Edgardo Henriquez Begins Rehab Assignment

Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed pitching prospect Edgardo Henriquez (foot) began his rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on May 29. Henriquez has been sidelined throughout the first two months of the season on the 60-day IL with a foot injury. In his first taste of action, Henriquez struggled as he allowed one hit, one run, and two walks across 2/3 of an inning. Last season, the 22-year-old made his MLB debut and tossed three 1/3 innings of one-run ball with five punchouts. He spent time with each level of the minor leagues and posted a cumulative 2.72 ERA with a 1.23 across 53 innings of work. During this stretch, Henriquez struck out an impressive 88 batters and allowed just 29 walks. When he does return from the IL, he will likely compete for a middle relief role in the major league bullpen.

Edgardo Henriquez Will Not Be Ready For Opening Day

Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Edgardo Henriquez (foot) will not be ready for Opening Day. The right-handed pitcher was wearing a walking boot in the clubhouse after suffering a metatarsal injury. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his progression as he could return to action relatively early in the 2025 campaign. Last season, Henriquez made his MLB debut and allowed one earned run across three 1/3 innings of work. He tallied five punchouts and generated a 1.20 xERA and a .075 xBA. Last summer, Henriquez opened the campaign at Single-A and progressed through Triple-A before reaching the big leagues. In 12 2/3 innings at Triple-A, the 22-year-old held a 2.84 ERA with a 1.89 WHIP. He held a 10:18 BB:K ratio. When healthy, he should compete for a role in the Dodger bullpen.

Dodgers Call Up Edgardo Henriquez

The Los Angeles Dodgers called up pitching prospect Edgardo Henriquez from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday, according to sources. Henriquez had been on the Dodgers' radar for pitching help at the big-league level despite starting the 2024 season at Single-A Rancho Cucamonga. His fastball has been clocked at up to 104 mph this year, so he could become an option out of the bullpen to close out the final week of the regular season and for the playoffs in October when they're looking for a key late-inning punchout. The 22-year-old Venezuelan right-hander has posted a 2.72 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 88 strikeouts and 29 walks in 53 innings over 43 appearances (five starts) at four minor-league levels in 2024. The team's No. 15 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, obviously has swing-and-miss stuff at all levels, but his command could get him in trouble quickly.

Carlos Duran, Edgardo Henriquez Have Tommy John Surgery

Los Angeles Dodgers right-handers Carlos Duran (elbow) and Edgardo Henriquez (elbow) both recently underwent Tommy John surgery and will miss all of the 2023 season next year. The two big, hard-throwing righties were among the team's top pitching prospects at the Single-A levels. According to MLB Pipeline, Duran is ranked as the club's No. 19 prospect, with Henriquez checking in at No. 23. In 14 outings (13 starts) for High-A Great Lakes this year, Duran had a 4.25 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, 68 strikeouts and 24 walks in 48 2/3 innings. Henriquez, 20, also made 14 appearances (13 starts) for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga and posted a 4.54 ERA, 1.59 WHIP, 44 strikeouts and 18 walks in 35 2/3 frames.
