Tigers Place Riley Greene on Injured List With Hamstring Strain

The Detroit Tigers announced on Wednesday that they placed outfielder Riley Greene (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list with a strained right hamstring and selected the contract of outfielder Corey Julks from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move. With Greene out on Wednesday against the division-rival Cleveland Guardians and left-hander Foster Griffin, Ben Malgeri is starting in left field and will bat sixth. Malgeri, Julks, and James Outman could also see playing time in left field with Greene sidelined. The 25-year-old left-handed hitter tweaked his hamstring in Tuesday's game against Cleveland, and he'll be out for at least the next 10 days. Greene's injury coincides with a rough recent stretch at the plate in which he went 6-for-38 (.158) with a homer, a double, one RBI, nine runs scored, a stolen base, seven walks, and 14 strikeouts in his last 11 games, dating back to July 28. The former first-rounder and three-time All-Star has just 16 homers after clubbing 36 long balls and driving in 111 in 2025, but Greene should remain stashed in all fantasy baseball leagues while he recovers.

Riley Greene Dealing With Hamstring Injury

Detroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene (hamstring) left Tuesday's game early against the division-rival Cleveland Guardians due to tightness in his right hamstring, according to the team. Fantasy managers should consider Greene to be day-to-day for now and check back later on Wednesday to see if he's in the starting lineup for the contest against the visiting Guardians and left-hander Foster Griffin. The 25-year-old left-handed-hitting outfielder has sacrificed power for more contact in 2026 in his fifth year in the big leagues with Detroit, slashing .273/.366/.450 with an .816 OPS, 16 home runs, 54 RBI, 65 runs scored, and three stolen bases in 117 games across 492 plate appearances. The three-time All-Star (each of the last three years) had a career-best 36 long balls and 111 RBI in 157 regular-season games a year ago, so fantasy managers hoping for another 30-homer campaign in 2026 have been disappointed. Greene has struggled so far in August in eight games, going 6-for-28 (.214) with a homer, a double, an RBI, seven runs, three walks, and 12 strikeouts. Fantasy managers probably should expect him to sit out on Wednesday against a lefty, especially after tweaking his hamstring on Tuesday.

Riley Greene Continues Strong Season With Two Homers on Tuesday

Detroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene continued to swing the bat well this year in Tuesday's 9-3 victory on the road against the New York Yankees, going 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and a strikeout to boost his season average to .288 and his OPS to .828. The talented 25-year-old left-handed-hitting outfielder is now up to 11 home runs, 37 RBI, 43 runs scored, and a stolen base on the year while posting a .378 on-base percentage and .450 slugging percentage in his 309 at-bats in 2026. It was the two-time All-Star's first multi-home run game of the season in his fifth year in the league. Greene closed out the month of June in style and finished with a .258 average (24-for-93) with seven home runs, two doubles, 12 RBI, and 13 runs scored in 25 games and 109 plate appearances. He doesn't have much upside on the basepaths, with just 15 steals in four-plus MLB seasons, but he has a solid floor everywhere else, and it's encouraging that he's dropped his strikeout rate from a career-high 30.7% last year to 26.9% this year. Continue to roll him out there every day in fantasy lineups.

Riley Greene's Current Pathway to Production May Be Unsustainable

Across 232 plate appearances entering play on Thursday, Detroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene was hitting .305/.401/.440 with four home runs, 25 RBI, 30 runs scored, and one stolen base. While Greene has been a productive hitter, his power output has come down considerably from where it was in 2025, when he clubbed 36 home runs across 655 plate appearances. Greene's barrel rate is down from 17.1% last season to 12.6% this season. As the weather heats up in Detroit, Greene could find more power. However, if he doesn't, his current path to production may be unsustainable. With a 28% strikeout rate and a heavily inflated .435 batting average on balls in play, Greene's batting average seems likely to regress closer to his career mark of .268 over the course of a full season. As a result, fantasy managers may want to consider selling high on Greene before he runs into some batting average regression.

Riley Greene Showing Improved Plate Skills Early in 2026, Poised for Career Year?

Across his first 98 plate appearances of 2026, Detroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene is hitting .265/.378/.386 with one home run, 14 RBI, 15 runs scored, and one stolen base. After his 36-homer campaign in 2025, Greene's lack of power early in the year is a bit surprising. However, his 13.8% barrel rate and 50% hard-hit rate remain stellar and signal that a home run-surge could be coming. Greene's improved plate skills are also an encouraging sign, as he's lowered his strikeout rate from 30.7% in 2025 to 22.4% while walking at a career-best 15.3% in 2026. The 25-year-old is also locked into an everyday role in the heart of the Detroit lineup, which should allow him to continue racking up counting stats. If Greene can avoid injury and maintain his improved control of the strike zone, he could be in line for a career year in 2026.

