Dodgers Re-Sign Veteran Infielder Miguel Rojas to One-Year Deal

Veteran infielder Miguel Rojas and the Los Angeles Dodgers agreed to a one-year, $5.5 million deal on Wednesday, according to Daniel Alvarez-Montes of El Extrabase. The World Series hero will spend another season in Dodger blue as a backup utility infielder. Last year, Rojas filled in as needed and slashed .262/.318/.397 with seven home runs, 35 runs, 27 RBI, five stolen bases, and a 100 wRC+ across 317 plate appearances. Once he retires, he's expected to remain in the organization and move into the player-development department. From a fantasy perspective, Rojas is only viable in the deepest of leagues or as a short-term injury replacement for your middle or corner infielders.

Miguel Rojas Plays Through Rib Injury in Game 7 World Series Victory

Los Angeles Dodgers veteran middle infielder Miguel Rojas (rib) said he felt a sharp pain in his rib area while celebrating the Game 6 win of the World Series over the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night and was unsure if he'd be available to play in Game 7 on Saturday, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN. The 36-year-old Venezuelan took several rounds of pain-killing injections and got the start again in the deciding Game 7, going 2-for-5 with the game-tying solo home run in the top of the ninth inning in the eventual 5-4 win in 11 innings to help the Dodgers win back-to-back world championships. Rojas, who had hit just 57 home runs in 4,159 career plate appearances going into the ninth inning, ended up being an unlikely hero for the Dodgers. He spent most of the regular season and playoffs as a utility infielder, hitting .262 with only seven home runs and 27 RBI in 114 games. Rojas will be an unrestricted free agent this winter.

Miguel Rojas Planning to Retire Following 2026 Season

Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Miguel Rojas said that he plans to retire after the 2026 season, per Doug McKain of Dodgers Nation. Rojas also said he is hoping to finish his career with one more season of playing for the Dodgers. The 36-year-old slashed .262/.318/.397 with seven home runs, 27 RBI, 35 runs scored, and five stolen bases across 317 plate appearances this season for Los Angeles. He's been a useful utility infielder off the bench for the Dodgers since 2023, but is currently playing out his final season under contract with the team. Given Rojas' solid production for a bench player and his defensive versatility, it seems likely he'll find a home for the 2026 season.

Miguel Rojas Day-to-Day With Hamstring Tightness

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said after the Game 2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League Division Series on Monday that veteran infielder Miguel Rojas (hamstring) is day-to-day with tightness in his hamstring, according to Cody Snavely of Dodgers Beat. Rojas made a crucial defensive play late in the game at third base and was seen grimacing as he limped to the Dodgers' dugout. He was then pinch-hit for in the seventh inning by Max Muncy, who will likely be back in the starting lineup for Game 3 in L.A. with Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola on the mound on Wednesday. Rojas, who normally serves in an infield utility role, has played in four playoff games (two starts) so far in October and has gone 3-for-6 with an RBI at the plate.

Miguel Rojas Exits Early with Jammed Finger

Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Miguel Rojas (finger) left Sunday's game against the Royals in the eighth inning after injuring his finger on a stolen base attempt in the seventh inning. After the game, Rojas said he won't need a trip to the injured list and that it was just a bad jammed finger, reports David Vassegh of SportsNet LA. The player's word isn't always the most reliable source of information, as it ultimately isn't up to them whether they play through the injury or not, but it's encouraging to see that he isn't concerned. Even if he doesn't need an IL stint, the 36-year-old could see some extended time on the bench while he recovers.

Miguel Rojas Making Cactus League Debut On Friday

Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Miguel Rojas (hernia) is making his Cactus League debut on Friday against the Chicago Cubs and is starting at third base and batting sixth in the lineup. Rojas was a bit behind the other position players at the start of camp after undergoing sports-hernia surgery in the offseason, but he's back in action now and should be good to go for the two-game series in Tokyo, Japan, on March 18 and 19 against the Cubs, barring a setback. The 35-year-old Venezuelan infielder had one of his best offensive seasons in 2024 for the Blue, slashing .283/.337/.410 with six home runs, 36 RBI, eight stolen bases and 41 runs scored in 103 games played. However, Rojas remains a glove-first player and will once again have very limited fantasy appeal as a reserve infielder for the most stacked team in baseball.

Miguel Rojas Participates In Live Batting Practice

Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Miguel Rojas (abdomen) took part in live batting practice on Wednesday. Rojas faced right-handed pitcher Roki Sasaki. The 35-year-old also participated in defensive drills during Wednesday's session. Rojas underwent sports hernia surgery during the offseason but is expected to be ready for Opening Day. Seeing him participate in live hitting drills and fielding work early in spring training is a positive sign that he will be ready for the start of the regular season. Earlier in the offseason, the Dodgers brought back the infielder on a one-year $5 million contract. Last season, Rojas held a .283/.337/.410 line with 21 doubles, six home runs, and eight stolen bases. When healthy, fantasy managers should expect Rojas to operate as a depth piece in the infield.

Miguel Rojas Expected To Be Ready For Opening Day

According to Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Miguel Rojas (abdomen) is expected to be ready for Opening Day. The 35-year-old suffered an infection due to the sports hernia surgery he underwent in the offseason. While this setback delayed his offseason program, fantasy managers should expect the veteran to be ready for Opening Day. Last season, Rojas held a .283/.337/.410 slash line with six home runs and eight stolen bases. He was an elite defender, posting a strong 12 outs above average (OAA). He also showed an excellent eye at the plate with a 13.9 percent whiff rate and a 10.1 percent strikeout rate, which were both among the highest marks. When healthy, fantasy managers should expect Rojas to operate as a depth piece in the Dodger infield and should only be targeted in deeper NL-only formats.

Dodgers Pick Up Miguel Rojas' 2025 Option

The Los Angeles Dodgers exercised shortstop Miguel Rojas' $5 million club option for the 2025 season on Saturday. Although Rojas finished the team's World Series championship season battling a groin injury, the 2024 campaign was a very successful one for the 35-year-old veteran Venezuelan infielder. Known mostly for his glove at the 6, Rojas impressed in 103 regular-season games in his second year in Hollywood with a .283/.337/.410 slash line, six home runs, 36 RBI, eight stolen bases and 41 runs scored. He will need surgery on his torn groin this offseason, but he should be recovered in time to be ready for the start of the 2025 regular season, where he'll once again serve as a solid defender for the Blue at shortstop. Fantasy managers in NL-only leagues shouldn't expect Rojas to swing the bat as well as he did in 2024, though.

Alex Vesia, Brusdar Graterol, Miguel Rojas Return To Dodgers Roster

Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitchers Alex Vesia (ribs) and Brusdar Graterol (shoulder), and infielder Miguel Rojas (hernia) are all on the team's roster for the World Series. Vesia hurt his rib cage in the NLDS and was left off the roster for the NLCS, but is ready to rock and will likely be used in high-leverage situations against lefties Juan Soto and Jazz Chisholm. Graterol (shoulder) hasn't pitched since landing on the IL in late September with right-shoulder inflammation, but has been working his way back and should be used in a high-leverage role after a dominant regular season. Rojas has already said he will need offseason surgery to repair a sports hernia, but will play through the injury and try to provide the Dodgers with stellar defense when he plays. Kevin Kiermaier, Evan Phillips (arm fatigue), and Edgardo Henriquez were removed from the World Series roster to make room for the trio.
