Is Roki Sasaki Still a Breakout Candidate to Target on the Waiver Wire?

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Roki Sasaki had a rough outing in his most recent start against the Chicago White Sox on June 12, allowing seven earned runs across 4 1/3 innings. Sasaki's overall numbers for the year are unimpressive, as he's recorded a 3-4 record with a 4.76 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and 64 strikeouts across 62 1/3 innings (12 starts). However, the talented 24-year-old appeared to be turning a corner before this most recent hiccup. Across his last four starts leading into the Chicago game, Sasaki had allowed just four earned runs while striking out 29 across 24 1/3 innings. The hard-throwing right-hander also looks to have solved some of his control issues after a rough April that saw him walk 22 batters across 22 2/3 innings. Sasaki's inconsistency to this point in his MLB career brings some risk to his profile. Still, he clearly has talent in his arm and could offer major strikeout upside for fantasy managers if he can put it all together. Sasaki remains a worthy waiver wire gamble ahead of a potential breakout season.

Roki Sasaki Quickly Becoming a Must-Add Off the Waiver Wire

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Roki Sasaki struggled to a 6.35 ERA (7.16 FIP) with seven home runs allowed, 22 strikeouts, and 13 walks in 22 2/3 innings in his first five starts of the 2026 season. Control had been an issue for the young Japanese hurler, dating back to his rookie campaign with the Dodgers in 2025. Since the start of May, though, Sasaki has turned things around and has posted a 2.55 ERA (2.90 FIP), 38 strikeouts, and only eight walks in 35 1/3 innings across his six starts for L.A. He hasn't walked more than two batters in any of those starts, and he struck out a season-high 10 batters over seven shutout innings in a dominant showing his last time out on June 5 against the Los Angeles Angels. The 24-year-old has allowed just five runs (four earned) with 29 strikeouts and only five walks in 24 1/3 innings in his last four starts. Sasaki is going to have a much more difficult matchup on Friday night against a Chicago White Sox team that surprisingly ranks fifth in baseball with a .739 OPS. But with Sasaki showing better control in the last month-plus, fantasy managers have begun to latch onto him. He's currently rostered in just under 70% of Yahoo leagues.

Roki Sasaki Punches Out 10, is it Time to Jump on Board?

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Roki Sasaki continued to trend upward with an excellent start on Friday against the crosstown-rival Los Angeles Angels. Sasaki picked up a no-decision, but he was dynamite, throwing seven shutout innings with only two hits allowed, two walks, and a season-high 10 strikeouts to lower his season ERA to 4.03. The matchup against the last-place Halos was a friendly one, and Sasaki delivered for his best start of the 2026 season. The 24-year-old Japanese native has gone 3-3 in his second year in the big leagues with a 1.26 WHIP, 60 strikeouts, and 21 walks in 58 innings pitched over 11 starts. Sasaki came into his sophomore season with L.A. with a reputation for being wild and allowing too many walks. He struggled to a 6.35 ERA and 7.17 FIP with 13 walks in 22 2/3 innings in his first five starts of the year, but since then, he has allowed only 11 runs (10 earned) while walking eight and fanning 38 in 35 1/3 frames across six starts. With his control improving, it's time for fantasy managers to jump on board in more leagues. Sasaki has at least seven K's in three of his last four starts and has not walked more than two batters in an outing since April 12.

Roki Sasaki Attractive Off the Waiver Wire With Improved Control?

At the end of April, Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Roki Sasaki was sporting an ugly 6.35 ERA (7.16 FIP) with seven home runs allowed, 13 walks, and 22 strikeouts in 22 2/3 innings across his five starts. The 24-year-old Japanese hurler turned things around in May, though, and it all started with his improved control of the baseball. In five starts in May, Sasaki allowed 11 runs (10 earned) on 22 hits (three homers) while walking only six and striking out 28 in 28 1/3 innings. He has not walked more than two batters in a game since April 12 and is now 3-3 in his second MLB season with a 4.59 ERA (5.05 FIP), 1.35 WHIP, and 50:19 K:BB in 51 innings across his 10 starts for L.A. Home runs remain an issue, but if Sasaki can continue to build on his control gains from the last month, he'll be a much more attractive starting option for fantasy managers. Sasaki is definitely worth picking up and starting this weekend in the Freeway Series against the lowly Los Angeles Angels. In his last outing against the Halos, Sasaki gave up just one run while walking none and fanning a season-high eight in seven innings to win his second game of the year. Sasaki is rostered in just 56% of Yahoo leagues.

Roki Sasaki Emerging as Must-Add Ahead of Post-Hype Breakout?

Dodgers right-hander Roki Sasaki has faced overwhelming expectations during his tenure with Los Angeles, but recent performances suggest the talented 24-year-old may be turning a corner. Sasaki has worked at least five innings in each of his last five starts, showing improved durability and a better ability to settle into games. While his 4.93 ERA and 1.42 WHIP leave room for improvement, his elite fastball velocity and electric pitch mix continue to flash frontline upside. Sasaki remains one of the most talented arms in baseball, and his recent consistency points toward a potential breakout in the near future. Fantasy managers searching for upside should still view Sasaki as a strong waiver wire addition before another leap forward within the Dodgers rotation.

