Dodgers Option Hyeseong Kim

The Los Angeles Dodgers have optioned infielder Hyeseong Kim to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Kim inked a three-year contract with the Dodgers in the offseason worth $12.5 million. However, he was unable to adjust to major-league pitching during camp and will open the season in the minor leagues to further his development. During his time in the Cactus League, Kim has gone 6-for-29 at the plate with only one of his going for extra bases. He held a 4:11 BB:K and swiped two bags. During camp, the 26-year-old revamped his swing to add more power potential but was unable to produce consistently. Overseas, Kim showcased elite contact skills but the Dodgers hope he can tap into more power upside. He held a stellar .326/.383/.458 during his final season in Japan. When he does get the call to the majors, he will likely see time as a utility option in the infield.

Hyeseong Kim Adjusting His Swing

Los Angeles Dodgers Korean rookie infielder Hyeseong Kim's slick-fielding defensive skills have transitioned well in his first big-league spring training, but it's his bat that needs to catch up as he looks to win a spot on the Opening Day roster. In 12 Cactus League at-bats entering this Thursday, Kim had just one hit on an infield single that was rolled over to the right side. The Dodgers have revamped the 26-year-old's swing and are looking to emphasize his bat-to-ball skills. L.A. is hoping to get a little more power out of Kim's bat after he posted just a .403 career slugging percentage in the Korean Baseball Organization. The focus has been to keep Kim's barrel in the strike zone as long as possible to allow for consistent contact. It's a work in progress, with Kim saying he feels it's "20, 30% to where I want it to be." The Dodgers have already left the door open for Kim to start the year in the minors, and they have other options at second base, including Tommy Edman, Enrique Hernandez and Miguel Rojas.

Hyeseong Kim Could Start In The Minors

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has left open the possibility that rookie infielder Hyeseong Kim starting the year in the minor leagues as he continues to make swing adjustments after coming over from Korea. General manager Brandon Gomes has also been non-committal about where Kim will begin the 2025 regular season, although there is still plenty of time left in spring training before any final decisions are made. If the 26-year-old starts the year at Triple-A Oklahoma City, Tommy Edman would likely be the favorite for most of the playing time at the keystone in L.A. Kim's glove is steady, but it sounds like the Dodgers might want to give him some more time to develop as a hitter in the minor leagues before exposing him to big-league pitching in 2025. Fantasy managers should think of him as very similar to Ha-Seong Kim, but without as much power.

Hyeseong Kim To See Work In Center Field

Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Hyeseong Kim is expected to see work in center field during spring training. Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic noted that Kim would also continue to see opportunities at second base and shortstop. The team views Kim's speed as a potential positive in center field. He would also provide them with a left-handed bat in center field for lineup construction purposes. The 26-year-old saw work in the overseas outfield but only in the corners. Earlier in the offseason, Kim signed a three-year $12.5 million contract with the Dodgers. Last season in the KBO, Kim held a .326/.383/.458 line with 11 home runs and 30 swiped bags. Fantasy managers should expect Kim to see most of his work at the keystone but could receive occasional starts in center field. When Kim is not in center field, Tommy Edman or Andy Pages will likely get the starting nod.

Hyeseong Kim Impressing Early On In Spring Training

Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Hyeseong Kim is leaving an impression on his teammates early on in camp, showing off the defense that allowed him to win four Golden Glove Awards while playing in the KBO. With the offseason departure of Gavin Lux, it is presumed that Kim will man the keystone for the Dodgers, however, he's also taking reps at third base and center field this spring, adding to his versatility. While he hit over .300 each of the last four seasons for the Kiwoom Heroes, ATC projections foresee just a .265 average with only modest HR, RBI, and R totals, however, he could be a sneaky source of steals if he can stay in the lineup, as ATC calls for 17 thefts in 2025 in just 109 games. He owns both 2B and SS eligibility on Yahoo, adding to his fantasy appeal.