Will Riley Greene Continue to Sacrifice Contact for Power?

Detroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene took a more aggressive approach at the plate in 2025 in his fourth year in the big leagues, which led to career highs in home runs (36) and RBI (111), but also in strikeouts (201). Greene had a career-high 30.7% strikeout rate, although his average only dropped from .262 to .258. The 25-year-old left-handed slugger's OPS also dropped over 20 points, thanks to a career-low 7.1% walk rate. He swung at more pitches and also swung and missed more, but when he did make contact, he did damage with a 17.1% barrel rate. In addition to Greene's 36 homers and 111 RBI, he added a career-high 84 runs scored but stole just two bases. Greene has a total of 14 thefts in his four seasons, so fantasy managers can't count on that as part of his game. If his aggressive approach at the plate continues in 2026, Greene should have a high floor as a power threat and run-producer while maintaining a solid but unspectacular average. RotoBaller has him ranked as the No. 20 outfielder.

Riley Greene, Tigers Avoid Arbitration

Outfielder Riley Greene and the Detroit Tigers have agreed to a $5 million contract for 2026, avoiding arbitration, according to Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press. In 2025, Greene set a career high with 36 home runs, 111 RBI, and 84 runs while slashing .258/.313/.493, good for a 121 wRC+. Greene's new power-focused approach came with a cost, though, as he posted a career-high 30.7% strikeout rate, setting the record for most strikeouts in a single season in Tigers history. Looking ahead to 2026, if the 28-year-old from Florida maintains this approach, he is expected to hit around 30 home runs with a .250 batting average. At his current ADP of 73, he is a safe bet to return value as one of your top outfielders.

Riley Greene Resting for Tigers

Detroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene will step out of the starting lineup for Wednesday's series finale versus the hosting Pittsburgh Pirates with left-hander Bailey Falter on the bump at PNC Park. With Greene starting on the bench in this matinee contest, Matt Vierling will make the start in left field and hit fifth against Falter. Fantasy managers should expect to see Greene back in the fold for Thursday's series opener against the visiting Toronto Blue Jays at Comerica Park. The 24-year-old left-handed hitter has now made back-to-back All-Star appearances and has been a big reason why the Tigers are the best team in the American League in 2025. He enters play on Wednesday hitting .276/.325/.530 with an .855 OPS, a career-high 25 home runs, 79 RBI and 54 runs scored in 100 games, but he's also leading the league with 135 strikeouts.

Riley Greene Smacks 24th Home Run in Loss

Detroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene went deep for the second game in a row in an 8-4 loss to the Seattle Mariners on Sunday. Greene connected on a solo home run off left-hander Gabe Speier to give the Tigers a 4-3 advantage in the bottom of the seventh. Detroit's bullpen squandered the lead, but it was another productive day for Greene, who finished 2-for-4. While Greene has hit just .200 (9-for-45) this month, the 24-year-old has swatted five homers and picked up 15 RBI in that 12-game span. He earned his way to a second straight All-Star game in the first half of the season, slashing .284/.335/.544 with 78 RBI and 53 runs across 397 plate appearances. Greene's strikeout and walk rates have trended in the wrong direction in 2025, but he's nonetheless on track for a career year. He has already matched his HR total from 2024 and surpassed the 74 RBI he collected then. Only MVP candidates Cal Raleigh (82) and Aaron Judge (81) have driven in more runs than Greene.

Riley Greene Homers Twice, Drives in Six on Wednesday

Detroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene had a big day in the first game of his team's Wednesday doubleheader with the Washington Nationals. Greene went 2-for-5 with two homers and six RBI in the contest, an 11-2 win over Washington. He did not start in the second game of the doubleheader but entered as a pinch-hitter and ultimately went 0-for-2. Greene kicked off the scoring in Game 1 with a three-run homer in the first inning and later added another three-run shot to give the Tigers a 10-0 lead in the fourth. The veteran outfielder is having a breakout season, hitting .296 with 21 homers, 49 runs, 69 RBI, and one steal across 328 at-bats. He has been on fire of late, batting .383 with seven homers and 21 RBI over his past 15 contests. Greene has forced his way into the conversation as a must-start in fantasy outfields going forward.