Roki Sasaki Emerging as Worthy Waiver-Wire Option After Eight-Strikeout Effort

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Roki Sasaki, who is only rostered in 34% of Yahoo leagues at the moment, should garner more attention after his best outing of the year in Sunday's 10-1 defeat over the crosstown-rival Los Angeles Angels. Sasaki won his second game of the 2026 season by limiting the struggling Halos to just one earned run on four hits while walking none and striking out a season-high eight batters in a season-high seven innings pitched to help the Dodgers sweep the Angels. It was the first time that the 24-year-old failed to walk a batter in his big-league career, which could be a turning point for the Japanese hurler. Sasaki's numbers still don't look pretty overall -- 2-3 record, 5.09 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, 39:16 K:BB in eight starts -- but his season-best performance makes him at least worth watching as a potential waiver-wire pickup going forward with both Tyler Glasnow (back) and Blake Snell (elbow) on the injured list. If Sasaki can build on his most recent performance in his next scheduled start against the Milwaukee Brewers, he will be making a case to stick in L.A's rotation long term.

Roki Sasaki Pushed Back to Monday Versus Giants

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Roki Sasaki, who was originally scheduled to start on Saturday against the Atlanta Braves, will have his next start pushed back to Monday's series opener against the division-rival San Francisco Giants, according to Jack Harris of The California Post. Lefty Blake Snell (shoulder) will be reinstated from the 15-day injured list to make his season debut on Saturday against Atlanta. If not for Tyler Glasnow (back) landing on the IL on Friday, the 24-year-old Sasaki would be at risk of being bumped from the starting rotation entirely. The Japanese hurler continues to struggle with control and consistency in his second MLB season, going 1-3 with a 5.97 ERA (6.83 FIP), a 1.67 WHIP, and 26:15 K:BB in 28 2/3 innings pitched across his six starts for the Blue in 2026. He will now be on eight days of rest against SF. Despite being unreliable so far in fantasy, Sasaki did go a season-high six innings his last time out against the Cardinals, and he'll be facing a Giants team that is dead-last in OPS (.637).

Roki Sasaki to Stick in Rotation Despite Spring Struggles

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that right-hander Roki Sasaki will remain in the starting rotation to begin the 2026 season despite his struggles on the mound this spring, according to Katie Woo of The Athletic. Sasaki had an ugly outing on Monday against the Los Angeles Angels, surrendering five runs on six walks with two hit-by-pitches in two-plus innings before being pulled without allowing a hit. It was a spring training to forget for the second-year pitcher, as he posted a 15.58 ERA with 12 strikeouts and 15 walks in 8 2/3 innings pitched. The 24-year-old Japanese hurler also struggled in 10 regular-season appearances (eight starts) in 2025, allowing 18 earned runs while walking 22 and fanning 28 in 36 1/3 innings before becoming L.A.'s closer in their World Series fun last fall. Fantasy managers should be very hesitant to use Sasaki in his first scheduled regular-season outing against the Guardians after he showed erratic fastball command, continuous arm-side misses, and out-of-sync mechanics during Cactus League play.

Roki Sasaki to be in Opening Day Starting Rotation

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed that right-hander Roki Sasaki will be in the team's Opening Day starting rotation despite his struggles in spring training, according to Jack Harris of The Los Angeles Times. Sasaki has been a roller coaster in Cactus League action this year, and it continued in his latest outing on Tuesday night against the Kansas City Royals, when he allowed three runs on four hits, four walks, and five strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings pitched. He has shown progress with his newly-added cutter, but overall, Sasaki has been underwhelming this spring. When left-hander Blake Snell (shoulder) eventually makes his 2026 season debut, Sasaki may end up back in the bullpen, where he was thriving last fall to close out the season. Struggles with command have been the biggest issue for the 24-year-old Japanese hurler, making him a boom/bust fantasy option in 2026. In 36 1/3 innings in his MLB debut in the regular season last year, Sasaki had a 4.46 ERA with 28 K's and 22 walks in 10 outings (eight starts).

Roki Sasaki Expected to Open the Season in Starting Role

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Roki Sasaki is expected to open his second year in the big leagues in 2026 as a starting pitcher, per Jack Vita of the Los Angeles Times. "I don't see a world in which Roki Sasaki doesn't [open the season] as a starter," manager Dave Roberts said. Sasaki only appeared in 10 games (eight starts) in his first big-league season in 2025 during the regular season, allowing 18 earned runs on 30 hits (six homers) while walking 22 and striking out 28 in 36 1/3 innings pitched. The 24-year-old Japanese hurler then made nine appearances in the postseason as the Dodgers' closer, giving up just one earned run while recording three saves in 10 2/3 frames. He hasn't looked great in his two Cactus League starts, allowing seven earned runs while walking five and striking out five in 3 1/3 innings. Control continues to be the biggest issue for Sasaki, who could eventually be moved back to a bullpen role in 2026 when lefty Blake Snell (shoulder) makes his season debut.
