 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and a 9:18 BB:K. Landon Knack will be a favorite to rejoin the starting rotation and is worth a look in all standard fantasy leagues.

River Ryan Headed To The Injured List

Los Angeles Dodgers rookie starting pitcher River Ryan (forearm) will be placed on the injured list, according to Eric Stephen of SBNation.com. The extent of his injury is still not known, but the rookie will undergo an MRI later on Sunday. Ryan was removed early from his start on Saturday evening against the Pittsburgh Pirates due to forearm tightness. Prior to the injury, the right-hander looked quite comfortable through his first four major-league starts, holding a strong 1.33 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and a 9:18 BB:K. If Ryan were to miss an extended period of time, Landon Knack would likely slot into the Dodgers' starting rotation.

River Ryan Exits Early Saturday Night With Apparent Injury

Los Angeles Dodgers rookie starting pitcher River Ryan left the game Saturday night in the fifth inning with an apparent injury against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Manager Dave Roberts and the team trainer came out to the mound after Ryan threw a wide slider and appeared to be in discomfort. Ryan was immediately removed from the game but left under his power. It is hoped that details will become available after the game. Ryan is 1-0 with a 133 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP, and 22 strikeouts in 16 innings for the Dodgers this season.

River Ryan Earns No-Decision In Debut

Los Angeles Dodgers pitching prospect River Ryan lived up to expectations when he made his big-league debut versus the division rival San Francisco Giants on Monday evening. Ryan tossed 5 1/3 innings and allowed four hits, one run (zero earned), three walks and recorded two strikeouts in a no-decision. The Dodgers top pitching prospect held his own in the contest and it will be interesting to see what the club does moving forward with Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) set to return Thursday and the trade deadline approaching. Ryan would seem to have earned another start and if the comes, it would be come on Saturday against the Astros in Houston. With a good debut, Ryan is worth scooping up and holding in redraft leagues.

River Ryan Called Up To Make MLB Debut

The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled right-handed pitching prospect River Ryan from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Monday in order for him to start against the visiting division-rival San Francisco Giants in what will be his major-league debut. Ryan, who is listed as the team's No. 4 prospect per MLB Pipeline, missed the first two months in the minors with right-shoulder fatigue but returned to post a strong 2.76 ERA and 1.16 WHIP with 19 strikeouts and six walks in five starts in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. It remains to be seen if this is just a spot start for the 25-year-old, who has made just seven total starts in his minor-league career at the Triple-A level. Ryan has high-end upside in the long term in LA if he sticks as a starter, but there's also a chance his future could come as a high-leverage reliever.

River Ryan To Join Rotation After All-Star Break

Los Angeles Dodgers pitching prospect River Ryan is expected to be called up following the All-Star break. The 25-year-old has become one of the Dodgers' best pitching prospects. He holds a 2.21 ERA and a 27/7 K/BB across seven appearances (five starts) in Triple-A this season. The Dodgers haven't said whether Ryan is going to start or come out of the bullpen. However, it's save to assume Ryan should get a chance in the rotation given the Dodgers' injuries. He looks like he's worth a stash in fantasy leagues.

River Ryan Struggles In Season Debut

After beginning the year on the 60-day injured list with shoulder fatigue, Los Angeles Dodgers pitching prospect River Ryan was activated and made his season debut on Saturday. Ryan started the game, but struggled in his 2/3 of an inning by allowing three hits, two runs and one walk. Ryan was likely on a pitch count and exited after tossing 33 pitches. As one of the top arms in one of the best systems in baseball, the Dodgers are almost certain to take it easy with Ryan the rest of the way. Although he has a bright future ahead of him, Ryan is only an option in dynasty leagues.

River Ryan Impresses In Rehab Outing

Los Angeles Dodgers pitching prospect River Ryan (shoulder) began his rehab assignment in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League on Monday. Ryan has been sidelined on the 60-day injured list with right shoulder fatigue, but looked dominant in his return to the mound. Ryan tossed two scoreless innings with one walk and five strikeouts. It was a nice display for the club's No. 4 prospect per MLB Pipeline. In his previous two seasons on the farm, Ryan has worked mostly as a starting pitcher with a career-high 104 1/3 innings in 2023. The Dodgers are likely to bring him back slowly and he could be an option out of the bullpen this summer, but long-term, Ryan projects as a starting pitcher. As one of the better arms in a strong Dodgers system, Ryan remains a name for dynasty league managers to consider past this season.

River Ryan Might Not Return Until May Or June

Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed pitching prospect River Ryan (shoulder), who is ranked as the team's No. 5 prospect per MLB Pipeline, is currently on the 60-day injured list at Triple-A Oklahoma City due to right-shoulder fatigue and isn't expected to make his 2024 debut until late May or early June. Ryan suffered from shoulder fatigue in spring training, and the Dodgers are being extra cautious with one of their top pitching prospects. MLB's Jim Callis writes that the 25-year-old might have the deepest repertoire in LA's farm system despite being old for a prospect with just two starts at the Triple-A level. The former infielder was originally an 11th-round pick by the San Diego Padres in 2021 out of North Carolina at Pembroke. He had a 3.33 ERA and 1.25 WHIP with 44 walks and 98 K's in 97 1/3 innings at Double-A Tulsa last year. Ryan is strictly a dynasty/keeper stash for now.
